I've had every version of OSX and honestly the only thing I have against BigSur that came on my M1 Air is some of the Application icons. Not a big deal as I expect someone to resurrect CandyBar or some other theming app. I'm leaving Catalina, the previously most-hated (LOL) OS version not because I dislike BigSur, but rather there's no reason to upgrade a system Im not actively using.

In a van down by the river
I don't have any productivity problems with Big Sur. It is working well for me thus far. I can't stand the login screen but, that is a minor quibble.

The user problems I dislike with Big Sur is that Apple has moved the ability to restore from a Time Machine backup, and in order to do a clean install with FileVault enabled, you have to go into Terminal and reset the password twice, along with deleting the drive twice. The former is a big deal to me. The latter is a small nuisance that I don't have to deal with very often.

I hope CCC is able to get us a bootable clone at some point.

Only problem I have with Big Sur is personal ... I dislike the MASSIVE tile bars at the top of applications. Just obnoxious how much space is used at the top of some applications.

I mean just look at that in Apple Books! Even Safari...

I apologize for the political news articles in the tabs.... Just showing the wasted space at top in Safari.

I have been fortunate (I guess?) to enjoy BigSur OS stability, especially with my EGPU. Much more so than Catalina.

Not having any new issues with Big Sur. I like it. Mail and music playlist syncing still a little wonky, but been that way for a couple of OS versions now.
Stable and relatively fast.
Long install, but I’ve come to expect that.

When comparing my M1 MBA BigSur left with my 2014 13" MBP Catalina right, both viewed at default resolution, the title bars are slightly shorter on Catalina but hardly a big difference.

Books (and when you view the list as a Grid, BigSur hides the titlebar over the list of books giving you more space)

Thanks for the info and dose of reality. Haha. I had a feeling it was mostly me. You know how it is - think something is a problem and it becomes one. Thanks for info on books!

I still would love them to be thinner. But no way would I abandon Mac OS.

The BigSur default scale seems a bit larger than Catalina's default scale and Catalina does let you scale/zoom out further so there's that.

I think that's the one thing about OS X (or whatever the hell you want to call it) that bothers me the most. When I started using Macs both were on Leopard, and updates were simple: discreet updates that were generally under 250M and usually didn't require a reboot—in fact, reboots were rather rare—and you could still use your computer during the update process. Now, we have multi-GIG updates that take up to an hour to download, another hour to install, and you can't use your computer during the process. While I do like the OS and would rather cut both my hands off rather than use Windows, one does have to wonder what the hell Apple is thinking some times.

Is it really such an issue to not update when you need to use your computer, and then just do something else while it's updating. It's not like we had full-featured smartphones to mess with on back when OS X updates were smaller. Even still I would just watch TV or do some other thing while it was happening. and back in 2007 the updates may have been smaller, but my internet was much slower so downloading updates still took a long time.

Am I the only one, but I HATE Big Sur. Glitchy and no longer support for MKV,Bootcamp & many other apps.
I hate it too - unreliable, inconvenient, drain my battery (never, but never goes to sleep). I really regret "upgrading" from Catalina. Its the first time in many years that I just hate my Mac (MBP 15" 2018).

I'm running Big Sur 11.3 beta on my 2015 11-inch Air and have had no issues so far. I can run Word or any Office 365 product without issue... and as other's have mentioned VLC player can be used for MKV files. I have yet to run into any unworkable issues using this OS...

I don't hate Big Sur...

On install on BigSur says not compatible even opening gatekeeper and install terminated. Lots of glitches on word, outlook and using bootcamp. Will revert to Catalina.
How would big sur specifically make using bootcamp glitchy? Once you're booted into windows what version of MacOS is installed on the machine is irrelevant, you're not running in MacOS at all....

Weird, I never had any issues with it.
I guess it depends on the MacBook you're running it on?

Big Sur SUCKS
I find comments like this highly amusing because they are just opinions with no facts put out by someone who happens to hate a particular OS. Whenever I read useless comments like this one word comes to mind.... "noted". At least state why you feel Big Sur sucks as compared to Catalina which you seem to prefer running on your computer. Other than stating you hate Big Sur... I get this from your posts and will continue to say noted until you can make legit comparisons between both OSs. Everyone have their preference regarding what OS they like to run on their machines, I'm just curious as to why you hate Big Sur so much to say it all in caps....

I gave Big Sur quite a bit of time to finally settle on the opinion that I really don't like it. As much as the underpinnings are solid and that there are certainly some things that are an improvement over Catalina, my final evaluation is overwhelmingly driven by two constant pains: I often stumble when trying to find a spot to drag a window and I often can't see clearly what's in the title bars since they are so washed out. A good example of the latter is that I can't see the border around the search box in Mail unless I really focus on it.

It's hard to like an OS that gives me constant pain.

I have not found it more glitchy than the usual Apple stuff. I'm never surprised when things don't work. Really low expectations leave me satisfied in the "glitch" area.

ME TOO!
12.5 GB of Bloated CRAP!

Largest OS ever released by APPLE

Windows is only 5GB

OS9 fit on a CD and was fast and snappy as Hell.

When the OS keep growing in size that spells trouble. Even for ARM Processors

10.4 Tiger was LEAN and Fast. Same with Snow Leopard.

Big Sur. BLOATED MESS.

Monterey OS Just as BIG and BLOATED Too.

SAD probably the last OS for US INTEL CHIP FANS.
