Arix, now that you have mastered reading and writing files to the Touch via USB, is it possible to write an app that allows you to manipulate files via USB? Just like a file manager, or something simple like iBrickr. This would make it easier for people with wireless issues and those that found command-line SSH sessions too much trouble.
It'd be a really great utility to have.

I second, this would be really great. I don't always have a wifi network, so being able to manipulate files via USB as well would be nice.

You need to have your iPod's IP address. You can find that in your iPod's wifi setting.

I apologize for being unclear in my previous post. I have indeed used my iTouch´s IP address (found in the wifi settings as you describe).
What I typed in Terminal was: "SSH -l root [the IP address of my iTouch, found in the wifi settings]".

By the way my iTouch´s IP address is 10.0.1.200

Dumb Question...

Is chmod only needed for the apple-made iPhone apps?

iJailbreaker (It really is fantastic!!) doesn't seem to install it, so I'm unable to chmod when i log in on terminal

Thanks in advance guys.

sorry about that but I was viewing this in the mobile version of macrumors through my iTouch and things within the square bracket were not there for some reasons. Anyway, I don't have an answer for your question. Maybe someone else here might... Otherwise just wait for a little while until AriX got the file transfer over USB thing worked out.

AriX, I have a question please.
I have searched everwhere. Since the installer update this morning my calander fix is gone and no editing capabilities anymore. Before the update all was good. Would you have any advice on this? Thank you in advance

Sorry guys for the three posts. I posted from my ipod touch today for the first time. Had some trouble at first and changed the viewing options and then I couln't do anything so I logged on with my phone changed the preferences again and then went back to my touch. The only explination I have for it posting three times was that I was logged in on my comp, my phone and my touch at the same time. I dunno. Anyway sorry for the repeated posts. Changed now.

Worked like a charm

I've been watching this forum closely for several days, sure that a fully automated version would be available which also installed the iphone apps. I'm glad I did because ijailbreak process could not have been simpler. Thank you so much AriX for all your time and inspired tinkering and to the people here who contribute and often risk a little to gain a lot. You all have helped to make my ipod Touch experience go from something that often puts a smile on my face to fastly becoming my new best buddy who conveniently fits in my front pocket. :)

BTW I used my Dual 1.8 G5 PowerPC to jailbreak my 16gb ipod touch. It was painless and a beautiful thing. Thanks again!

I'd also like to know why the only app the wonderful iJailbreak doesn't install is the one we most want... :(

So, everything went well with the Jailbreak, but when I installed summerboard through installer, not only did my icons go to the top of the screen, which i fixed, but the installer icon disappeared. How do I get it back?

Just a few things:

There needs to be a check in the software so it can tell if the Safari trick worked, the Safari thing failed many times on me but the jailbreaking process continued anyway even after giving an error (it should halt on an error and stay that way, the last thing you want to do is to brick your ipod).

Also, to those having issues with summerboard, DO NOT install the one that was included in installer.app. You must download the latest summerboard version for it to work properly on your 1.1.1 iPod.

Because of the above flaw (no check to make sure the safari thing worked) I won't be using or recommending iJailBreak. touchFree does have this check so it prevents you from bricking your iPod.

I understand you couldn't foresee every problem, however, with a little more planning and time you could have had these features implemented. Just my 2 cents.

-click yes, and your ipod with be restored to its factory settings.

Help with iJailbreak

I have installed iJailbreak twice onto my ipod. While I am able to install several other applications, I can't get the modify calendar to work. I know the file needs to be installed and is tweaks, but the file is not there.

Any direction from here I would appreciate it.

Just do this:

Download the file at:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=83SWYZVK

I used Transmit to open my Touch

Opened Applications

Replaced Mobilecal with the above download.

Went to "GET INFO"

Changed ALL to 755

Restarted my Touch and the Fun began.

Okay. This also has not worked. At this point I've spent two days trying to get this feature to work. Anyone email me at dubliner1@yahoo.com and help me get this working, $20 through paypal is yours.... or IM @ dubliner1 (yahoo)

Frustrated!

How about this. With Transmit open applications on the Touch you select Mobilecal. Go to the the Mac menu and select Get Info. Below the box that shows 755 are two buttons - Hit the one on the left. That will set the permissions for everything in the app to 755.

I think I might just wait until the next version brings an easy fix for ical. Knowing me I'll mess my ipod up again if I start trying to do stuff like this

For all of those that have been taking more than 5 minutes to get the first restart message...

I browsed to the jailbreak.toc2rta.com after 5 minutes then opened iTunes. This forced the message to appear!?

You browsed to that site using the desktop or the ipod?
Thanks!

I can't be certain it is even necessary but...

Wait 5 minutes then browse on iPhone to the site. Then open iTunes (be sure to quit iTunes after you are asked to restart phone)
