No way could I go back to such a small screen and crappy camera.

Damn 12 mp is crappy?

Steve Jobs was probably right. A phone that could be used with one hand is probably the best. Out of curiosity before placing my order I borrowed my daughters iPhone 4, it really wasn't that bad. You can type with your thumb quickly with out mistakes holding it in one hand with a superb design. Granted I only watch videos on my phone once in a while, browse and listen to music. Not a big picture person. I think the SE is going to work, only question I have is, how many more IOS updates will it be able to take? Maybe up to iOS 12?

I've always gone for the least expensive but sufficient option for my portable devices (e.g. all iPod touches until they waned and I tried an iPhone 5s).

Last year I decided to treat myself to a more luxurious 128GB iPhone 7.

It was luxurious – but in the end I returned to an SE and plan to hug it for a while.

I can totally understand someone spending $1000 if their iPhone is their primary device as well as a versatile professional tool; the day-to-day benefits would totally add up.

Well said OP, and agree completely. I've owned every new iPhone up until the 6 plus which I still own. I kinda gave up then and I'm still shocked I use a phone that will be 3 years old this month.

The lack of 128gb model is a big negative for me. Like many 64 is too little and 256 is too much. This is obviously a intentional move on Apple.

Also agree on Touch ID. My 6 plus works every time all the time. I'm sure Face ID will also work, but I don't care I prefer Touch ID.

I can afford an X and would have got that over a 8 plus but I just didn't fall in love on Tuesday.

So I'm keeping my 6 plus and see how it handles 11. If she's smooth it's staying with me, if not I will pick up a used 7 plus for half the cost of an 8 plus.

Had a 4 then a 5, then I didn't liked the bigger iPhones that came. So I stayed with 5....and then SE came. Yippee.
I'm staying with this format, have no need for an iPad mini as a phone

SE is the Steve Edition :)

From your experience is SE better than the 6S? I was just about to buy a refurbished 6S from Apple. It is 469 for the 6S vs 449 for the SE. I'm coming from a 3 year old 6+ and don't feel like I need to drop a grand a grand for features I won't use. Which iPhone would be a better upgrade to from 6+?

I've had an SE for over a year and I'm not looking to buy anything anytime soon. I just like smaller phones. I'm waiting for the either the next generation SE or when they make a smaller version of the iPhone X.

I Expect the next iPhone SE sometime in mid/late 2018. Upgraded resolution, slightly new design, Haptic home button, faster Touch ID and camera enhancements.

I gave up my 6S last year for a SE and I did not regret it. In fact I got lucky too because my SE has a TSMC. I just love that I can use it one-handed and it does the job for me. Can't wait next year I'm hoping for a desig/specs overhaul.

I almost bought a 7 today but decided in the end to go to SE. The price is just too sweet for what you get. If you can live with 32GB the SE is only $349. It's got the same chip and such from a 6S and actually is slightly quicker here and there in some cases. I wanted to keep my purchase down to around $500 or less on a phone since I am currently stuck in a contract for a google pixel which I have had nothing but hardware and software issues with.

I have had 2 warranty replacements for that thing and each one has had issues. A complete lemon of a phone model in my opinion. In the past I have had many phones including a Note 3 and an iPhone 5. Note 3 was a great phone.

So I thought I could not live without the plus size screen and honestly the first couple hrs after buying the SE I started to think I made a mistake. Everything was great with the phone but I just kept thinking I needed a bigger screen. The Apple store has a 14 day no questions asked return policy so I can still change my mind but I am starting to really like the SE.

I mean I honestly would prefer the next screen size up in the regular size 7 or 6S but the SE is growing on me very quickly. It just gets the job done in speed, quality build, call quality and price. It's a marvel that they basically made a mini 6S that performs like this. I keep asking myself is it worth it to go back to the store and play another $200+ more for a 7 or something else? So far the answer is no. It's a great little phone.

Every year for the past 5 years, whether I'm eligible for an upgrade or not, I buy the brand new iPhone. It's become kind of a personal Christmas-in-September for me. About 2 weeks before the new phones are unveiled, I jump over to an older phone so I can sell my current model. It was no different this year; I re-activated an old 5S and got my matte black 7 Plus boxed up and ready to sell. I love all of the hype beforehand, the Apple event, the pre-order, waiting on delivery, unboxing my new toy, and enjoying the "honeymoon phase" for the next two months. I live for this stuff.

Until this year. Everything was on pace to unfold like any other year. I followed along with the rumor mill and patiently awaited for the Apple event...but before I knew it, the event was over and I was left feeling completely underwhelmed. Of the lineup they announced, there is not one device that I'm yearning for.

Where should I begin? I guess I'll start with the price tag of the base model iPhone X: $1000. For that price, you can buy a MacBook! Maybe I could look past the price tag if it weren't for the ugly black notch at the top of the device, the lack of home button/Touch ID (which, in my opinion, is the most natural and efficient form of device security), and the lack of 128GB option. 64GB isn't enough for me, so I'd have to spend $1149 on 256GB. (Sidebar: this might be what aggravates me the most. It's a sales tactic that Apple has deployed for years: take away the middle-of-the-road storage option and force those buyers to either upgrade their storage or downgrade their storage. Most will choose to upgrade and spend the extra cash. Ironically, it hasn't really bothered me until this year - the year Apple priced their flagship phone at and above $1000.)

Having said all of the above, maybe I should just go for the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. Well, not the 8 Plus...I really wanted to downsize this year. Okay - so the iPhone 8! What new features will I get?? A glass back...a faster chip...a slightly nicer screen...and wireless charging. Well, I'll get wireless charging if I want to spend the extra cash on a Qi charger. I won't get portrait mode since that's still only dedicated to the Plus model phones. And, lest we forget, in order for me to get the appropriate amount of storage, looks like I'll have to drop $849 on the 256GB model.

Although, I have kind of been enjoying the use of my old iPhone 5S. Speed aside, it's a great little phone (keyword: little). Man, if they offered this with an upgraded camera and some faster hardware, I might actually consider it. ***DING, DING, DING!*** The iPhone SE. I almost forgot about the iPhone SE. A souped up iPhone 5S! Feels great in the hand, fits right in my pocket, easy to handle, and...COMES IN 128GB?! Wait, am I about to go COMPLETELY rogue???

YUP. I went rogue. As of an hour ago, I ordered a 128GB Space Grey iPhone SE. It arrives tomorrow and I'm actually quite excited about it. While most of you may think that I took a major step back, I kind of feel the opposite. The iPhone SE feels like 'ol trusty. It's the last of what was a great breed of iPhone - the last sign of Steve Jobs. It's fast enough to compete with today's standards, it embodies the ergonomic form factor, it packs a 12MP camera, has Touch ID, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. As much as I didn't want to admit it, the annoyance of not being able to charge AND be plugged into a speaker or have wired headphones in posed an issue more than I had hoped. The iPhone SE will do exactly what I need it to do...and it'll do it for $449. I'm going back to the basics for a while and I'm hoping Apple will do the same.

I think you made the right decision, i tried to convince my brother to buy iPhone 6 2 years ago but he insisted on smaller iPhones. He like the size of iphone 5 hence bought iphone SE and he still using it. My father is using the same iphone SE. Basically we use phones for calling, messaging, texting and browsing. If any phone completes this need efficiently then other things like big screen, glass body, all the shiny stuff are optional for most people. I am in the later category big screen, glass body, all the shiny stuff which are optional for most people :)

So many of us have made the switch to the SE over the last 1.5 years, and most of us can't stop going on about how good it is.

It's actually liberating in a way, as you have a lightbulb moment and realise that the SE is the device that meets your actual requirements without all the gimmicks, and you can jump out of this continuous cycle of "upgrading".

It's fast, durable, has amazing battery life, so easy and comfortable to use. You're gonna love it.

That's why apple released SE, maybe it is high demand too. I think iphone 5/5s was the last device Steve Jobs worked on. He was smart he understood people's needs that's why designed simple and intuitive product. I like bigger phones but i still has 5 and 5s don't feel like selling them.

Great thread this!! and another user switched to the SE. I just got a 128gb white / silver SE for £349, what a deal for that storage!!, its arrived today and its an amazing little device. I had a 7 and was planning upgrading to an X but the price is just crazy and I always loved this design and size plus I have my MacBook pro and ipad pro for watching films etc

The SE and the cellular 2017 9.7” iPad are a killer budget combo. Both are very snappy and have great battery life.

Although the price of the X is high, Apple still offers affordable access to the iOS experience with actually very little compromise.

My main phone is currently a Galaxy S8 but I still have my SE and it's a brilliant little phone: Ideal when I want something small and it's still fast and responsive on iOS 11

I didn't see anything in the new iPhone announcements to tempt me back to iOS for my main phone and I don't see me getting rid of my SE anytime soon either

I bought the SE when it first came out and for my uses its been a great little phone.

sadly it seems my home button is not working, It may be failing, touchid stopped working (I've since disabled it), and there's definitely an odd feel to it being depressed, like something isn't quite right.

I'm toying with the idea of the 8 and the X. The gives me a better camera, the x gives me better screen, camera and what not. I'm having trouble justifying the extra 300 for the X. Heck, I'm wondering if 700 is something
I want to pay. Maybe I'll wait until spring to see if an Se-2 comes out or pay to have my phone repaired

I've been considering going back to the smaller 4.7 inch size. I looked at the 8, but I could get a 6S much cheaper if I want to go that route.

I agree, I have a 128GB iPhone 6S, I hate the fact Apple is price gouging by dumping this storage option! And here in the UK they have ignored exchange rates and made it 1$ = £1!!!
I looked at the Note 8 the other day and it's stunning, I am still thinking about what to do as I like my Apple Watch too, I wanted a bigger screen in a small form factor.
I was looking at the 7 Plus but again it's still a rip off, they have reduced the price by £50. Hardly a bargain..

I may wait for the Note 8 price to inevitably drop...

Yeah premium pricing for 3 year old screen resolutions or for a new design with unproven security, and the ugliest screen design I've seen with that bar!

I may just upgrade my iPad Pro instead..

So you went from a ip7/+ to the SE?

Unless the smaller size was the main driving force(?)...I'm not sure why you felt the need to.

Why throw more money Apple's way at this point?

I would have stayed with whatever you have and wait to see if the SE2 comes next spring, the 2018 phones, etc.

Yep. My uses are mostly: calling, texting, FaceTime with my nieces, Instagram, Tweetbot, Facebook, fantasy football, and browsing the web. Nothing fancy - all basic stuff.

I did something similar this year - previously I've always upgraded to the best I could afford, but this year - knowing everything we did about the pricing from the rumours - I went for an SE instead. Kind of crazy how many folks have done the same as us. I still can't believe I'm getting SUPPORT in this thread instead of getting blasted. I mentioned it earlier, but I think it speaks volumes about the direction that Apple has gone. So many of their diehard fans are kind of over it and going the opposite way by purchasing a device that's been out for over a year.

I've been clinging to my 5S for a long time, and I really like the form factor. With the latest price drop on the SE, I see myself buying a 128GB silver SE this Fall. I don't like the haptic touch ID on my wife's 7, and I don't see any other compelling reason to upgrade (other than the water resistance, which would be nice to have on the SE).

Bingo. That and the price - the SE is a bargain for what you get. And again, I kind of felt like it was time to go back to the basics for a little while. The bells and whistles have added up and I'm sick of paying a premium for things I don't need/use/want.

If you can hold out 4 or 5 months, many are saying we'll get a refresh of the SE. I pulled the trigger anyway because I intend on keeping this phone as a backup anyway. This is interesting because it's something I've never been able to do before - I've always needed to sell my existing phone to front myself the cash to buy the newest one. This phone is a solid value so I feel great about hanging onto it. If they refresh the SE in the spring, I'll grab it for sure.
