There is a direct reason why iOS is far more secure than android likely will ever be. It’s really no contest, the App Store and Apple’s security process is far more advanced and Safe guarded over the Play Store.

Wow what a ruckus.

I wanted to give this phone a fair shot and I have. The first few months I chalked it up to “getting used to something different” and I’ve also been tolerating it because I am in the upgrade program (first time for that) and to me this phone has always been temporary.

Face ID works. I never said it didn’t. What I don’t like is having to pick up the phone when I don’t want to. I’d rather leave it flat on my desk and use my finger. So because I always have to pick it up it sucks.

I used to also like unlocking the phone while taking it out of my pocket so when I did look at it it was ready. Not so anymore.

I forgot to add that the lack of a headphone jack is really stupid. I use headphones every single day at the gym. I switched to Bluetooth for that but it never fails that when I want to plug it in somewhere else I don’t have that idiotic adapter with me. Why should I be expected to carry that around??? Dumb.

Also the smaller keyboard is less forgiving and texting quickly is impossible without errors. Forget Siri—she’s the worst she’s ever been. I noticed no one has disagreed with that.

I’m know I’m not alone in my dislike and sometimes hatred for this phone but I didn’t expect to get widespread support for that here—I mean look where we are. But I did expect a few to chime in and agree that this phone is lacking. I’ve googled that opinion and there are articles out there.

My friend and I had mostly discussed it amongst ourselves in the beginning but lately she and I noticed others we know were saying the same things about it. So I posted here to see if any of you agree. I searched first but couldn’t find what I was looking for, hence a new thread.

None of what was posted as a reply has changed my mind. I can’t wait to get rid of this thing. If the larger sized X is still a pain in the ass I’ll surely get rid of it quickly.

I wasn’t expecting nor wanting to argue with any of you so replying before now was not a concern. I did find all the posts claiming this thread to be for a reaction or for attention quite hilarious tho.

If I wanted attention I would have replied to every reply. I did not start this thread with the intent to sway anyone either.

That’s exactly what I had before, a 6S Plus and I regret selling it. Every day.
If the headphone jack is a serious issue for you, then I would suggest if you intend to stay with Apple that the iPhone SE is probably the phone you should get used to.

Apple ditched the jack. You may think it's dumb. Others may agree with you. But Apple doesn't agree and they make the phone.

The jack isn't coming back no matter how much people strongly dislike Apple taking it away.

You have about as much luck in having it return as I do in having Apple remove the fugly camera bump from it's latest model iPhones. Just not going to happen.

Yeah...the 6s was the last series with a headphone jack, so the X is no worse than the 7 or 8 series in that regard. Personally the size of the X is perfect for me, but since you prefer the Plus size you probably would be happier with the 8 Plus.

You might like a iPhone X Plus for the size, but it will still have FaceID. I keep my X in a stand on my desk. That way I see texts and other notifications as they arrive, and I just look at the screen to unlock it. No need to touch the phone unless I want to respond. Maybe the next gen of dot projector for FaceID will work at more of an angle. That might resolve your FaceID flat desk or table top issue.

Not your intention, with that title?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, & respond with respect below...

I wanted to give this phone a fair shot and I have. The first few months I chalked it up to “getting used to something different” and I’ve also been tolerating it because I am in the upgrade program (first time for that) and to me this phone has always been temporary.

This phone is also temporary, as is its initial incarnation of features. It is the future of the iPhone, but its signature features will evolve, a la Touch ID, which many people 100% dismissed initially.

Face ID works. I never said it didn’t. What I don’t like is having to pick up the phone when I don’t want to. I’d rather leave it flat on my desk and use my finger. So because I always have to pick it up it sucks.

You have a desk job? Ok, it's simple - get an angled stand. It's more practical on many levels/angles. ;) You're sitting there most of the day, why not invest <$20 in an adjustable stand like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N1VDCGO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It can be adjusted for those who sit or stand at their office desk.

I've have two of them at home, one on bedside table & one on kitchen bench top. Fully recommended.

I used to also like unlocking the phone while taking it out of my pocket so when I did look at it it was ready. Not so anymore.

Are you waiting for the padlock icon to unlock? If yes, then you're slowing down the unlock process. Once you remove the phone from your pocket, swipe up before you hold it up to your face. Yes, it's still slower than Touch ID v2.0, but wasn't Touch ID v1.0 slow to begin with? At least Face ID's first incarnation's more reliable than Touch ID's was way back in the iPhone 5(?).

Face ID will get faster, via software (IOS 11.4 has apparently quickened it marginally). But with hardware progressions, the angle of detection should improve & Landscape functionality should be added so that it'll be as quick as Touch ID. We may even have in-screen Touch ID by then, giving us unlocking options.

Bare with Face ID as you did with Touch ID....it's not the end of the world, & it may not be the end of the 1st world problem of pocket unlocking, but things will improve...

Are your headphones very expensive? If so, i'd understand you no longer being able to use them conveniently.

Is audio quality important to you? If you don't mind above average, but not spectacular quality, & the Airpods fit your ears, then you won't find better Bluetooth buds to compliment your iPhone.

Don't like how the Airpods look? Well then, you've just made a form-over-function decision. Big mistake as the Airpods are a great product.

Also the smaller keyboard is less forgiving and texting quickly is impossible without errors. Forget Siri—she’s the worst she’s ever been. I noticed no one has disagreed with that.

Smaller keyboard than what? Are you coming from a Plus iPhone? If so, then the X is more focussed on non-Plus users, as the screen size is more beneficial to them. Plus sized screens are bigger, so the whole user experience is a step backwards, if you liked the Plus sized form factor/screen.

I use 2 other keyboards more than the default IOS one: G Board & Swiftkey. Give them a go - swipe-typing is a revelation & counters the irks of small touchscreen keyboards.

Siri has always been bad. It hasn't gotten worse with this phone. Google Assistant has always been better. Best we can do as iPhone users is install the Assistant App & open it before saying "Ok Google", or 3D Touch Chrome & select "Voice Search".

I’m know I’m not alone in my dislike and sometimes hatred for this phone but I didn’t expect to get widespread support for that here—I mean look where we are. But I did expect a few to chime in and agree that this phone is lacking. I’ve googled that opinion and there are articles out there.

There are many here who LOVE to see Apple fail & latch on to any negative thread, especially one with "Hate" in the title & who then shout louder than those who are happy with their Apple product. Such is the way of the web... Don't confuse fellow haters as a majority, because the internet is where they outnumber those very happy with the identical device....misery does love company & they also gather to hate on The Company, which in this case is Apple..

My friend and I had mostly discussed it amongst ourselves in the beginning but lately she and I noticed others we know were saying the same things about it. So I posted here to see if any of you agree. I searched first but couldn’t find what I was looking for, hence a new thread.

Fair enough. & it's understandable that because the people around you dislike a product, that product must be bad. But your little clique can give you a false sense of the world - views are usually shared within a close circle of friends.

Have a look at the iPhone X sales & reviews by self-confessed Android users on Youtube. They're far from labelling the X as something they hate. You'll find many even rotate it as they're daily driver.

None of what was posted as a reply has changed my mind. I can’t wait to get rid of this thing. If the larger sized X is still a pain in the ass I’ll surely get rid of it quickly.

Not sure why you expected to have your mind changed 180 degrees when you "Hate" something. Seems like your aim was to drop a hate bomb & see where it hit, by getting extreme opinions either supporting/disputing yours.

I wasn’t expecting nor wanting to argue with any of you so replying before now was not a concern. I did find all the posts claiming this thread to be for a reaction or for attention quite hilarious tho.

This is a typical response. I haven't read the thread, but i've been on Mac Rumours long enough to know when someone isn't totally legit, when it comes to discussing things maturely. Thread titles are a big giveaway...

If I wanted attention I would have replied to every reply. I did not start this thread with the intent to sway anyone either.

You knew (we all knew) a thread title like "I Hate >Apple device<" in an Apple forum would gain attention.

Anyway, i've responded. Probably a waste of my time..........let's see you prove it wasn't...

Sounds like you're trying way too hard to like this phone. Just sell the X, cover your losses, and find the right device for YOU. It's funny though, most of your gripes (lack of headphone, smaller keyboard, etc) are obvious - yet you decided to purchase anyway.

I did not start this thread with the intent to sway anyone either.

Believe me, You’re not swaying anyone even if it wasn’t your intention. There are those who own the iPhone X and it’s not very often that people are ‘swayed’ because of one person‘s experience of what they say on the Internet.

People just like to whine. OP knew the phone size so he/she can’t wack much about that.
For me and so many others, FaceID works flawlessly.
I’ve never accidentally hit any of the side buttons.
Never had the phone drop a call.

Do as Closingracer recommended. Sell ‘em and move on with your life.
:p

Since when was it Macrumours law that members of Macrumours had to be compkementary only about Apple products on Macrumours? Someone posts comments which don't put Apple on a pedestal and you pass it off as whining. This is a forum about predominantly iphones, if you can't express your opinion about iphones on here, good or bad, where can you?

The op actually makes some very valid points, in particular the screen size. The X screen nay be bigger millimetre for millimetre, but in real use, it's not. The op is right, it's just not. Yet Apple if I remember correctly touted the X as having a biggrr screen than any of its predecessors. It's like a bath tub manufacturer building a bath tub which is 15 metres in length and 15 cms in width and claiming it's the most spacious bath tub on the market. Pity no one would be able to fit in it.

I'm not going to give you a history lesson about the notch, protruding camera at the back and Face ID not being completely reliable, but combined, these problems and more make the X far from perfect for a lot of people, which in 2018, and for a thousand bucks, is simply not good enough.

In the original post OP said the iPhone X is too small. If they find the X too small the SE will be like a tic tac to them.

Everything you say was known ahead of purchase (the notch, the screen size, lack of headphone jack, etc) ... the lone exception might be the actual functioning of FaceID - but even that would have been known to the OP (and the rest of us) within the 14 day return period. Here we are 9 months after the fact, and the OP is unhappy. Suck it up, buttercup. As others have said, sell it and move on. But stop whining about something that was fully in your control nine months ago, and about which you failed to act.

Yeah. OP's got problems. I don't believe Apple makes a current iPhone he'll like. If the rumors of a bigger "X" are true later this year then there's that, but it won't have a headphone jack.

So, OP's decision is to either move to Android (or elsewhere) or stay in the past with the plus series of phones.

lol it's ridiculous at everyone jumping on you cos it 'took you 6 months' to realise you didn't like something.

Face ID will get better (i hope). I remember 1st gen Touch ID was not as fast or accurate as it is now (or was for X users). People should realise that just because something works for them, doesn't mean it works well for other people, and vice versa.

No headphone jack is a major inconvenience to some people, and not to some other people. Over time this inconvenience will diminish.

For real! Whether someone took 6 hours or 6 months to realize something, it's their own time.

It does sound like the OP got a bit of a lemon with dropped calls and other issues. Sometimes when you have a bunch of issues, you'll just pile everything together for a terrible experience.

The problem is half his problems was known since it was announced. We knew it was a bigger screen size then the plus phone but in an iPhone 8 body size . He can sell and move on

It would only take a day at the most to realize the screen isn't big enough for you personally. You should have returned it and gotten something that suited you better. Makes more sense than keeping something you "hate".

Also, all the iPhones, except the SE, have a protruding camera so the X isn't any worse in that respect.

So, instead, you are defending the OP taking 6 months to discover that a $1000+ purchase did not meet their needs, especially in light of the 14-day return policy? Who's ridiculous now?

Agree that it's the OP's time... but they just burned $1000+ because they did not discover that it didn't measure up to their standards within the 14-day return period... OP can't have it both ways.

Question.

How do you get the place you bought the phone from to accept a device you purchased six months ago?

Agreed. I gave myself about 4 months with the X before deciding to sell it and buy an 8 Plus instead. I kept reading that FaceID would learn my face and improve but it never did. I got sick and tired of what was, in all practical purposes FOR ME, an unreliable feature that negatively impacted my user experience. It's nice to be back with a phone that unlocks with a 100% success rate.

Also like the OP, I found myself hitting the side buttons a lot. I really am not sure how or why, but I took so many accidental screenshots. That was just a nuisance, not a deal breaker.
