Is there some manual around of how to do this? I assume I click on jailbreak icon. Can I do this from the folder on the desktop? Do I need the ipod plugged in yet?

plugin your ipod, close itunes, view the jailbreak .tif, open up the ijailbreak app then follow the on screen instructions.

iJailbreak Video

Viccles, search the forums for iJailbreak, and there is a video that will show you how to do it. Essentially, move the entire folder to Applications, then navigate to the website that is at the beginning of the video (on your iPod), Safari will crash, then plug in the ipod. Open the iJailbreak application, and follow the instructions. I watched the video first just to be sure of what I am doing, but the 3rd version work flawlessly for me. There shouldn't be any problems. The video just made me feel a little better, not that it will do anything to the iPod that you can't undo.

I have now jailbroken! Is there anything else i need to do? Apparently I should change a password but I have no idea how. Anyone care to explain it step by step :D or is it not necessary

AriX, you're the MAN!
BTW heard the "shoutout" on Buzz Out Loud - NICE!

Just a small suggestion: the "password" issue is a very big thing, and most of us don't know jack about hacking. We click, and iJailbreak does!

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a box come up on the (computer) screen saying your jailbreak is complete - now for your own protection, enter a new password here___ and then your software would automatically go in and change the password.

Thanks again for liberating my iPod...I scared the living daylights out of my cat with one giant WOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOO once I got my "native" email working on Touch hehehehe.

For now I'm in it for the iPhone apps...the ones they SHOULD HAVE GIVEN TO US IN THE FIRST FRICKIN PLACE.

You know, if they just gave us those apps, I think half of the hacking wouldn't be happening!

Jobs has said he's going to allow 3rd party apps on the Touch, so why not give everyone a taste of what's to come by officially granting Touch users the iPhone apps? you would think that'd be a nice way to start.

Thanks a million AriX

don't you have to change something like ssh to always on and some port to like 776 or something?

No...

I am getting the sh: line 1: ./iphuc: No such file or directory (127) error also. Multiple retry attempts, restarts, resetting iPod Touch, removing and installing with new iJailbreak directory, etc. No luck.

This error confuses me a lot, considering I've removed all lines that say "./iphuc" from the code. Are you sure you're using the most recent version?

So you install iPhone apps with or without the touch connected to the computer?

OK, I want to make this REALLY clear: The installing of the iPhone apps to existing jailbreaks is not very well written. It requires you to use Wi-Fi. However, when you jailbreak now, it asks you if you want to install the iPhone apps along with the jailbreak. If you do that, it installs via the cord connected to the iPod.

Hey AriX,
This is great stuff you put out. iJailbreak .2 worked great for me last night. I wen to do the iPhone apps tonight with .3 and some work fine and other apps don't. Namely maps, mail, stock go to a blank screen for a few seconds then return to main. Any suggestions?:)

As I said before, the iPhone apps installation after jailbreak can be kind of buggy, so I'd recommend restoring and jailbreaking again, and installing the iPhone apps that way.

Hey AriX,

Thanks so much for iJailbreak, it has worked great for me both times (.2 and .3)! Really amazing app! Just one question, does downloading the iPhone apps fix the adding calender issue? Just wondering if I still need the tweak from Installer.app?

Thanks again!

snverhallen

It does not fix the calendar issue, you'll have to use the Installer.app fix :)

Can anyone post screenshots of the .3 jailbreak?
AriX - Do you plan on posting a youtube video just as you did for .2 ?
A video where you jailbreak a factory fresh ipodd touch with 0.3 would be awesome!!!
Thanks a million for all your hard work.

I never posted a YouTube video; that was someone else's. However, what they show is basically the exact same as what you do in this release.

I have now jailbroken! Is there anything else i need to do? Apparently I should change a password but I have no idea how. Anyone care to explain it step by step :D or is it not necessary

It's not necessary, but to do it, install Term-vt100 and BSD Subsystem and go into Term-vt100. Type passwd, and it'll prompt you for the password. Type it, and even if it doesn't show up as letters your password is being typed.

As soon as I click Jailbreak I get the following error:

sh: line 1: cd: /Applications/iJailBreak: No such file or directory (1)

can anyone give me advice on what i'm doing wrong?

Perhaps move your iJailBreak folder into your Applications folder so that it can find the directory? It's pretty obvious that it's looking for Applications/iJailBreak

Yeah I had it in my applications, I moved onto my MacBook which has leopard installed and everything seems to be going fine now, confusing to say the least.

Quick question, should I turn the auto off thing off, if so can I do it while it's jailbreaking?

that's not a bad idea

just a quick question. after i'm jailbroken the touch using ijailbreak, is it possible to get rid of one of the applications it has put on. i don't want the stock app. but can't work out how to get rid of it. sorry if this is bleedingly obvious, and yes i searched but didn't find.

restore your ipod then go into the resources folder of ijailbreak and find the iphone folder. remove the stocks app and redo the jailbreak.
should work.

iJailbreak .3

Everything is working fine now. iJailbreak .2 didn't play to well with .3. So I restored iPod and then used only .3 version. Summerboard was another story and another thread. Thanx:)

error msg

here is a screen shot of the msg i receive after crashing safari and selecting to install jailbreak. happens after snowbird bundle mounts on my desktop, then it pops that up.

then jailbreak just waits there, does nothing.

Hi all,

I have successfully run the iJailbreak v0.3, or at least that is the message I get after completing all steps, but there is no springboard on my iTouch and iTunes still indicates that I only have 300Mb capacity. I have looked at the informative YouTube video and my iJailbreak behaves identically. I have tried several times, on freshly restored iTouch, with the same result.

Any ideas? Is it my slow USB connection? It takes forever to perform the Jailbreak (>20 min).

It doesn't change anything :)

Install BSD Subsystem and then MobileFinder via Installer.app (in that order!) and use MobileFinder to delete Stocks.app. Restart, and you should be good :)

You have already attempted a jailbreak... Restore and do it again.

The startup script doesn't seem to be running on the iPod... SSH in, do /bin/csh, then do /temp/install.sh. That should take care of it. If that doesn't work, restore and try again.

this program sounds great, but the one thing i would like to know before i do it is could apple brick my ipod with the next update?

also, i just saw that you can't run iJailbrake on a PPC. is this true? i have a G4, so this means i can't run it?

I can't seem to find Term-vt10 whats it under?

It's possible, just don't install the update and you should be fine... Eventually the hackers will come out with a solution for the updated firmware.
