So if it is an issue deemed as such by Apple, what do you suppose they will do? Refund part of the buyer's cost, give all an iPad 5?

Seriously, 99% of owners do not even know about it and Apple knows that if anyone was not happy with a device they had the opportunity to return it as always during the covered period. We know how many times that happened with this particular issue percentage wise.

I don't think Apple will do anything about this issue, unfortunately.

If they deem something an "issue", then they are taking on the responsibility of fixing it. Which would cost them a pretty penny. The other option, given that the majority of iPad users aren't storming Apple headquarters, is to simply ignore it, knowing that most who have iPad 4 issues will simply upgrade to the 5 when it comes out.

So instead of losing money, they are betting on making even more if they simply ignore the issue.

Sad, but true.

if its not reproducible, its not an issue

Well, just to start watching Stargate SG-1. I notice the issue at least 10times+ when the cast names are shown. And then 10+(can be ALOT more if it's a rather dark episode) times during the episode. And this is EVERY episode.

so it's VERY reproducible, guess it's just incompetent technicians... :/

Yeah any space-set sci-fi I can imagine would be horrible to watch on the iPad 4. :(

Unless you use a different app. I watch a lot of dark shows on RushPlayer+ (from Cydia), and have no problems whatsoever, even in a pitch-black room.

If you're not jailbroken, I imagine that there is another alternate app you could use, like AVPlayerHD or something.

AVPlayerHD does work great, but many of us stream from our home network using Plex or, AirVideo, and both of those apps are now useless with this issue. :(

I think I'm going by my own experience and that of other iPad owners I know.

Great. Why does that make your opinion any more valid than mine and all the people I know with this issue? There's a reason this thread has stayed live for five months, after all...

Did I say my opinion was somehow more valid than yours? I'm just saying what I think, no need to get wrapped up about it.

Same problem here. You can see it in the trailer of Nosferatu in iTunes, pause the trailer at about 00:06 and you can reproduce it every time you hide/show the playbutton etc.
What do you think? Will i be able to get the iPad 5 as replacement when it comes out?Because the problem exists on every iPad 4 that i saw.

(Sorry for my bad english)

Edit: I think it depends on the resolution. For example there is an Avatar trailer in 1080p(Neytiri in Love), where this function is very useful. It makes the colors more natural and the video much more enjoyable. But for videos below 720p this function makes some movies just unwatchable...

the re-released AVPlayerHD version is pretty much useless for playing MKVs with AC3 audio right? same thing with HDPlayerPro. i missed out on AVPlayerHD but i grabbed HDPlayerPro and refuse to update it b/c the update strips out AC3 audio support

does RushPlayer+ support AC3?

I hadn't heard about AVPlayerHD stripping out the support for AC3 like other players have been...

I'm not sure. I just tend to download .mkv shows and watch them, I don't worry about what type of audio or subtitles it has.

But if you really want to know, shoot Menneisyys2 a PM; he's the MR video expert and will definitely know.

Well a lot of MKV videos are encoded with the AC3 audio codec and due to lawsuits with Dolby a lot of developers have had to strip out AC3 support in fear of being shut down.

I had pretty much decided on buying a refurb 4 this month but am now concerned after reading this thread. For videos, I'd mostly be using it to watch tv shows airplayed to the apple tv. It seems like at first a lot of people couldn't see the issue but now more are saying it happens to them too. This would be my first ipad so I'm wondering if I should skip it and get another brand. i can still use the iphone to airplay tv shows.

I can clearly see it on my iPad, but only when I try to make it happen. It may be just my viewing habits, but it never comes up during normal use for me.

Well, I think I'm going to try it and see. I'd be watching videos from abc, cbs, nbc, hulu and everything would be streamed to the apple tv. I'll just make sure to check it right away and see if there's a problem. And maybe the 5 will be announced sooner rather than later and I can pick that up instead.

Well its seems safe to say that if Apple does indeed fix this it wont be until the iPad 5. Its been 6 months and no sign of any fix for us iPad 4 users. Annoying but I guess we have to live with it for now.
