Honestly, iOS feels like antiquated trash now. It's sad because Apple squandered such impressive leads behind its greed and laziness. Not all Apple users will blindly buy something they put out just because of the branding.

The HomePod is the most laughable product they have out right now. And the AirPower gaffe? It might finally be ending with its release.

Maybe iOS 13 will actually be worth a damn and Apple might be more cognizant than we give them credit for. $ is on the prices going up, the quality going down. Apple = pay more, do less sadly.

I know I sound very harsh on Apple, but it is what is. I even said iOS 12 was a disappointing upgrade last WWDC.

As someone who used to trash iOS for being behind I think they have caught up and surpassed in many ways. Maybe not caught up, it might be more accurate in some cases to say that Android has fallen behind. Best example that comes to mind is widgets. Don't get me wrong, Android is still more advanced in most ways, but most of that doesn't affect me much on a smartphone. It affects me more on a tablet, but we all know how pathetic Google has been with supporting Android on tablets. iOS is severely behind in terms of Siri though, but I think much of that stems from Apple's push for privacy (even if it's just marketing), it's alarming the amount of privacy boxes you have to check to adequately use Google assistant.

I had every iPhone up to and including the iPhone 5 and thought that Android had surpassed them, so I switched and alternated between Flagship Samsung and Nexus/Pixel phones and was very happy. I switched back to a iPhone XS because I thought they had caught up, it's a nice phone, but it's nowhere as enjoyable or reliable as the phones I have had previously and in my opinion, they haven't caught up. I will be switching back.

Widgets on Android are leagues better then the iOS implementation. The whole point of widgets is to be able to place them where you like on your homescreens, having them all in one place makes no sense, may as well just use the quick toggles. But each to their own i guess.
I agree with this. On iOS, having them tucked away on another screen basically just made me forget to use them. With that said, I take a pretty minimalistic approach to my homescreen so all I use is the CBS Sports, Google News and calendar.

I must say I highly disagree, these days widgets on Android are terrible, just awful. I did a fairly deep dive this past week in an effort to really try and like my XL 3, entertaining thoughts of possibly considering going back to Android. All the old widgets I used to use all lost functionality, for example Google widgets don't have any scrolling within the widgets anymore such as in Google voice and Gmail and the fonts are way too huge. I used to be able to make the fonts smaller with Nova launcher by making the desktop grid smaller, but that doesn't seem to work anymore. Some apps don't even have a widget anymore at all. Another overlying issue is the vast difference in UI, graphics, titlebar size, etc that make having all these widgets close together look just awful. Most of them have sizing limitations making it difficult to place them with other widgets, resulting in a lot of wasted space and extra home screens.

I also tried to use 3rd party widget programs. Zooper is gone now, from what I understand that was pretty decent. I tried a few others, but basically you are limited to things like clock, very limited calendar, weather and such.

Having widgets all in one place makes excellent sense, but that's for myself I won't try and speak for you as much of this is personal preference. Keep in mind that essentially your widgets screen on iOS is your home screen in most ways, I'm actually surprised there isn't an option to default to it. It's just nice to be able to vertically scroll through all my widgets, nice and uniform matching in UI and readily available. There are some things missing in iOS though such as being able to scroll through messages and some Android widgets are cool like seeing a live video feed, although I haven't tested to see if these widgets still work or if they are even still available. I get that Android has that PC desktop feel to the home screens which I really do like, but the widgets have gone so far downhill in both functionality and appearance it doesn't make much sense anymore.

Have to say widgets are great to me on android. Big reason i was happy to get the S10 plus and use it over my iPhone max. Gives me all the info i need and want i want from news to sport scores to calendar to weather.

On IOS widgets was only good for quick glance sport scores...everything else i feel was pointless and it just lagged more often than not when you went down the page

Yep. Like try the CBS Sports widget. Can't find anything like that on iOS.

I use kwgt its a custom widget create like zooper and is extremely powerful and give full control over sizing etc. I also use widgets in a limited fashion, i have minimalist home screens to show off the beautiful wallpapers available.

That's strange!

I did a search within the Samsung browser on the phone and clicked on the CBS Sports App link on the results and it took me to the app on Google Play Store and I was able to install without a problem

That's very odd. Not sure what's happening there

Yes that's the other one I used, wasn't particularly impressed with it, seemed like mostly clock, calendar and stuff like that. I did look through other widgets created in kwgt that others had made but couldn't find anything more than rudimentary stuff. Plus there is definitely a learning curve to making widgets with it and I really don't have the time to learn it.

Check off another of the reasons I hesitated switching permanently to Android for my daily driver.

Readdle finally released Spark email for Android today. I know it's not for everyone but it's been my favorite email client on any platform for a long time now and leaving it behind was always a sticking point for me.

Just thought I'd share.

Just to reply to the title of this topic, I didnt officially switch to Android per se but I am dabbling for the first time in maybe 3 years?

And I will say....I love it! I am a big apple guy and own almost every single product they put out but purchased a Pixel 3a as the price was too good not to give it a test run and the OS is so much fun. So many different little quirks and notifications are fantastic and wow the open feeling of whatever I want to do (too overwhelming at times).

I then put my sim back in my XS Max and good lord it was like going from a laptop to a typewriter. It was super fast and smooth but so boring. I hope iOS 13 brings some fun stuff to the table but loving stock Android and what Google has done. Just need the right device to run it on that will work for me such as a possible Pixel 4.

Nice.

I know there is a big anti-China thing going on in this forum, but have you given the OnePlus series of devices a go? Would definitely recommend a OnePlus 6T if you want a thorough Android with Stock experience, I believe you can get good deals on them right now.

I have looked at them and I actually owned the very first One Plus with that sandpaper like back and loved it. I just really enjoy Google as my home is outfitted, I use all their apps, and just enjoy their updates and all.

On another note, Samsung displays confirmed in the 3A IFixit teardown and also a slightly weaker haptic motor as mentioned but not that much of a difference. Great to see on the displays vs LG!

Next to my mac, iPad, iPhones and Watch I‘m playing with a P20 - and I‘m amazed! Since my wife and every other uses iMessage, messaging is a mess without iMessage. My wife and me started using Telegram and I found Disa (Disa.im) which works like Messages App on iPhone, but here with SMS, Telegram and Facebook in a single App. Works Great! I hate to use multiple Messenger and to Switch everytime between the apps. Disa makes it smoother... i love the Desktop Mode of the P20, plugging in an USB-C Hub will Start a Desktop mode, Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse make the feeling great.

That Desktop Mode is everything, in the Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro it is now a Wireless Desktop Projection, although I still use the Desktop Mode cable from the Mate 10 Pro

I wonder if iOS will ever get such a feature.
