Exactly. In the US, a 128gb 6P with Nexus Protect is $738 plus tax. A 128gb 6s Plus with AppleCare is $1078 plus tax. After tax you're talking about a $400 difference. I don't see where it's $400 the better phone. And the MacBook I have is $1299+ tax with a $183 AppleCare plan. I basically check my email and browse the Internet on it (and respond to texts from it). Fantastic laptop. Super light, fast enough, great screen. But for what I do on it, I could get the Dell Chromebook from Google for $549 plus tax for the i3 version. Again, it isn't as nice of a build and maybe can't do as much as the Mac, but it does what I need a portable laptop to do. And swapping to these two, even being that I would have to sell my Apple gear, would save me upwards of $1000 US. Again, I don't see how those Apple products are worth that much more.

Yep. Paying premium for better products is also perfectly understandable, but in Apple's case within the last couple of years the premium has been going up while at the same time the quality has gone down. That's not the most optimal development.

And at the same time, a lot of Android phones have become very comparable on the premium front, as well. So you're not comparing a cheap piece of junk to an iPhone anymore.

The iPhone and MacBooks are not for cost conscious people. I am lucky that cost is not an issue for me. I buy an iPhone at full price every two years and keep an unlimited everything plan that cost me, until recently, $80 per month. It just went up to $91 because t-mo pre-paid plans are now taxed in CA.

Last year was an anomaly since I decided to get the 6s Plus after one year of owning the regular 6. I was itching to try the bigger iPhone and I am very satisfied that I did. I will stay on the S cycle moving forward.

I do own two other Android phones (HTC One M7 and GS3) and two older iPhones (5s and 4). I am waiting to get the third old iPhone 5C from my sister in law. I keep old phones around to hand out to my students when conducting quizzes that require a smartphone.
I know many cost conscious people who own Apple products, just because they like them e.g. my Dad. He works as a CFO for a large company, and being the nature of someone in this field, he is naturally cost conscious.

I on the other hand am not so much but use an Android and iPad, and prefer my Android as for me it does things iOS still doesn't do or do well.

What I do is look at what a device and see if it fits my usage.

In many countries incl. South Africa the iPhone4S is being sold at crazy low prices by networks and retailers, its there for people who don't have a big budget, so the whole: 'iPhone isn't for cost conscious people' is not true.

We are at a point where even low end Androids match iPhones e.g. the Moto G, its fast, fluid, and gets the job done.

I laugh at the whole 'Android is only good for price' excuses as in many population dense places like India, people can get an iPhone4S for cheap, but get Androids.

You are right my wording was off. Let me rephrase it: The flagship iPhone is not for people who do not have adequate disposable income. Disposable income is the money left after paying for the necessities of life. The middle class is shrinking in US. 47% of americans live in poverty or near poverty. So it is obvious that the iPhone is becoming less and less affordable even though its price has stayed somewhat constant in the US since the iPhone 4. Is that better?

Hi,

I have an iPhone since the 3GS – since many years. After the 3GS I had every iPhone and now the 6s.
I'm really getting bored from the iOS because it is always the same and I would like to change to Android (Samsung S6) but I'm not secure of that because I don't want to regret this change.

I'm asking if someone has (or had) the same experience.

Cheers

You said that you get bored of IOS because it is always the same. I am the exact opposite of you. I like it when I get everything set up and working and there aren't a whole bunch of things to customize. The less things to customize and play around with the less chance of messing something up and affecting something else. Sometimes less is best. If it isn't broke don't fix it. But each person is different and only you can decide what works best for you. You can go try it out for 14 days and bring it back if you don't like it.

I get that, and I know what disposable income is, as I said, I have a parent who is in finance, he has drilled me with all kinds of advice since I was young and helped me create a decent investment portfolio over the past few years.

Regardless of flagship device, part of Apple's USP is that even an iPhone4S and other old devices e.g. iPhone5, 5S etc... should provide a fluid experience, so surely as Americans become more price conscious they would simply go to an Apple product that fits their budget, if they can't get a 6S or 6, if they still want an Apple device the 4S, 5 and 5S are available at good prices as the experience would still be good.

I know if I wanted an Apple product on a budget I'd get me a iPhone5S and if a tablet, I'd get an older iPad Mini.

I did note that Samsung has some nice hardware. ......The camera even takes decent pictures.
Decent. ..? If the s6 Takes decent pictures.. boy, what does that say about the rest. The s6 range take basically as good a picture as you can on a smartphone

Indeed. For quite a long time cameras on Android phones weren't quite comparable to those on the iPhones. That hasn't been the case for a while now.

Are you for real.. can you give a real world.example Where you have gone to bed, and your Android phone works and looks one way, then in the morning you turn it on and it's different.. this has never happened , not to you. Or anyone else. Why are you spreading untruths..

Flagships phones are not for those who can't afford them; whether it's an 6s or s6 or what have you. If people think all phones are created equal and a honda accord equals a IS-F let them go for it. It's not going to change anything in the universe.

This. They pretty much own most competitors incl. iPhone 6S Plus. In fact, on DXOMark, the Note 4 from 2014 is just a point behind the latest and greatest iPhone6S Plus.

My Dad owns a 6S Plus 128GB, it truly fits his usage as he is not exactly heavy. He takes the odd pic, responds to emails and IMs and has his 70s, 80s and 90s hits to listen to when he wants to relax.

I on the other hand want to attach any sort of file to my emails from a local file manager, switch memory cards, be able to view multiple app windows on one screen (e.g. view an Adobe file, while I respond to an email or do a calculation on the Calculator while drawing up a spend strategy in OneNote), even the best iPhone doesn't do these things I've become so used to since my 2013 Galaxy S4.

I'll end with this, if you do decide to go with android I'd HIGHLY suggest the 6P over anything else. I hate samsung's OS, touchwiz is extremely complicated when compared to both the Nexus line and IOS. Plus, the 6P is probably the best value currently available.
Written by someone who has. No experience.of 2015. Touchwiz.. I have a nexus 7, and a s6 edge plus. To say one has much more complicated software than the other is downright lies.. the Nexus is like ios, dull, bland. Minimal.option,... TW is basically the same, but if you hit a menu option, there will be a few more.options to do something. . Android in its purest form.is a workmanlike OS , it's TW giving it the bells and whistles that makes it shine..

Exactly!

Between 2011 to 2012 I had both a Galaxy S2 and a S3 in 2012, and loved messing with those Stock Android ROMs, and what I hated was having to find similar apps to what Samsung brought out-the-box with TW. After I got the S4 I pretty much appreciated what I got with TW and truly lost interest in Stock Android.

Lol :) I couldn't resist that one matey :)
LOL!
Wait until that Note 6 drops!

Disclaimer: If it has no MicroSD, I'm screwed and will have to look at another OEM.

I guess thats the great thing with Apple, consistency, they don't remove features.

.....oh no wait, 3.5mm jack may go. Nevermind.

Hang on a second, you cut out a whole bunch of that post and by doing so you lose some important context for the second part. The "The camera even takes decent pictures" was referring to the camera on the Nexus 6P I can't comment on the quality of pictures on Samsung phones, though the camera on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) takes such poor pictures I don't even try. I feel the Nexus 6P takes some pretty nice pictures, though I'll still only use it as a "I need to take a picture, didn't bring an actual camera so I guess I'll use this one" camera and reserve pictures I want high quality (such as on vacations) to be taken with my Canon EOS-M.

Let us be fair here, while Apple will remove the jack, it is not going to send you an iPhone box w/o either a pair of lightning earbuds or Bluetooth headphones. The iPhone will also be waterproof, not water resistant. So yes they are taking the jack out but you can still listen to tunes using a new set of earbuds and you will have a waterproof phone to shower with and use in the pool.

Hopefully they include a lightning port to 3mm jack - but knowing Apple it'll be sold separately at €29.

WRT Waterproof, the Xperia Z series, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Active models have allowed taking a dip in the pool and showering with them.

Part of the reason Sony make water tight phones is their demographic in Japan tend to user their phones for entertainment in the shower.

I doubt the iPhone will be waterproof, water resistent yes, but to save themselves I'm sure Apple will ensure to be careful with the waterproof claim. I'm betting iP7 will have the same ingress level as the Z3, Z3+ and Z5 range, which is the highest AFAIK.

We do not know for certain, but the reports are it will be waterproof. If i remember correctly, it is IP68. I will be surprised if Apple removed the jack only to make the iPhone water resistant since they can make it water resistant w/o removing the jack. There are videos and reports that the 6s is already water resistant though that was never verified by Apple.

Apple has its reasons to remove the jack and it is not only an obsession with thinness. Waterproofing and freeing up space inside the device are the two other reasons.

iP68 is what the Sony phones have had since the Z3 and what the S6 Active has. If the water resistant rumors are true for the S7 Range they to will probably be IP68. That doesn't mean waterproof.

But anyway, lets wait and see.
