Actually Apple should hire these people as QC inspectors and then maybe we would get pristine products the first time out of the box.

Of course when you produce thousands of one product, much less 10’s of thousands, there are going to be mistakes made here and there, but any way you slice and dice it going through 16 iPhone X’s or 8 iPad Pros is just obnoxious.

Yea you don’t know how obnoxious it is for me having to drive to the Apple store this many times.

I didn’t have these issues with my last Apple products. Somethings up. The aluminum is so bad it looks crimped in certain angles.

I do agree there is a fine line. I’m about to give up after this last one and wait a few months.

Here’s one of the most frustrating things you realize when you have 2 to 3 in hand and comparing them. They can make the perfect one and for the premium these devices cost in comparison the the competition they need to be.

When you have 3 laid out on a table and one exhibits the backlight bleed but doesn’t have the gray uniformity issue while the other doesn’t exhibit the backlight bleed but has the gray uniformity issue it’s annoying. That or you get one that has neither but the screen is piss yellow in comparison to the other two.

It can be made. I would be cool if manufacturers just came out and sold a and b level stock upfront. Pay a little more of a premium to get the a stock. They’ll never do that though cause it’ll shine a line on the **** they’re putting out to market

I wish I was naive and maybe I am a touch ocd but I would love to enjoy the product in the naivety that it’s perfct just like the majority of folks out there. Fact is, it just isn’t.

Would you buy a new car with a scratch on it? No right? Why should I lower my standards for a 1400 device? I’m sorry but when your aluminum is warped out the box, hows it going to be in a year??

Do you buy TVs and plug n play? I check mine for the same things. I went through 6 TVs last year until I found one that was perfect to my standards. I will do the same with the iPad or I won’t purchase one this year

The reality is most people don’t check for faults and Apple will continue to slip on their qc because of it. When the return rates are so high maybe they’ll consider improving it

New cars are nowhere near perfect. $75k vehicles have significant orange peel and swirl marks from the factory. It would take thousands of dollars of paint correction to fix. Most customers never notice. Vehicles can be damaged in shipment, even severely damaged, repaired in port, and still sold as new with no disclosure of the damage.

I assure you that Apple and the TV makers and every other company have certain QC targets they aim for. Screens will have slight variations, but they are within their standards. If you choose to bring your standards so much higher than theirs, this is what you will get.

I assure you that if you were to just take it home and *use* it you would not notice slight variations in color temperature or slight backlight bleed only visible on a test image or a slight cosmetic imperfection. Apple’s QC is very tight by overall industry standards.

I have OCD too, but Good Lord you take it to higher levels. I’m not naive, I just don’t go looking for the smallest faults. Honestly, if I were Apple or Best Buy (or where ever you are buying from) I’d put you on a “Do Not Sell To” list.

This. If you’re someone who goes out of your way to look for faults, you’re probably going to find something. With all these bending reports I have been more congnizant in looking my unfit over and it looks perfect to me. It’s flat and the screen color is uniform and good for me.

People who go through this many units seriously need to do some self-introspection and realize how ridiculous they are.

If I went through 8 (let alone 16!) units of a product without happening upon one I was happy with, I would conclude that the product is not for me/not worth my money and move on.
Same. If I buy a product and it’s defective out of the box, I exchange it. If the replacement is also defective, I return it and buy something else, or wait several months for the company to get their ish together. I don’t understand continuously exchanging. I just don’t have that kind of time.

I think it’s really easy for people to make insinuation ‘Apples quality control has gone down’, because that’s where we read the most problems with products like the iPad, on tech forums Like this. In the real world, we likely encounter people who don’t look for dead pixels, or un-uniform displays, etc. It’s a major difference between scrutinizing products in here and for those who enjoy the products in there every day lives without visiting forms like this who worry about little inconsistency.

my experience purchasing the new iPad Pro has changed that. I never had issues buying apple products around the quality control. I’m sorry but for a 1400 dollar device after taxes it better be damn near perfect.

I have been through like 8 iPad pros. 12.9.

You open one up and it’s like going through a checklist and praying you hit the lottery.

My checklist-

-screen too warm and yellow with true tone on or off in comparison to store or other models
-warped aluminum out the box
-uneven backlight around the edges
-panel uniformity
-dead pixels

I thought I finally found the perfect 12.9 checked all those boxes until I went to a site that had a solid dark gray in the middle. Boom: terrible gray uniformity

I guess when the majority of your customers don’t look for this you can get away with it but for the rest of us. Wow.
There has always been a QC lottery with iPhones and iPads. Scandalous at the price point.

So, Tuesday you’re asking how to check for dead pixels because you don’t see any, and Saturday you’ve been through “like 8 iPad pros”?

Dare I ask how you even find dead pixels on this device: the pixels are tiny. I put it on a white background and look over it haven’t found any

I think there's checking for faults, and digging until you find something. Even if that's not the case, I'd argue that after 8 iPad's, you should move on.

A few years ago I went through 2 Sony TV's, an original and replacement. Both had a similar speaker issue. So I switched to a Samsung. I spent more, but it was a better TV. Back in 2013, I went through two brand new iMacs, both had bad coil whine, so I went with a 2012 refurb and saved a bunch of cash for essentially the same computer.

This device isn't for you. Look elsewhere.

The iPad Pro's quality, in my experience, were awful. Every unit has had a warped aluminum for me, many had backlighting and uniformity issues, most of my units had a dinged spot in the SIM slot cut-out (pretty much all in the same place).

I had one where the screen creaked once, and every time I picked it up, the display would ripple in places it shouldn't be, especially when using the Apple Pencil.

People seem to have flawless devices, I'm still waiting hoping I'll luck out eventually.

One defect I will not tolerate, is creaking or any type of popping when touching the display. That’s a result of the display not seated properly with the adhesive or if there is some type of separation. I have only had it happen to an iPhone, but nor was I ever questioned why Apple Watch Why I was returning it when they actually new exactly what I was referring to.

Hmmm... Just on Saturday, you said you had decided to go for the 12.9 over the 11.

So you have returned 8 in 3 days? I call shenanigans!

Here's what happened to my brother who just bought the new 12.9. He had 4 in a row that had clearly noticeable dark areas on the screen due to uneven backlighting. He tried one more time and the 5th one has a screen that is fine and is a keeper. I've also had similar experiences when I've purchased models in the past, either with uneven backlighting or color shifting from red to green. The screen lottery is exactly that. It's great that people get a good one on the first go, but not everyone has the same experience. Poor quality should not be blamed on users and manufacturers need to be held to task IMO.

So, I'm of the mindset that one shouldn't necessarily give up. Especially when you are entrenched in the Apple ecosystem as many of us are and there really are no other alternative manufacturers to go to.

Yep, one of the iPad Pros I swapped a few days ago suddenly creaked when I lifted it up from the couch and started doing this: https://www.reddit.com/user/extrauploadsmac/comments/a2zmmw/video/?st=JP9MV7L7&sh=d499ceb0

Mine was perfect out of the box.

Show to OP and he will tell you what's wrong with it.

Dude, that sounds freaking exhausting!
