There’s a lot of cases out there, I’m gonna get one of those instead of this pricey new material.

I like mine, but they’re overpriced considering they’re not actually made out of a premium material.
That’s another issue. Even the name ‘FineWoven’ makes one believe that the entire case is constructed from an innovative eco-friendly/sourced material when, in reality, it’s a plastic shell with a thin layer of this pretentious BS (figuratively and literally) layered on top and inside. You couldn’t make it up.

My first thought when I heard they were using basically a fine material is… this seems super unhygienic! Sanitizing and cleaning this case will be a nightmare.

Granted cleaning a leather case isn’t the easiest without damaging it but it’s definitely easier than this. If it’s holding and capturing oils and liquids, that’s a breeding ground for bacteria.

This would all be fine if not for the premium price. Make them the same as the silicon cases and people wouldn’t be nearly as disappointed.
Of course there will still be those who prefer leather, and thankfully there are plenty of third party options, but I feel the majority of complaints would die off if Apple priced these things at a point that reflected what they truly are.
Even the silicone one is overpriced for what it is imo. They start kind of melting off/getting oily with time and feel cheap or perhaps that’s just my experience.

Maybe we need a case mask?

Just left the my store and the wall of FineWoven cases and wallets were already completely destroyed with scratch tests, like 30 scratches on each one.
I was going to add the same comment. The cases that were up high on the wall and not touched looked nice, but they do feel cheap and look like garbage when scratched.

Perfectly happy with my Spigen ultra hybrid clear MagSafe case. I can see the color of my phone, I don't baby the case, it takes a beating and it doesn't look like crap after a week. It also cost me less than $20. These finewoven cases .. are terrible.

Alright, so we put our iPhones in protective cases... and then baby the heck out of the case! Because, you know, that case might get a scratch on its protective surface!
I love piling on Apple's failures, but man...your take is on point.

They are definitely going to have to replace the whole wall of display units on a daily basis. Crazy. Apple needs to reverse course on these. Imagine how they will look after a month!
So people are going into Apple Stores and intentionally scratching the back of these cases?

I find it weird that cheap Chinese junk cases and watchbands seem to outperform expensive Apple-Store-Stocked items. I'd rather pay a bit more and get something not-made-in-China but that's not an option.

Just imagine a sign in the store that says “DO NOT SCRATCH FINEWOVEN CASES!” 😂

Considering it is not a necessity I guess Apple can put whatever price they like and consumers will decide if they are willing to pay. There are plenty of other cases. I guess the leather cases also scratched and could get damaged with liquids. Haven't seen these fine woven cases in person. Have seen the leather cases and they were nice. At the end of the day the consumer decides if this is worth the price they are charging.

" it did stain when exposed to hot sauce and oil, though it was able to resist coffee. When exposed to certain foods or liquids, FineWoven case owners can expect to see the case become stained"

Apple, always looking out, has already addressed the issue in a cost effective and expeditious manner (it's even backwards compatible with the old leather cases):
