Yeah, that letter was very well done. I only wish that if I had been you that I could've found the restraint within me to compose a letter like that. I guess if that doesn't get you anything that the only resort left is to get nasty.

I found something regarding those dots that you had on your display

Thanks, eva01 - I did an open firmware reset and SMU reset and it fixed that problem - I'm only dealing with sleep issues at this point - well that and the fact that I just realized that my clear wind baffle would not close all the way because the primary CPU intake fans won't go in all the way (but working) because they did not fully install the new radiator trim - and of course I can't get it to snap in and I have to haul this thing to Apple again tomorrow....

I'm so over this...

This approach worked for me...

I wrote a similar letter to Apple Customer Service last year with a cc to Steve Jobs

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/137720/

and within an hour of the email had Apple Customer Relations calling me at home to make things right, with a number of follow-up calls "on behalf of Steve Jobs" until the new computer arrived and everything was satisfactory. They even called again 1-2 months later just to check how the new PB was doing.

Good luck, iGary!

very well written letter. years in customer service. this would be a letter that i would take action on. the rant, yell, swear people/letters/calls can go to hell.

state the problem, state the facts dealing with resolution, state your desired outcome. hope it all works out.

I always start out by being nice and that usually works. Sometimes though you have to intimidate people to get anything done, but then again, sometimes this just makes matters worse. I don't start being an ass until its a last resort and I am absolutely certain I am not getting any help with whatever problems I am having, and I am certain that I have nothing to lose.:)

And I always hate being an ass, but sometimes I reach the point where I can't take anymore. I always feel horrible later...:p

It seems (for some reason) to have settled down quite a bit, but I am taking it into the Apple Store today, because the back FireWire I/O is loose, and the front radiator cover was not fully installed, which makes it impossible to fully mount the primary cooling fans (but they work). This is in addition to the fact that they forgot to install the plasctic rivet on the top of the primary cooling core cover as well, which I had them fix with the logic board installation.

I'm going to demand that they document the work they do, even if they have to do it in front of me.

Thanks for all the positive vibes, though, folks.

Positive? I wasn't aware that "going postal" was positive?

Good luck though, you deserve a new computer (or two) for all the **** you went through with this one.

Yeah...I took it in to the Apple Store and the guy wouldn't even look at me when I smiled at him (you know, just a nice greeting). Before I could say anything, he said "you know at this point it has to be the RAM."

I said "Uh, can I say what I am here for first?"

"Oh."

"The trim piece on the front of the coling radiator was put on incorrectly, can someone fix that for me?"

"Oh, OK."

No "gee sorry we missed the rivet on the processor install, and now this."

I'm convinced that Apple just teaches people to say no, regardless. Asshats.

I'm just tired of being treated like ****. I don't know why this is bothering me so much, but it really is. At the end of the day, it's just a computer.

Maybe it read the email too - "uh oh! steve's on the case!" :p

:D

Well it is not yet 9 there yet, so we'll see what happens today. I stopped expecting anything after yesterday, so anything would be a bonus.

Wow. I would have been fighting the urge to hit him just about then. Especially after you spent *how much time* checking out each stick of ram?

Why I'll Love a Mac (from Apple's Web Site):

How much time have you spent troubleshooting your PC? Imagine a computer designed by people who hate to waste time as much as you do. Where all the hardware and software just works, and works well together.

To take your mind off these issues, would you be up to telling us how you make some of your 3D images? I checked out your site and it looks fantastic. No need to give us any secrets but a little description would be nice ...

Thanks - actually Cooknn here got me involved in that and has been a great help. He's the real pro there, I'm just a beginner.

There are some great tutorials and trial software that you can download at http://www.kekus.com. :D

I use the 360Precision head, which you can find (with tutorials) here.

Enjoy.

The proper term is South Asian.

Best wishes on a resolution. They've got to feel stupid for being such jerks.

Update:

Well, the machine has slept and woken up from sleep for two days now - it looks like none of the PCI slots on the NEW logic board like my FireWire or USB cards.

I plugged in my FireWire CF Reader and it wouldn't sleep automagically, I unplugged it and no problems...so great I have useless PCI slots now, but you now Apple's thoughts on PCI cards - so I'm out of luck there.

The only problem I am currently experiencing is that when playing back a DVD, and sometime only with a black square (for testing) on the screen, the darkest areas have red pixels dancing all over, mainly on the right side. Now I know it isn't the display, because I had the PB plugged in yesterday, and I know it isn't my video card, because this is the third that ATI has replaced for the same issues, but the stock video card will rarely exhibit the same problems - problem is the stock video card struggles to run Aperture.

Meanwhile, It's been a week today, and still no answer from "engineering." I guess I wait to hear from them, and hopefully someone from customer relations (my letter) to figure out what they will do, if anything. I'm still pursuing this from a customer service view at this point (which doesn't require much effort, since no one returns my e-mails or phone calls).

*shrug*
