This is getting truly weird. The leather cases scratched too. All cases scratch if you set out to do it. It boggles the mind that people are going in store and deliberately scratching the cases. Why? They are cases, that’s it. As for quality well you can pay at least three times the price for vaja and find out it a few months that the premium Argentinian leather is microns thick and once it is scraped or dropped you can see the plastic underneath. But no one complains and they certainly don’t set out to deliberately expose the hard plastic shell. I think the apple community has gone collectively insane.

Do you have evidence that it's low quality (other than random people's comments) and has low durability? iFixit's report suggests it has good initial quality, just prone to scuffing. It's just being released now so how can you say how long it will last? Just because it might get scuffed up doesn't mean it somehow stops functioning as a case.

It might be overpriced and not to your taste but durability and quality are separate issues.

This doesn't mean I'll buy one of these cases. I'm not interested at the price and I'm not getting an iPhone 15 so I really don't care, I simply am not a fan of people jumping to conclusions based on such limited data.
Pretty much prone to every kind of damage so terrible product. An you final statement is an admission that its over priced and does not meet your measure of quality. Honestly.....

This would all be fine if not for the premium price. Make them the same as the silicon cases and people wouldn’t be nearly as disappointed.

This is the zen and the lesson of all Apple accessories: Apple earns (to an extent...) the premium price charged for their hardware by producing generally superior products. The same cannot be said for any of Apple's accessories. They are premium priced because they can be. A profit center on the backs of people being lazy. There is literally nothing Apple sells as a value-add / after-the-sale add-on that cannot be replaced with something of higher quality, at a lower price, from a third party.

Maybe we need a case protector.

The issue is that its almost no effort to ruin these cases.

Look at what they’re replacing though. Lots of people, including myself, liked the leather cases because they were high quality and elegant. I’m actually going case-less now because all of the options at the Apple Store would cheapen my phone. Maybe I’ll get a good quality third party leather case at some point.
Ditto on the leather. I love leather wallets, though I’ve never had a leather case.

I can speak to the quality of Bellroy’s wallets. Really outstanding in my experience. Their leather phone cases are quite popular, though I haven’t tried them myself. Some reviews of their Pixel 7 cases lead me to believe that they are not up to the same standard as their wallets, but I cannot speak to that through personal experience. All the individual case companies stand to benefit from Apple’s boneheaded decision. Hey, more power to them!

I like mine, but they’re overpriced considering they’re not actually made out of a premium material.
I also like mine. When it first arrived last week I wasn’t sure about it. But now that the phone is here and I’ve been playing with it all afternoon, think it is kinda nice. The sides are nice too. It’s still significantly better than the silicone cases imo. Luckily for everyone complaining, there are plenty of third party options to choose from.

Of course there will still be those who prefer leather, and thankfully there are plenty of third party options, but I feel the majority of complaints would die off if Apple priced these things at a point that reflected what they truly are.
Problem is, Apple's leather cases were the BEST for iPhone. I have tried only two 3rd party leather cases (highly rated), and they were bulkier than Apple's and surprisingly HEAVIER. Far heavier. I took the heavy leather case off after a week and purchased an Apple leather again, and, wow. Very light and strong.

Leather scratches as well but you can polish blemishes out and they add up to a nice patina, not just scratches plastics.

I think the Apple leather case also was a thin laminate of leather on mostly a plastic housing, or did I get that wrong? Which is why it was light and rigid at the same time.

Wasn’t there doom and gloom all over this forum a few years back about MagSafe leaving *shudders* indentations *shudders* on the leather cases?

People complain too much. These cases look fine. Plus they are in line with Apple’s green goals. Factory farming for leather is not only bad for the environment, it’s unethical. So kudos to Apple for finally making the switch off of leather.

So I get sauce on the case and when the phone goes in my pocket, I get sauce in my pocket... and on my hands... and I have to look at that until I fork out $66 (with tax) for another case.

Exactly. The leather cases were plastic with a thin layer of animal skin.

Great they moved on, but they should have developed a premium faux leather with all the benefits of leather without the … well… the dead animal.

I'm sorry but I think you are missing two big points here...

1) leather cases absolutely scratch but unless they really get CUT the minor scratches that look bad initially can be buffed out with finger rubbing in a few seconds or just by waiting for natural use for a few days. The scratches just disappear, at least all but the truly worst (like dropping leather to concrete and cutting the leather etc.) What these initial tests show is a scratch that LOOKS like a leather case scratches but then never buffs out. That is very different.

2) leather can be stained with natural hand oils, food etc. but in general you can usually get out the mark if you clean the leather right away and the natural build up these marks creates the natural patina that leather is known, and loved for. this is cloth and it stains very differently... and apparently because of the fabrics tight nature it doesn't clean particularly well either so a momentary mistep with some ketchup on a table or something will result in something unsightly... forever.

look, I am giving it a try but these reports make me feel like these won't be my forever cases this generation. here is my wife's and my new iPhones today in fine woven, the purple is fairly accurate in this photo but the brown in real life is darker and more rich in color... photo was taken by my old iPhone 14 Pro.

I find it weird that cheap Chinese junk cases and watchbands seem to outperform expensive Apple-Store-Stocked items. I'd rather pay a bit more and get something not-made-in-China but that's not an option.

Soon: Made in India!

Alright, so we put our iPhones in protective cases... and then baby the heck out of the case! Because, you know, that case might get a scratch on its protective surface!
That's stupid. You put a case over the FineWomen case. Is this your first time here?
