My Note 8 has the February security patch and considering its only March 5th it's pretty recent.

Like I said, check back in a year or so and lets see if that still holds true OR if you've been upgraded to the most recent Android OS.. My guess is going to be a big ole nope on both...

Lol cause Samsung isn't updating the 3 year old S6 to Oreo ( or the S7)

Newer versions of the OS is also a non issue for 95% of people. Only the geeks care about the latest ios or Android.

Are you now claiming they've updated the S6 already? C'mon man you are spinning wheels here trying to self justify your purchase which is cool I suppose but........

Asside from that, it's odd to be proud that a phone might get the updated OS a year or longer after the OS was released? That's good? LOL

I guess in Samsung land that's considered lightning fast OS upgrade?

Haha so only females use iPhone's and "grown men" use Androids. Got it. My company of 15,000 will only issue iPhone's for security reasons. Every situation is different, but it seems that you have a very sexist company / point of view.

I call it like I see it. How is it sexist? I didn’t say it’s what the company provides them. It’s their own personal devices. Nice try though.

I'm not claiming it. Based off whats been going around it is.

It's sexist because you said only females use iPhone's and "grown men" use Androids. It's a phone, so obviously a person's sex has nothing to do with it. That's what makes it a sexist point of view.

Considering it's a 3 year old device so what? Not like your phone won't work

The screenshot you offered as proof is from at least 3 months ago so again, are you claiming the S6 has already received it? IF not when it happens, wake me.. Even if it does eventually get updated do you really believe that's an efficient time frame?

--Nexus 5X - 3 year old phone was updated to Oreo same day the Pixel 2 was.
--iPhone 6 - 3 year old phone was updated to iOS 11 the same day the iPhone 8 was.

Samsung is proud of the fact that it takes months upon months upon months and maybe even a year or more to get their phones updated?

Oh, you have BYOD. You should have led with that. I am amazed they still use BYOD though with all the security risks. They must not allow you to have Good on them or anything...

Also, Closing? Two Customer Care reps from India claiming something is far different from Corporate saying it, and then all the Cell Providers saying they will allow it to be pushed on their networks. Either way, it is good that they are at least thinking that way. Personally Android doesn't have the greatest track record. They quit updating two models I had right quick--within a year. So glad to see improvement. Our landfills don't need additional phones.

EDITED TO ADD: I take that back, I did some googling, and it is widespread. They should be updating it.

Guess I'm a transgender since I switched between phones all the time?

HAHAHAHA! This made me laugh.

Don’t get it twisted. It’s a simple observation. You might want to read my post again. I said “majority”. Where did I say “only”? That’s why you didn’t put only females in quotes because you know I never said that. Again, nice try.

The S6 won't be getting any major OS update besides the security patches which are way more important.
Don't trust the online chat reps they have no idea what they are talking and mostly will only answer what you want to hear so you give them 5 stars.
Every iOS update brings new bugs, heat issues, battery issues, performance issues.
Every Android update brings battery improvements and performance improvements, so it's better to wait and have a fully baked OS than getting everything rushed just like Apple does.

I've had my share of flagship Android phones within weeks of their release (Motorola Droid 2, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S7 Edge), and after my brief little love affair is over, I always find myself wishing that I got the latest iPhone model that year.

The reason is simple, I don't want to tweak my phone non stop and customize it. The nicest thing about Android IMO is using Google's services integrated, but if you don't have a Nexus/Pixel device, then you're going to run into the bloat from the handset manufacturer that nerfs the functionality of Android. Sure you could flash a custom rom on it (or whatever) and go to stock, but why bother? I'd rather just get an iPhone and call it a day.

Case in point: I'm a Youtube Red subscriber (it's a great service honestly), and it runs better on my iPhone X than it did on my Galaxy S7 Edge last year. The functionality is just better... especially over bluetooth in the car (which is where I utilize the service the most, because I listen to music on Youtube that's not on Apple Music). I did Google Play Music and it just was a mess on the Galaxy S7. The tracks repeat constantly, there's no scrubbing functions, the bluetooth connectivity is spotty, etc... If you're going to buy an Android get a Pixel 2 XL.

Some of my techie friends that I went to college with do not understand why I'm so into the iPhone, but honestly for mobile I just want a simple OS with the functions that I need to use it quickly. Whenever I used Android, I would always just have apps in a grid anyway with the Google search bar on top (I wish that was integrated when I swiped left on iPhone honestly because it's a handy feature).

Reading your post I highlighted one point that I think is disingenuous today.
I recently moved from a iPhone 7+ to a Razer.
On average I would have to spend 2+ hours or more when setting up a new iPhone. Then as the device settles down I would always need to tweak this or that. Recently, with the last few OS upgrades, this can also cause additional work for linked or hand off devices. Then there is the Apple Watch if you own that...
My move to the Razer took less than an hour. I have done a couple of small changes to better streamline my workflow. The setup for my new Gear Sport watch took about 10 minutes. Far far less than my previous Apple Watch.

I think your post is more applicable to the older generations of Android devices. It is much less relevant these days. These days most users do a basic setup and just use it unless they run into problems. True for both iOS and Android.

For me, what I really did like about Apple was the inter-connectivity between my Watch, iPhone, iPad(s), and rMB. When it worked. I will say at this point, going on two months, I have far less issues with the Razer than I do with my IPP 12 G2.

JMHO YMMV.

Anyone can read your post and can see your post history. It's pretty clear and comes off as sexist. That's fine if that is how you want to portray yourself, but it certainly doesn't lend to your "grown men" comment.

If CarPlay isn't fixed by 11.3 I am selling my iPhone X. I've sent multiple reports through the beta program and not a single reply. It's a 2018 Audi, dealership has no solution. Multiple iPhones tested. Worked just fine prior to 11.0.1. I rely on navigation multiple days per week and the Audi MMI just doesn't get the job done like Google Maps and Waze can. Apple Maps is a complete joke. So I can say the same thing as the OP, most iPhone users don't understand why I now love (stock) Android. To have Android Auto w/ Google Maps and Waze work out of the box with my car system and MMI display is a dream.

I spent maybe a total of 1 hour over the past 1+ months tweaking things on the Pixel 2 XL. It's not nearly as bad as older versions of Android or bloated carrier branded Android.

It's Apple's own fault that I have been using a Pixel 2 XL alongside my iPhone in preparation for the inevitable switch to Android full time. I am realizing bit by bit how much better Android is for me overall. If they had spent more time optimizing iOS and features instead of creating poop emojis I never would have considered Android for full time use.

Cool? Os upgrades is not a must have for 95% if not more for the average Joe. For the mega geeks you have pixel or nexus devices. I knew going in with my note 8 I wouldn't get it day one but nougat still works fine. Probably get oreo in March. As far as ios updates goes who cares? It brings more bugs then fixes and still doesn't change how I use my. Phone.

What is this fascination with trying to justify using Apple or Android products to others out of the blue? I can see if someone ask you what are the top 5 reasons you like brand X?

It doesn't matter if no one else gets why you like brand X, Y, or Z. The only thing that matters, is you liking brand X, Y, or Z.

We aren't on some school playground trying to one-up each other. We are supposed to be grown adults buying products because we like and need them in our lives.

Every time there is the new versions of the top devices, at work we delve into them a bit. No so much from what the new device will do, rather how our existing apps and work flows will be affected by the device and/or OS.

I agree with your main point. I don't care about customization or widgets or app launchers. I care about performance, security, privacy, apps, ecosystem, and support. Apple won't lose that lead so they won't lose me as a customer.

Well said. So tired of hearing (and reading) on this madness called customization, widgets and app launchers. Seems they are the core of Android. I've had multiple Android phones. I would spend day long customizing and searching for the last and perfect Meteo widget. I can't tell how much time I lost to customization. But in doing so I had fun I admit it. No turning back to Android for me.

Yea and I totally get that some people really value that stuff, although I feel that it's not all that critical for a phone platform in the end. I do use iOS widgets so I obviously see value, but it doesn't need to be constantly in my face. The other aspects I mentioned are much more important to me than the customization options. One clearly outweighs the other.

Only geeks? Anybody would want to have updated software if it means making the experience better. Sometimes it’s like getting a new phone.

Updates is what drove me mad about samsung devices. You will only get the new android update quickly if you buy the flagship each year. Hardly ideal

Which is why pixel is the android device to get if you want updates.

Agreed. I look at it more so as just proper support for the device. Google is making the right moves trying to align the Pixel brand with the same type of experience as iPhone.

Yep

Rumours of a pixel 3 with edge to edge and Face ID type and a notch is likely imo
