Hmmm... odd. I don't see that option on mine either now that I check.

I found a post here where someone says that option went away after they turned on two factor authentication for their iCloud account. I do have two factor on for my account so that might explain it. Do you have two factor on for iCloud?

Nothing we did earlier would have impacted this.
I do have 2-Step Authentication enabled (but I did a week ago when I set it up too).

Last week it used my iCloud login and now I can only use a separate login.

So is it more secure this way or was this supposed to happen? Very weird if this disappeared.

I think it is kind of a toss up as far as security. I guess theoretically if somebody hacked iCloud on Apple's end they cold get your password, then use that to login to your Mac... but that possibility seems very remote.

I was just searching around more on this and I see several posts from people like you where this just disappeared. So maybe a bug?

Also - I only have 2 Step Verification...I don't have the option for Two Factor Authentication.

Are those different?

Ok - so do you use a separate password or the iCloud one?

And can you link to a few other threads explaining the bug?

There are some posts on the Apple support forums I found with this search.

Check out this one I just found with the comment:

I chatted with Apple Support about this and they said iCloud password login was removed in OS X 10.11.4. It doesn't forcibly remove it from existing accounts, but if you turn it off, you can't turn it back on.

News to me, but that would explain what you are seeing.

Yes, I have always had separate passwords.

Edit: Found this blog post on the same thing. So it looks like that was removed in 10.11.4. First I heard of it and I don't see any Apple documentation on it.

According to the blog post, the option is there for new accounts setup using the setup assistant. If you really want to enable this, there is a way to make the setup assistant run again (here). Kind of a hassle though if you already setup the other account.

Since it disappeared during setup assistant I'm going to download the El Capitan Installer from the App Store.

Reset the computer and do it from the El Capitan thumb drive. Hopefully I can login the way I used to and update to the latest version of El Capitan afterwards.

I'll let you know how that goes.

That will be the same end result as if you just did Internet recovery. Both will get you the latest version (now 10.11.5).

Well that kind of sucks haha.

I guess it makes sense mine worked last week when setting it up because it was 10.11.4.

Is there any way to get it back to the way it was or am I stuck? Ha

That blog post says it still appears (at least in 10.11.4) in the setup assistant. Did you say it was not their either though? Otherwise, yeah, I think you are stuck.

I have 10.11.5 now so even when I reset the computer it's not showing in the set up assistant.

I was trying to see if there was any way to go to 10.11.4 to get it in the set up assistant.

(Btw - you solved the major issue earlier so I'm super grateful. Just thought I'd ask these questions in here instead of a new thread)

Hi guys.
I had the exact same happen to me. Boot camp crashed, lost space on my 2013 iMac. Did everything as very well guided by weaselboy, but unfortunately ended up not getting any of the disk space back... Any ideas?
It used to be 1,11 TB Fusion Drive.

command-option-r boot to Internet recovery then in the Utilities menu open Terminal and run this command to kill off the Fusion drive.

Code:
diskutil cs delete "Fusion Drive"

Then follow the steps in my earlier post here to get back the Fusion drive. Then reinstall the OS.

Of course this will wipe the drive and all your data, so backup first.

I'm pretty sure we can get you fixed up.

Is this a Fusion drive model, or just a single drive?

Assuming it is not a Fusion, try this.

Hold command-option-r at boot. When prompted select language and login to your wifi. You will see a spinning globe while the recovery utility downloads. Once that is done you will see the recovery screen. From there go to the Utilities menu and launch Terminal. Then enter the command below exactly like I have it including the quotes. That will wipe the encrypted volume. I am assuming here you left the drive at its default volume name Macintosh HD.

Code:
diskutil cs delete "Macintosh HD"

Okay... now quit Terminal and launch Disk Utility. Go to the erase tab and select the disk at the top left of the left column. Then select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and apply that format. Then quit Disk Utility and click reinstall OS X at the top and what for the ~6GB OS to download and install. That should get you back in business.
Hi i have the same problem please help

Can you tell me a little more about what happened?

What model and year Mac do you have and what have you done so far to fix the problem?

Okay... you have the wrong type of partition scheme there, so lets reformat both drives.

From where you are in recovery there open Disk Utility and first select where is says Apple SSD then go to the erase tab and set it like in my screenshot then click erase.

Then do the same thing for Apple HDD.

Once that is done, follow the steps in this post to rebuild the Fusion drive.
