Would you buy a new car with a scratch on it? No right? Why should I lower my standards for a 1400 device? I’m sorry but when your aluminum is warped out the box, hows it going to be in a year??
Yes. Because every mass-produced new car is delivered to the buyer with more than one scratch. Sure, you would have to try hard to look for them (like you did with the iPad), but they can be found.

The thing is, not many people look that hard, nor care. If most did, and demanded "NO SCRATCH ANYWHERE!" the cost of a new car would increase markedly.

Actually Apple should hire these people as QC inspectors and then maybe we would get pristine products the first time out of the box.

QC Inspectors? So last year.
Build the quality into the process. Not assign a manual human quality check at the end.

To the OP, I have had very good quality over the years with my Apple items. Until I bought an IPP 12.9 G2.
I am now on my 4th device. :(

A few years ago I went through 2 Sony TV's, an original and replacement. Both had a similar speaker issue. So I switched to a Samsung. I spent more, but it was a better TV.
So much irony in this comment. There was a time when Sony TVs were considered tops in quality, and Samsung was a cheaper knockoff, with lower quality. Times sure have changed, right?

I'm OCD with the Apple products that I purchase. With that said, I have never experienced any issues with the new Apple devices that I have purchased over the years. In inspect them thoroughly in the store or in my home once the product is delivered.

The OP is either extremely unlucky, or they're just entirely way too picky.

OP are you going to the same Apple store fore replacement? Maybe try a different on? Bad batch maybe?

Although not sure I would go through 8 trades.....would have given up on it before then. Glad I have not had any of these issues.

I have been through like 8 iPad pros. 12.9.

You open one up and it’s like going through a checklist and praying you hit the lottery.

My checklist-

My girlfriend is perfect, but:
- She talks so damn much
- She does not like it when I go out for a drink
- She always needs to buy stuff
- She is late most of the time
- She has no idea why she should have a well-paying job
- She thinks her friends are always right.

I have been through 8 of these, but I still try to find a better one.
Maybe my approach is wrong. I don't know ...

Lol. I gave up two days ago. Purchased a 10.5 What do you know, no BLB, uniformity issues, dead pixels, or warped alum.

I can do what I want with my money - and if that's reserving until I find a unit that meets my standards so be it. The fact is, there are units out there. Just not many.

You guys can continue to eat up whatever Apple throws your way. These last pro's were crap with a branded Apple logo. Nothing more, nothing less.

I bought my last Apple product in 2012.
Oh wait ... I bought an Apple TV4k. Ok.
I'm not buying iPhones for $1000 or Laptops for $4000.

This is happening on a MacPro 3,1 from 2008 which I bought for 2800 Euro and it was the best investment ever.
Still works, 8 cores at 3 GHz. SSD's via SATA adapters.

Color is subjective. Never had an Apple product with dead pixels.

Just bought a Xs. Looks perfect to me in every way, but I guarantee some of the people here on this forum could find a problem with it. Might take a magnifying glass but all the same...

Bottom line, the title of this thread is misleading. I feel Apples' QC does a pretty good job. But again that is MY opinion.

[doublepost=1543942947][/doublepost]
OP, do you have some photographic evidence to show these issues? I’m sure many would like to take a closer look at your findings.

Apart from that, maybe another product from a competitor might suit you better. If you have tried something else already that has a dramatically better quality of production, please also do let us know!

Two points. It would take bright lights and magnifying glass to reproduce the problem for a camera, and second, going to another brand changes nothing. OCD can be very debilitating.

I used to be in the automotive repair business and specialized in European makes (BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc.). Every once in a while you would have a customer who was unpleasable. No matter what you did. They always requested an estimate no matter what you were doing to their vehicle and in the end they always argued about the final bill and were never happy with their "perceived" quality of the work. But they always came back. They would never go anywhere else. Eventually you just start giving repair estimates that were 3 or 4 times more than they would be charged anywhere else. They would eventually leave. I bet Apple wishes they had a mechanism like that they could implement at times.

You are not alone; and are being sensible in your choice. I returned my 11” and love my new perfect 10.5” as well. Apple really needs to work on their QC. ESPECIALLY with the approximately 25% price increase across the board for all of their products. We all expect MORE quality now, and have a right to. For example: I can’t imagine Apple didn’t bother assigning a couple product testers to using the new iPad exclusively with wired headphones and their new dongle; but clearly they did not. This kind of thing is just unacceptably dumb.

I was especially taken aback by the difference in experience between my 2018 iPad and the 2018 Sony TV I bought at the same time.

I had kind of written off Sony TVs as no longer being a relevant TV brand. They had gone down hill so far since the days of the glorious Trinitron XBR. But my generic name LCD TV was approaching 12 years old and needed to be replaced. I picked up a Sony 55” X900F after a bunch of research showed me Sony had vastly improved their TVs in the last few years. Now this is a consumer product about the same price as the 11” iPad Pro; so it was interesting to compare the experience for me.

My new Sony was flawless out of the box. It was well calibrated. It exceeded my expectations in every way. There were no removed features. There are actually many more features than I needed, and many really thoughtful ones I hadn’t even thought of needing (e.g. the TV remote controls my PS4 through the HDMI cable so I can watch 4K YouTube HDR without even having to pull out my PS4 controller).

When Sony has a better experience out of the box than Apple...seems like we are entering opposite land.

I’m sure Apple will get things sorted out. They have had periods like this in the past. I just hope it doesn’t cost them too much market share.

I’m sure most of the OPs was as well..

Mine was. So were the ones my family purchased.

Threads like this when customers say they have gone through 8 or more iPads is just insane.

He said he went though 6 TVs to get a perfect one as well, I would fire him as a customer if I were Apple/

It would seem plenty of people here are getting more offended that he made a lot of unit exchanges due to imperfections, rather than Apple not being able to serve him a perfect unit that’s deserving of the increased price tag and quality of the brand.

So many commenters appear so envious with this dude’s time, lol damn. While others here are justifiying the iPad Pro issues like they’re Apple Apologists, saying: ‘most customers will never notice’, only ignorant and careless people will accept these defects because they don’t know better.

I understand how this guy feels, I would want this new unit to be superior than my old-gen iPad Pro, this is a successor to it after all, and the pricing is justified.

The people on these forums get baited so easily. It's actually quite hilarious.

Up to a point you can do what you want. Places like Best Buy have implemented policies that black list people who return stuff too often. Not sure if Apple would ever do something like that.

Yeah, if it’s for malicious intent and fraud.

This guy is receiving defects, that’s something else.

It costs a store money every time a return happens, regardless of the reason so at some point it is just not worth it for the store, especially if other people don't find something defective. Don't construe that to mean I think people should settle for shoddy products.

Yes, you can absolutely do what you want with your money. You can even post about what you do with your money in this forum. But you can’t be surprised with the responses you’re getting.

What you could choose to do is to do what you want without complaining about it. Then you won’t have to defend your choices. Just sayin’.

Listen it’s fair to question my sanity over returning this product eight times. I do. The fact is that going out of my way to return it 8x not only speaks for my ocd levels but the fact that I like the product but am wishing for one with minimal defects.

The warping is extreme. After going through so many I realized the warping is a feature and anybody that doesn’t see it isn’t looking hard enough and good for them

I’ve seen this warping across several outlets, not just Apple. Melancholy has a thread on it. Same exact spots each time. Some more severe than others. Clearly something wrong with the manufacturing process. This is why I’ve settled on the 10.5 and will revisit this model in 3 months. They are in a rush to pump out as many units as possible for the holidays and qc is going by the wayside.

Apples products to me are synonymous with quality. Which makes this particular product even more baffling.

There are many viewpoints on this subject and they are all valid. I don’t feel I’m abusing the return policy when the items have defects.

I don’t see why anyone would argue against panel irregularities when the iPad is THE panel. The single thing you interact with every second of use.

I won’t accept a device that 65 inch TVs have betterpanel uniformity than a 12.9 inch form factor. I won’t accept looking at lines when viewing one dark color in the middle of the screen because the backlight behind the display is uneven.

If I get a warped backside in 3 months I will throw in the towel and live with it. It’s only ****** when you realize that other people are paying the same amount you are and getting perfect units. The aluminum issue is widespread. At least in my experience.

Once again...Where are any pics?? Claiming 8 defects on a forum without any pics is rubbish. After the third you wouldn’t start taking at least a phone pic of the defect? This is the very definition of an unsubstantiated claim.

Here are four different iPad Pros with warped aluminum bodies. Three of these are confirmed to have come out like this out of the box.

Many of my iPad Pros came with a ding where the SIM tray slot were. All of these units had serial numbers starting with DLXX.

One of my iPad Pro’s suddenly creaked when it was being picked up, causing a rippling effect any where it was touched under pressure, it would also cause rippling near the bottom of the display when the iPad it’s lifted. This was another iPad Pro just recently taken out of the box.

My first iPad Pro warped, a bump you could feel with your fingers.

In-store model with a warped aluminum body. Fortunately you can slightly see it in a normally lit environment, usually it’s only noticeable under specific lighting.

Here are a couple more, not taken by me, but by other users encountering the same issues.

There are plenty more who I’ve spoken to, but they haven’t uploaded a picture of defects online yet.

Here’s a dude with crimped space grey iPad Pro.

That same guy exchanged his iPad Pro before his return period expired, but received a unit with the same imperfection.

Here’s different user with a crimped aluminum body on his iPad, shown in a bright environment. He told me that this was his second exchange, because his first model came with a deep scratch on the aluminum. This guy also told me he has the same ding on his SIM slot cut-out like my previous units has have.

I expect light to shine uniformly on a flat sheet of aluminum, not expose this ripple-filled crimped iPad.
