Doesn't matter whether you are using 3d touch or home to call out tasks that's only good for 2 levels not more.

Not hundred of pages but just tens like in this forum or just a long article. It takes double the number of swipes with iPhone.

Android already have speed adjustment built in. Longer swipe will scroll farther and quicker swipe to increase speed of scroll.
And the back button has limits too, and I can’t swipe forward on Android.

Pick your poison, both platforms do things differently, and both have annoying traits / aspects.

Period.

I will probably get flogged for saying this, but diving into settings you don't use often is actually something Bixby is good at.

That would be nice.

That should be sticky....required reading before posting in the ALT section....
Both platforms have their pros and cons.....doesn't mean people have to like them...but it is what it is.....
Maybe that would help end some of the endless bickering....

Definitely. Nothing is perfect. What one person loves and considers a feature, another thinks of as an annoyance.

The biggest help though would be for people to stop defending their choices like it was their spouse.

We all have things we like and don't and we can talk about them but the conversation stops much beyond two posts about the same thing. We have iPhone people here, we have Samsung folks in here, we have stock Android people in here and everything in between. iPhone and Galaxy users are never going to convince me to come to the dark side just like I nor anyone else is going to convince them to come over to my side. We've been loosing people in here because things have gotten tedious we know you (royal) like your Note, Pixel, Galaxy, iPhone etc. because you (royal) spent good money to get one but you don't need to try to change peoples minds.

People still arguing about preferences and forcing down personal beliefs? That's like folks still complaining about phone sizes. That's so 2014!

Anyhoo, I just saw the space gray X at the Apple Store (Brea). I was 110% sure on silver but not anymore. I'm actually not impressed by either colors. Space gray also shows smudges and doesn't look like a true black. Almost like dark brown doo doo color under direct lighting.

Crap. I went back to Verizon for this X. Now I don't know anymore. I might go for the Pixel 2 XL but I love the X size and the burn-in from the Pixel scares me. Damn you, LG!

It just human nature to have opinions. I don't see any issues with defending one's point of view with plausible and debatable points and without being rude or insulting. Otherwise we are just like Siri, GA or bixby coming out with canned or predetermined responses.

I spend a month comparing the iPhone X and the Samsung Note 8 before choosing the Note 8. I had the iPhone 3G, 4, 5, 6 plus (last three years), before moving to the Note 8. Here are my reasons:

1. Note 8 has a larger screen.
2. Size wise, it's a little taller than the iPhone 6 plus I had, so the size of it does not bother me.
3. It has an SD card, the iPhone X doesn't.
4. It has headphone jack, the iPhone X doesn't.
5. Samsung screen has a higher resolution than the iPhone X's screen
6. The notch on the iPhone X bothers me. The phone is not aesthetically appealing to the eyes. The Samsung Note 8 is beautiful and symmetrical. It reminds me of the monolith from the 2001: a Space Odyssey.
7. I use the S-pen occasionally for writing quick notes and to do lists. The iPhone X doesn't have one.
8. You can customize the Note 8. You can't on the iPhone X.
9. The Note 8 retains the virtual home button. The iPhone X did away with it.
10. Granted it is located in an awkward position, the Note 8 has a finger scanner. The iPhone doesn't.
11. Note 8 has a finger scanner, an iris scanner, and a facial recognition system. The iPhone X only has face ID.
12. The Note 8 has 6GB of RAM.
13. Google Voice is well integrated into Note 8. I could, for example, unlock the phone with my voice. Google voice, in my opinion, is far more advanced than Apple's Siri. Bixby is far behind Google voice and Siri, I admit that.

All my other computer equipment ( see my signature below), are Apple brand. But for some reason I was not sold on the iPhone X. Other than face ID, it is all hype. Nothing technologically groundbreaking that would want me to stay in the iPhone ecosystem. That doesn't mean I wouldn't go back, but for now I ma happy with the Note 8.

Everything Apple Pro did a speed test between the X and N8.

Pound for pound punch for punch the N8 not only kept up with the X, it actually beat it in most instances.

This is remarkable given that the A11 bionic chip is supposed to be a big deal on the X yet lag etc is supposed to be par for the course for the N8.

Only when editing 4k vids did the X outdo the N8. But to counter that, the N8 suffers no reloading issues but the X does.

There can be no disputing now the N8 is an absolute beast of a smartphone.

I've now played with both the N8 and the X, and whilst I was getting bored of the X after 10 minutes as I painstakingly tried out all of the native apps for up to an hour, the N8 kept me enthused for hours and I could have kept going.

For me the N8 is the undisputed champ of 2017.

If Apple doesn't do some new stuff to the iphone, the Note line will leave it in its wake in years to come. Apple can no longer play the old reliable and speed cards, if EAP's video is to be believed.

Apps are getting bigger and the old advantage of Apple (compressing apps that are in RAM) is likely less and less meaningful with each passing year. The time when Apple could get away with having little RAM is over.

Haha! Wow! The Note8 did an incredible job there! Consider the fact that Samsung will only be releasing it's update this month and it's still running the August update, means fresh out the box the Note8 is a beast

Truly impressed at how it holds its own :)

I think what it shows is that 6gb of ram is actually needed these days. Any phone released with less then that will be crossed off my list from here on in.

Great objective assessment and I agree 100%. I would add that the X has an advantage in Apple ecosystem integration vs the Note8, but not vs any other iPhone. If I were going to get another iPhone now it would be the 8+, and I'd be pretty unenthused moving to it from my 6s+.

I wonder how they are gonna improve the note 8 for the note 9? hardwear wise?

The Design is near perfect if they can get dual speakers on it would be cool. This is a near perfect device right now. I can only think of speakers and camera improvements.

Yay, a new round of irellavent videos of people opening and closing applications, which essentially tests how developers may optimize their app better on Android versus iOS (or vice versa). If you are a diehard Android user, the X isn’t on your shopping list, just like the Note 8 isn’t on the shopping list for people that want iOS.

All I will say @gentleman00, is that comparing specifications and actually using a device are totally different things. I have seen the comment (and heard it on videos) that if you have used an iPhone ##, you have already used the iPhone X. That statement is just as wrong as when I hear people say that, well I used a Galaxy ## in the past, and I know I hate Touchwiz / Samsung.

There are enough differences in the X, how you interact with it, and how things like FaceID work, that make it handle and operate differently than any other iphone. Just like how Bixby, Samsung Applications and overall performance has been great on the latest Samsung devices, and incomparable to older phones from their camp.

I don’t think you chose wrong for your use case, however there are a lot more to these phones than just a list of options and specifications.

Though clearly, if you want the best on Android, you should get a Pixel 2! ( ;) ) totally kidding, just had to be “That guy”.

By the way, interesting how nobody is addressing the fact that the Samsung Note8 Iris Scanner absolutely thrashed iPhone X's FaceID multiple times in this comparison

I agree with you on it being a nearly perfect device. The other thing that I don't see anyone talking about is that I don't think Samsung has had to push out a lot of updates to fix rough edges. Apple has more and more been putting out stuff that needed several rounds of updates to get right. Look at the last round up products they have rolled out. A bit of a mess.

I agree the speakers could be improved. Low light video I find a little weak (family videos indoors at night). I'd also like to see someone tackle the MMS problem, but not sure if Samsung is in a position to do anything about it. Google really needs to put together an alliance with OEMs and carriers to break Apple's lock on this area of the business, which I think probably does more to prohibit movement from Apple to others than anything.

By the way, interesting how nobody is addressing the fact that the Samsung Note8 Iris Scanner absolutely thrashed iPhone X's FaceID multiple times in this comparison

I find the Iris Scanner is getting quicker and quicker, and since I usually put my finger on the FPS simultaneously it is a race to see which unlocks first. I also like that Iris shows you a target to help train you on why it might not have worked in the rare case that it doesn't.

I actually was fed up with Apple and still am a bit.
Not a fan of some of there software updates and then forcing certain things on that I have to turn off.
My 6s battery is not holding a charge and that’s to be expected and certain apps/software is running slow on my iPhone.
I wasn’t a fan of the X, and the 8+ is a big upgrade over my 6s but it’s not really and “upgrade” Didn’t like the fact Apple is charging for the fast charging cords even and they removed the 128gb version as well as every software update I do something weird happens in the device.
Either way, I had my mind made up on the Note 8 just due to the strange Apple antics.
Part of me wants to go for what I know with the 8+ as I know it’ll be a newer device and will work well and I already have Apple down pat...
I ordered the Note 8 and It hasn’t arrived yet but I am questioning my decision.

Well you can always return it. I would give myself the entire 14-day return period, though, to try out Android and Samsung. It is a different device with a different OS. I was a little overwhelmed the first couple of days but I really like it now. I can return to Apple later if I want (if and when they offer a more compelling alternative). The X was not the phone I wanted it to be and I balked at the pricing. Too much $$ for not enough phone (IMO), especially since I need more than 64GB. 8 Plus looks like a nice phone but not enough of an upgrade from my 6s Plus.

I completely agree with your reasons for trying out the Note 8. I didn’t find the 8 Plus to be enough of an upgrade and I don’t like the notch, screen size, or pricing structure for the X. If I had to choose a 2017 Apple device for myself, though, it would be the 8 Plus for the camera and processor. Interestingly enough, I would advise friends and family members who are on a more constrained budget to simply pick up a 7 or 7 Plus for the best value in comparison to price point.

I am afraid you may find that the 8 Plus design seems wide and dated (bezels!) after you spend some time with Note 8 and its gorgeous screen. My 6s Plus design-wise seems very dated after using Note 8 for 5 weeks. If you return to iPhone, I suspect it would be for iOS ecosystem and/or iMessage, FaceTime, etc. as these seem to be what people miss most. My only remaining reservations after trying Note 8 will be product support, updates, and reliability as time passes; I am waiting and seeing in that regard. Right now I am absolutely enjoying everything about the phone.

If Apple releases an X Plus next year without the notch and with more reasonable pricing, I might move back. It will just depend what Samsung, Google, and Apple offer for 2018.

Have you seen YouTube on the X? (Played videos on the phone?)
Seems it functions like the X still have the home button or bezels as it isn’t full screen.
All the gestures along with pricing and nothing super exciting kept me away from the X.
The 8+ has what I like but seems so much like Apple fashion and I’m not into it now. I also don’t use any of the Apple eco components.
My Note 8 will be here tomorrow hopefully I’ll enjoy it!

Your right the 8+ is like previous iPhones, except for the hdr/Dolby vision capable True Tone display, insane speakers, wireless charging, and dual lens camera. There is nothing wrong with that if it works for you.

I also just made the switch from iPhone 6S+ (2 years to the day) to a Note 8. My recommendation is to spend a several hours on YouTube watching some videos. There is so much you can do with the Note 8 that isn't obvious. You need to really spend several weeks to get comfortable I think, but I will confess that after one weekend I was sold. Part of that was how surprised and delighted I was with the Gear S3 Frontier.

My daughter got an 8 within a couple days of me getting the Note 8. Its funny that we each spent a few minutes playing with the other. We each handed it back and said "glad you like it... not for me". She loves the 8. My feeling with the 8 was basically the subject line of this thread. Her feeling with the Note 8 was I think, "someone dropped me on Mars, I want to go back". This is why if you do switch platforms, you need to allow yourself some time to adjust and get familiar with the new place. That applies I think going either direction.
