Cool. So you keeping your 4 rather than selling and waiting for a 5?

I'll get Apple to take care of me as and when the 5 comes out, if I have to. I've given them so, so much information, so the fact that this hasn't been addressed is kind of mental, especially since the higher-level techs have reproduced the issue.

Seen your eye doctor lately?

I agree. I think this affects every single iPad 4. I've now tested a total of EIGHT iPad 4 devices (five in the store, and my three), and all have the same issue.

I tried it and mine's fine and almost everyone else is saying that too.

Almost everyone else is saying that too?

Which negates your insane repetition that the iPad has a major and serious design flaw. Such a serious flaw as you claim won't show up in only a few units

As for your contention that you'll get Apple to take care of you when the iPad 5 comes out (implying you'll bully them into giving you a free one cause you discovered this 'flaw'), good luck with that. Perhaps you should file that class action suit now so it will all be settled before that model comes out. I mean why should you be the only one to get a free iPad when 'everyone' has had to suffer this heinous error. Of course every person that can't demonstrate this flaw on their iPad 4 will be excluded. And there's no guarantee that the court will side with you that they owe everyone the updated model but why not give it a whirl

Yeah almost nobody is saying that, and even people who claim there's is fine turns out upon closer inspection it isn't.

Honestly consider it a blessing if you aren't observant enough to be aware of it.

That bleached home screen sucks after watching a YouTube video.

But I agree, WilliamG, I don't think you'll be free upgraded to iPad 5 when it comes out. Maybe a free accessory or something, but nothing big.

Wow you took that absolutely too far.....relax. When did William ever mention a law suit????? The fact that he got through to the engineers and they reproduced it proves the whole point. These are things that help Apple out. The dynamic contrast is great when it works! But on dark scenes like Dark Knight Rises is simply ridiculous. Proving the technique is not totally perfected. However the issue is mainly software related in relation to the A6X chip using Apple's codec since not all video apps show the issue. Its 99.99% a software or firmware problem in that case. Just because you dont notice it doesn't mean its not there.

I have the issue on mine but only if I follow a certain procedure. It has never happened during a video or a movie. There is no way in hell people will not notice the fluctuating contrast given some of the examples provided in this thread.

I believe it is a feature but for whatever reason,a batch of ipad 4's has this problem during playback.Perhaps it's a combination of software and hardware. Not all displays are made at the same factory.

I too would love an explanation from Apple but not holding my breath. It's obviously not serious enough to warrant their immediate attention.

Has that been done successfully by anyone before?

I don't intend to just "borrow" my iPad 4 until iPad 5, but since I was outside of my return period I didn't have any choice but to keep it. Apple are aware of this given my call history dating back to day one of the iPad 4 release, and assured me a working iPad one way or the other.

So I'll assume I'll have to live with this one until iPad 5 unless they fix the issue.

at least Apple listens. when or if they act on the info - that will be the question.

compared to Dell - it's hard enough just to get someone who speaks English so i'd say the fact that this issue has been escalated is good enough. chances are they will eventually roll it into another iOS 6 revision without telling anyone. they could already have a fix, but if they released an iOS 6 version as soon as each tweak and software fix came out, it would make the iPad feel like a Windows XP machine.

this forum makes me glad i ditched my iPad 4 when i had horrendous light bleed (could actually see the LEDs) and went with an iPad 3 refurb (saved $150). i experienced none of the issues with the iPad 3 that others did in the beginning - no overheating, no pink tint, no purple tint, no yellow tint, no wifi issues, etc. it's absolutely perfect. now i am kicking myself since they dropped the iPad 3 refurb in the model i got by another $50 to $629!!! lol (64GB LTE)

I called Apple today, and got some pretty disheartening news. Basically, engineering can't reproduce it, at which point they categorize the issue as "normal behavior." This is what the senior advisor informed me.

I can't even begin to express how much that bothered me, that any issue not reproducible is considered "normal behavior."

Anyway, I was then transferred to Customer Relations at my request, and after reviewing some videos of the problem, the rep I spoke to agreed that the issue we're reporting is obviously not "normal."

I sent them this video via email while on the phone:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE2Zfbz7Boc&feature=youtu.be

So it's being re-forwarded to engineering from Customer Relations, and I'll hear back shortly.

Hell, it's only been 5 months this is going on. What's another month or two?

Apologies I don't have more good news, but I'll keep you all posted.

The problem is that this issue is so inconsistent. I can't reproduce the issue through the methods you outlined on you first post but I can reproduce it in other ways.

For what it's wor, this is clearly a real and reproducible issue. That being said, it's one that almost never happens in normal usage. I can clearly see it on my own iPad 4, but only when I've gone out of my way to make it happen. This isn't a problem that affects probably 99% of users. I think it's going to be tough to get Apple to do much about it. I commend your efforts, though!

I think you're making a whole lot of assumptions, there.

unless it's a safety issue, getting Apple to even formally respond is nearly impossible. the best thing that can be done is have everyone we know with an iPad call in to complain about the issue. besides that, i'm not sure what else at this point can be done

If it wasn't for this thread,I would not even be aware of this "issue".I still haven't seen this problem in normal usage on mine.

I am thinking like you the vast majority is fine during normal using.Maybe perhaps only a small batch show this problem under normal conditions.

It is also a very inconsistent problem so it can't be purely software.

As others can attest, it IS reproducible. Under the right conditions. Since I don’t use the video app, I don’t really care and it doesn’t bother me all that much. But it is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. They charge way too much money for their products to be giving out garbage problems and then ignoring them.
