I just found out about Carved a few hours ago - are they a new case maker? I’m fine with my thin Peel MagSafe case for now, but always had a fascination with wood/resin projects and I think those cases look amazing even at the steeper price.

How do you like yours? Are they good long-term?
They’re not new.. about ten year old company? I think? Lol but I always use the live edges. The one I had for my 12 pro max was my daily driver and it’s still in perfect shape. I have the one for my 14 pro max and the fit is perfect. I try other cases as I usually wait for the perfect one to come along but I always feel at “home” with my live edge :)

People should stop worrying about trends or "status symbols", and just think for themselves if they want to use something or not. You might like cases, I don't like cases, both of our opinions are valid.

100% agree with this statement! To each their own. No right or wrong answer here

If you don’t have AppleCare.. a case makes sense.

Using a case and/or screen protector when you have AppleCare seems redundant.

I don't have Applecare and I don't use cases.

Does that make sense? ;)

Plenty of my phones have gone their entire tech lives without a case and without AC+ and are still working and still in very good condition.

It's a three hour round trip for me to go to the Apple Store, not counting time at the store.

My time is worth more than the price of a case and screen protector, regardless of AppleCare.

It’s very simple. If you HAVE to work for your money to keep your living standards your are poor. If you have your money coming from your assets in form of passive income and you don’t have to work to keep your living standard you are rich. Nothing to do if you have your iPhone naked or not.

That's overly simplistic as not all living standards are equal, but I agree with the iPhone naked bit.

I forgot to mention... even when running with just a small SE, with a rubbery case, there were two times it slipped off and fell to the ground.. That's why I'm even more wary of the weightier 13 (or 14, 14 PRO etc..)

You should get yourself an Apple Watch cellular, and leave the iPhone at home when you go running.

I have a non-cellular watch and I still leave my phone at home on my long runs and trail-runs. It's nice to be disconnected for a while.

Speaking of non-durable, my Nike series 6 is absolutely scratched to death from bouldering and rock-climbing. You can feel the grooves in the glass with your fingers.

Same. I specifically don't want people interrupting me when I'm running, so the non-cellular option made perfect sense.

For what it’s worth I work for one of the major US carriers and I hear this argument all the time..” I’ve never needed insurance/case/screen protection etc etc before..” tbh thats great! but no one has a magic ball- people don’t usually plan accidents or theft just saying 🤪. Just because you haven’t needed it in the past absolutely doesn’t mean there won’t be a need for it in the future (even tho especially careful people have a better chance of nothing happening, however no one is perfect). If it’s a personal preference and one is aware or the risks associated and assumes all responsibility of what COULD happen then THATS an Acceptable response to declining any sort of coverage.

edit : with that said I do a case (more for fashion than protection) screen protector and AC+. Just because I’d rather have it than not.. personal preference of course

I have no illusions about what could happen. I've also been honest in other 'case/no case' threads here about drops. Since my first smartphone in 2009 I have dropped exactly two phones sufficiently to warrant repair/replacement.

The first was September 2015, an iPhone 6+. I dropped it getting into my car. Cracked the screen. Apple replaced the entire phone (they could not get iOS 9 installed for some reason) for the cost of the screen repair. $150, no AC+.

The second drop was my 11 Pro Max in May 2022. I shattered both the back glass and the front screen. I had AC+. $99 and Apple sent me a replacement.

Both times I was under the influence of Benadryl and was not being as careful as I normally am.

I have dropped my other phones as well, it's just never been sufficient to damage them in any way. Drops are the risk I run, which is why I have safe zones and attempt to protect my devices as much as I can.

I really don't care what anyone does, but I work in a hospital with a lot of high to very high earning people, and I have never seen a single person without a case. As fragile as iPhones are, not to be rude but, I think it's a bit asinine to use one without a case. I guess if you're never active, go outside, run with it, hike, take it to the lake, work on you feet, run around at work, etc., then it's fine, but most people I know spend a fair amount of time outside and would just constantly have a broken phone.

A case is cheap insurance. I don't have an iPhone to admire, I have it to use and for me, it's more usable with a case. It doesn't lay flat when on it's back, if you lay it face down (like I almost always do), you'll scratch the screen. It's not designed to be durable.

Back to the fashion topic....haha, never mind. That's enough of this silly topic.
Insurance is good way to phrase it. Everyone has risk tolerance… and many believe the risk is not worth the sacrifice of hiding their beautiful phone day to day.

I like going caseless, and where a case when I’m higher risk scenarios it may drop…. And then I get lazy and prefer to not have to worry about dropping it by accident at work anymore and just keep the case on all the time 😕

Case or not that's up to the person. I use a case and a screen protector simply because I tend to drop my iPhone. Why should I pay for a new phone when I could just protect it. It's a waste of money, and not ecological at all. If people hardly ever drop their phones, don't like the feeling of a case, don't like the added thickness, or whatever reason, and prefer not to have a case, that's fine, too. However, to not have a case because it's some sort of show of wealth… Well, that's just dumb!

I've never used a case or screen protector, it's always been weird that people care about the design but then slap it in a case and the protector strips the coating. I've dropped my phone on occasion but never broken one. The 14 Pros are tough, and I am glad despite so many people using cases, Apple hasn't detoured from improving on durability.

So this man and his teammates are peasants for having their iPhone's covered with something?
That's a custom phone, not a case.

I always used to go no case because I loved the design and feeling in the hand.

Then I had kids lol. Let’s just say they are not as careful as I am…

One of the reasons I never handed my kids my phone (my wife too). They always had their own toys and when they could handle it we allowed them to use an old 3GS at home. ;)

I like the appearance and design of my phone.
But I'm much more enamored with its general condition so I use a case.
BTW, after nearly two years of removing the case weekly and cleaning it and the phone, there is absolutely no damage from doing so.
No scratches, "stripped coating", nothing.
The phone looks like it did on day 1.
