Its DM. How bad are these yellow tints? My screen is slightly yellow but I thought this is just the way the display is as I've seen varying screen hues on different LCD panels.
I have some of the issues on my ipad 4 but nowhere near severe enough where it happens during video playback. My serial number begins with DM also.

Sorry WilliamG, will stay on topic!

one of the two DM's I had exhibited had varying contrast.

The other one I didn't have enough time to test, starting with DM as well.

I hope by iOS 7 they fix this problem for iPad 4 users!

Yeah considering the lightning av adapter has an ARM/256mb of RAM for a 1080p workaround (that doesn't output at 1080p) I wouldn't be surprised if this dynamic contrast issue never gets addressed.

Back to iPad3 for me as well, can't wait.

iPad4 speed was nice, but since you're looking at the screen all day long, you might as well not having one with glaring issues.

Are all these issues software related then?

So it's pointless getting a replacement for any of these issues? The contrast problem, hues, IR, backlight problems?

Hues, IR, and other backlight issues are unit dependent. The fluctuating contrast specifically in this thread - isn't. Though there have been some sporadic reports of iPad 4 devices without that issue... I've yet to see one, personally.

I recently just think I solved this problem for me at least. I downloaded gplayer and ran the video as hardware decoding on my usual dark videos and it seems to fix this problem. You guys try it out and report back.

Please read the first post: We know that if you use a player that doesn't use Apple's video decoding methods, that the playback is fine. :)

Oh then I don't see what the issue is. I just wanted to say gplayer fixed this for me because before that I had avplayer and Avplayer still has the gamma issue.

Yeah, just use a video player that fixes the problem if your ipad 4 has this issue.

My Samsung Note is unwatchable during dark scenes and there is NO fix for it.There was a 144 page thread on it on another forum and the issue was never resolved.

Unfortunately for Safari use, any videos bought through iTunes etc, it's still an issue. Not to mention Plex, Air Video etc for home streaming.

'It's Playing' app can be added to the list of apps that doesn't suffer from this issue. It allows you to choose between hardware and software decoding.

True. I forgot the Apple TV has the a5 that does this.

QUOTE=StevenB14;16951257]I'm pretty sure the iPad just sends the file to the Apple TV and the ATV does the decoding etc. In that case the issue would not happen.[/QUOTE]

I checked out an ipad4 that was on display at a store. This one did not have any issue except just one time with the 2 cars, pause and hide the controllers.I could not replicate that same issue again even after 10 further attempts. It's really weird. On mine I can replicate it every time.

This problem doesn't appear consistent and the symptoms can vary in severity from one unit to the next.

I don't think all ipad4's will have this pumping contrast problem during playback of movies with dark scenes.Mine and this one in the store is fine with playback.

I would love to hear what explanation Apple have for this issue.
