Umm, not entirely true!

Newly just released phones, maybe........ My son has an S7 that has not been updated in months as far as the monthly security patches go.. The OS update itself? LOL

Correct me if I'm wrong - but yeah, I think Android's monthly updates started with the 8 and 9? (Note 8 also). Up until then yeah, updates were far and few between. I have Samsung Tablets that haven't seen an update since the day I bought them and my Note 3 got 2 updates the 2+ years I had it. Android had a bad history with updates - I think they've finally corrected that just recently though.

Um, I work for the government, and my touchID is enabled. And they do not allow androids at my agency. It isn't one of the smaller agencies.

But you are right on the blackberries. Even I wish I had mine back lol. For what I need my work phone to do, it worked brilliantly. Needless to say, I don't do anything personal on that iPhone anyway.

This is true, but we don't get to use them in the government yet as far as I know.

I work with the USACE. I wonder if it is an Army Corps of Engineers thing? Good to hear it's not all branches.

Could very well be. We don't handle classified or top secret information. We do handle PHI/PII/SSN level information though and we still get to use it. I probably just jinxed myself and it's back to a 15 character password LOL.

Not sure as I personally would not buy a Samsung if they were half price.. I'd buy a Pixel at full price long before I'd buy a Samsung..

If they've committed to monthly updates then good for them but how long will that last? Are they also committed to OS upgrades?

The only smartphone that tempted me was Blackberry's. They at least know real security. But, nah, iPhone is still the best.

It's an non issue. I can bet 95% of people don't care what version of the OS they have. As far as security patches goes I know my Note 8 gets them even on Verizon every month which Verizon is notoriously slow at updating their phones. Previously had a Note 4 which Android didn't do monthly updates at that time. People just need to stop worrying about what phone other people use and just be happy with their device

And I'll buy a Samsung phone way before a Pixel. I've owned both and OS updates isn't a good selling feature for average people. Yes I'm a geek and would like them but Meh a non factor. My Note 8 has gotten every months security updates and the S6 is rumored to get Android oreo so that should tell you at least 3 or 4 years

It has improved. At this point, as a developer, I can tell you the main problem is the low-end android market is the reason for the non-updating security and fragmentation mess. That's why I am continuing on the iOS side.

When I had samsungs, they were terrible in low signal strength areas. My blackberry kicked the crap out of it. I hope they have improved, but it was a Note 3 and it was still terrible. Anyway, I agree with you, get what you want and when you are happy stay there.

Yeah it's the low end that's the issue now. Don't get why people take an issue when somebody wants to use Android (or iOS)

No I'm not. For a fact it's been true for a while now Android phones outsell iOS devices (be it Samsung, LG or etc) so that means most people don't take showers? You can't say iOS outsells Android devices because it's 5 devices vs hundreds.

There is no way iOS outsells android. Specific iPhone models outsell specific android models several times over, but you are absolutely correct in that Android is selling way more units overall. Now if we are talking profit or individual models it is a different story.

Stop. There's your answer.

Android is the phone you play games on in college; iPhone is the phone you use when you grow up and have a career.

Oh brother... so if someone buys an Android phone as an adult they are considered immature?

Funny, I use my iPhone for business but considering all the trouble I have had with my 8 plus, I've probably lost some business over it. Well, looking on the bright side at least the iPhone gives others the impression I'm a grown up and have a career...

This is a really good point, and one of the reasons I wish MS would try again. :(

Windows phones rocked! I loved the Os and still have my trusty Lumia Icon collecting dust. Never understood why it was so hard for MS to entice app developers to it... RIP Windows phone...

Cool beans.. Get what you want, I'll get what I want and others can get what they want..

My son loves Samsungs and has an S9 on pre-order.. I'd never buy one but to each their own, he loves them. My main issue with Samsung phones are the slow to non-existent updates (maybe they've now committed to them?), the bloatware and the pile of duplicated Google services. Other than that, they are fine phones I am sure.

Which Lumia had the 22MP camera? That was legit.

You quote non existent updates yet you don't an a Samsung device or recently using internet gossip dictate your opinion? I fully understand that this is an Apple centric site and I even like iPhones. Just no fanboy and buy whatever I want which happens to be a Note 8 atm.

Maybe you missed it but my son has had Samsungs since the SII Skyrocket so I am well aware of Samsung devices. His current S7 has been replaced 4 times in a year and a half.

I get it you are trying hard to discredit someone because they don't agree with you but your going to have to do better than that, sorry....

Well... I don't think iPhone users understand exactly why we love our Androids.... now what?

The whole argument is silly these days.. Plenty of people use both or flip-flop between them often enough to where they appreciate each for what they offer.

I've recently had a Pixel 2 (non XL) and dug it but I sold it to get the X.. I was also a previous long time Sony Compact series owner. Samsung? nah, like I said earlier, I would not buy one even if they were half off... Well, maybe I would buy one and give it to my son but I'd have no interest in using it myself..

I agree but then there is some who think if you own an Android your a teenage scum or an immature adult

Oh yeah. When I joined my job it was 90% android and the Unix/Android guys loved to make fun of my iPhone. It didn't bother me and I saw it as good fun - but they really went out of their way to make fun of us 2 Apple users. So I see it as good fun but a lot of people take it too far. lol

Having spent many many years with Android it doesn't affect me personally. :)

Disagree? I don't care if you like an iPhone or Android. You owning and using an Android device and your son is 2 different things. My Note 8 has the February security patch and considering its only March 5th it's pretty recent. If you have any high end phone in the past year you'll probably get the security patches every month for the life of thr device which is probably around 3 or 4 years. ( Google stopped supporting the nexus 6 which is 3 year old device I think)

My iPhone 6 plus was replaced 5 times but what's your point?
