Every time I upgrade to a new version of IOS, it usually ends up introducing a bunch of features I never use and slows down my phone. Since IOS 10 does everything I need, I won't be upgrading to IOS 11. This will be the first year where I don't upgrade. Will you be upgrading?

then thats ur belief and loss..

many think the earth is flat & the moon landing never happened. ull upgrade to ios 11 within a year of it launching, come back & quote this when u do so i can say i told u so.

OP you can wait till iOS 11.2 and then upgrade. Do you expect your iPhone 7 will me magically be smoother and be awesome on iOS 12?

Apps drop iOS support real quick these days. You can continue to remain forever on iOS 10 but then why do you even need an iPhone for calling and texting?

Safety/security reasons aside, I firmly believe that the 2nd iOS update for the last year's iPhone adds few good features without bogging it down. iOS 11 is just at beta 1 stage. They have 4 months to fine tune it and another 4 months for 11.1 and 11.2 updates.

So this topic is unwarranted.

I agreed 100% when I first brought an iPad 2 and updated, it made it a paperweight. $600 IN THE TOLIET. Same thing to my iPhone 4, for 9 months it ran slow and buggy it was a nightmare, and I could not afford another phone.

I learn its apples way (form of marketing way) to get us to upgrade on the constant but these devices are very expensive and aren't worth the pain and loss, its the reason I will never buy an iPad again, the phone when purchase will not be upgraded to the next ios ever, i'll upgrade to the next ios when I buy a new phone. And to those that say "oh its ok it will work itself out" is FULL OF IT. try spending $950 on a device and have it slow down drastically when you NEED IT FOR RELIABILTY

Quit defending apple when it comes to software updates because its basically throwing your phone in a pool.

Those are really old devices with very slow processors, so of course performance is gonna take a hit when there more features crammed in. The newer devices starting from the 5S handle updates much better though. The 7 will be fine for years.

IPhone 7 will be completely fine with 11. Maybe with 6 or 5s I wouldn't update but 6s and 7 have plenty of horsepower.

Right now not really feeling what iOS 11 is putting down

maybe with a jailbreak release, and assurances that battery life and performance haven't turned to crap, I will

but I wonder if iOS version support is tapering off too, with rarer JB's coming along

iOS 10 might be the king for a while for those reasons

iOS 11 definitely made me a little less excited about OLED 8 (and certainly 7s)

I'll be buying a new iPhone this fall, so I am not subject to this decision as much; however I am with you, I would never upgrade to something so different without jailbreak first being available, so that I could best adjust the features to my liking, upon upgrading.

One thing I did want to point out is that apple focused a lot on performance this year, and even though I can't say for sure, I'm fairly certain performance of iOS 11 will be solid/better than iOS 10.

I won't be upgrading straight away, but probably after thr initial release so any bugs that are found will be fixed for 11.1

iPhone 6 is so slow and about the same as iPhone 5S in iOS 11 they are the same phones, they don't support NFC, APPLE PAY, lacks barometer, VOLTE and ability to scan cards unlike iPhone 6S
iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 will NEVER get iOS 12. or if not iPhone 6 will end at iOS 11 while iPhone 5S will get iOS 12 because it has smaller screen and less pixel to push.

iOS 14 is the first update to run fail on iPhone 7.
But for iOS 11? You're fine if you have an iPhone 7 or newer (or upgrade to the iPhone 8)

iPhone 5S did not really suffer in iOS 11. It is way 10 times faster than iPhone 5 in iOS 10

Not sure where you learned this but the iPhone 6 most certainly supports VoLTE, NFC, Apple Pay, and includes a barometer. I used it all on the 6 plus I had before my 7 plus. The 5S and 6 are not the same phones in any respect.

Yet it will have the highest adoption rate than any other OS. Don't upgrade. Why make a thread? You expected more No's than Yes? Even what's the point?

You're absolutely right, they got many things wrong there. However I can't help feel the 6 was one of the weakest generational upgrades of all iPhones in terms of performance. Very small CPU performance increase, same RAM for 3rd year running, etc. And because of that, I do feel like the 5s and 6 will probably expire together.

I really think that iPhone 6 will end at iOS 11 because it has the same RAM as iPhone 5S. And iPhone 6 has bigger screen and more pixels to push, meaning it will be 1.5 times slower than the iPhone 5S.
For me iPhone 2G to iPhone 3G is BIGGER upgrade than the iPhone 5S to the iPhone 6.
iOS 11 will be the last OS update for iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPad Air 1st Gen, and iPad Mini 2.
iOS 12 will be the last OS update for iPhone 5S, iPad Mini 3 and iPod Touch 6th Gen

Come to think of it, if you have common sense of humor. Even the iPhone 5 is very very close to the iPhone 6 Performance. iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 has BOTH 1GB RAM they lack barometer, NFC and etc. and also 3d touch. Ram makes device faster to avoid straining it's processor
Look at the iPad Pro 10.5 A10X it is about 2 TIMES powerful than the A9 CHIP

Of course I will - eventually.

I gave up being an 'early adopter' years ago and usually have a seamless update when xx.2 is issued (usually around February).

The iPhone is a tool, not a way of life or some sort of hobby, just a tool to facilitate modern life, so waiting until the update bugs have been ironed out seems sensible to me.

I have to say, you make very odd and difficult to understand statements. Not sure what you mean about common sense of humor.

The iPhone 5 is not that close to iPhone 6, because the 5s stepping stone was a worthy upgrade from 5, even if the 6 was only a little improvement (if that) on the 5s. The 5 and 6 do not both have 1.3Ghz, and in any case, comparing clock rate is not how you compare CPU performance. The 6 doesn't lack barometer, NFS. Neither the 5 nor 6 have 3D touch. You're confused.

Truelaley, very very True. Even if iOS 11 make my iPhone 7 slower. i realize that i will need those advance features to satisfy my needs and wants.

Maybe, but look at the iPod Touch 4th gen and iPhone 3GS they only have 600 MHZ and it has worst specs than the iPad 1ST Gen. The iPad 1 is clocked at 1.0Ghz (400Mhz clocked higher than iPhone 3gs) they are all single core right and also 256MB RAM? But Since the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4th GEN gets iOS 6 because of less pixels to push even it has slightly worst specs. The iPad 1 even clocked at 1.0Ghz only gets iOS 5.

I will not surprised if iPhone 5S gets iOS 12 while iPhone 6 will not support iOS 12 anymore.
So the answer is the iPhone 6 Will expire after iOS 11, but iPhone 5S will still be supported up to iOS 12 while iPhone 6 will stay at iOS 11. Since it has bigger screen more strain on hardware and such.

So you're saying that you WANT your iphone to be vulerable to the latest hacks...

Not me, I treasure the security of the regularly upgraded iDevice platforms even more than it's superiour usability and month after month, I see weakness after wekness in android that only get patched when people throw away their old phones for new (but generally already vulnerable) android phones.

I'm an apple fan, but this kind of post always bugs me off. Honestly, do you know someone who had their android phones completely hacked? Not me.

Compromised account can affect Apple too. Generally, if you don't open links on spam mails or SMS, your accounts is set to 2 factor passwords and you don't click anywhere on some suspect web pages, you really have not much to worry about.

No way buddy. Either the 5s and 6 are dropped at the same time or else the 5s will be dropped before the 6. I'm willing to bet serious dollar on that :p

I upgraded my iPhone 7 TWICE and both times I had to revert back to public beta 10.3. Most things worked well but what forced me to back track was the fact that when I made a phone call, the screen that contains the speaker, dialing pad, etc icons froze and I could not use them or even end a call! Everything just froze. I could live with the other little glitches in 11, but that one was a deal breaker, espcially since sometimes it’s an emergency and I can’t play around with my phone. I just need it to work. On the upside, 11 is working well on my iPad Pro 12.9 (original, not the new one).

I probably will not update my 7 right away once the iOS 11 is officially released in the fall (will update my Mini 4 a day or two after though). I will, however, public beta test iOS 11 on my SE though.

i am still on a jailbroken ios 8 that is buttery smooth on my iphone 6....literally not missing ANY new features from 9 or 10, 11 seems to be the same way, so i am completely happy where i am at! :)

Will upgrade on day 1. Why wouldn't you? Security reasons alone should be enough to convince you over a perceived loss of performance. You won't notice a difference in performance on an IP7. An IP5 maybe.
"perceived"

Eventually an iPhone 7 will be as old as that iPhone4s
