I'm having serious buyers remorse. I clicked on this thread thinking it was posted by a person. After one post, I've discovered that it was posted by a troll. :(

Oh dear, and it looks like said troll is -1 ing all the posts that point it out.

Busted, mate. Joined May 2011, and your first post is garbage. Back to hiding under your bridge.

As for all those who say they bought a Mac years ago and would never go back, well I think that is a closed mind attitude as well. Anyone who has used W7 could not say in all honesty that it is anything other than a very good OS.

That sounds pretty closed minded to me.

Windows 7 is definitely an improvement over previous iterations, but it's still Windows and reflects Microsoft's OS design philosophy. It's intrusive, bloated, and impedes the user.

In the absence of OS X, would I use it? Maybe. It's a toss up between that and the various (and improving) Linux offerings.

But thankfully that's not the world we live in. :D

I think you guys maybe being somewhat hard on this poster.

I have an iMac - 2009 C2D 21.5" model. After owning it for two years now given a choice I still prefer my Windows 7 PC. We have the iMac and the W7 Quadcore PC side by side in our home/office. The wife nearly always makes a grab for the iMac whilst I nearly always go for W7.

What don't I like? - well I don't like the glossy screen/mirror and I'm not overly enamoured with OS X. I can't deny the design of the iMac is a thing of beauty but if were talking beauty what attracts a person to one human being and not another?

Sometimes you just know, even straight away that something isn't for you, no shame in that. Two years on and I'm still waiting for that light bulb moment.

If the op had said I tried the iMac for a week to ten days and decided against it, I'd say fair play. You can't truly understand a new operating system in that time, but in truth you only have two weeks to decide, before it would cost you money.
But after less than a day!? No one can make an informed decision in that time. And your point about windows seven, yes it is a very good operating system. Yes it is boot camped on my iMac. No I'll not be moving back to pc's anytime soon. I like W7, I like Snow Leopard a lot more.

Whoa what happened in here. Yikes. I'm not a troll. I have just been experiencing some problems. Like not being able to software update. The font size is gonna take some use too. The mouse is gonna take some getting use too. The programs that I'm use too not being available. It's gonna be a learning curve, but I'm gonna keep it. I didn't mean to offend anybody, or cause any trouble. I'm sorry.

LOL. Welcome back :)

Being unable to software update would be a big deal. You might want to tell us which one so that someone here can help you out.

The font size can be adjusted. I'm sure someone can help you out with that.

The mouse (I assume it is the magic mouse) is not the most popular item. People have some strong feelings about it. I am not sure yet whether I will buy one or not. If it really gets to you, any bluetooth mouse can take its place.

You can run Windows on "bootcamp" if you need to use those programs. Tell us the names and we can help you find some Mac equivalents.

No offense taken (by me at least). I was just looking for more specifics. I am still interested in the specs on your iMac :)

haha we're not offended, we just like to know why. sure there's a learning curve… but that should have been expected. you've got 2 weeks from the buy date to return it ( or the delivery date i'm not sure how that works when buying online). try it, get back to us and tell us what you think after a week or so. we just dont want you to make a hasty decision just because there's a learning curve.:)

It won't let me software update anything. Not even itunes. I get something like this ''Some of the selected updates couldn't be saved. The update could not be expanded and verified. it may have been tampered with''. Which I haven't. I also tried to update one by one, and it won't let me.

I have the 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. HARD DRIVE 1TB Serial ATA Drive and GRAPHICS Radeon HD 6970M 2GB. I'm using the wireless keyboard, with the track pad. I'm gonna keep it, but not being able to software update is frustrating me. I do appropriate you mac users patience with me, and those who try to help me.

$3k for an imac is reason enough for remorse. Imac is the most overpriced computer on the market. For $2K he can buy a faster computer with a better monitor that he can use on any computer and have enough money left over to buy an ipad and iphone outright.

$1 dollar is too much for a can of Coke. You could get water for free!

This is beyond me. Maybe someone can jump in and help. Also, you ought to have great phone support available from Apple for a few months (hopefully you got some papers about that). Feel free to give them a call about it. Certainly, this is something that shouldn't be happening.

Wow. Top of the line. I wish I had one of those on my desk! Well, hopefully it works out for you. You have certainly made a big investment and ought to expect a great experience from it. If no one has advice about the software update issue, please do give Apple a call.

Guys, if the OP wants to return it, there is nothing wrong with that. Stop giving negative markings just because you think otherwise.

I'm on the fence, but I'm probably going to go ahead and get my first iMac despite the reservations I have. That 27" screen is calling my name...

But the Dell XPS W7 machine I have now is awesome, and I'll probably have to keep it. There are too many things I do on the PC with software that does not run on Mac OS. I guess I could look into the boot camp route, but people who bash PC's like mine really have no clue. You are being just as closed minded as the people who laugh at iMac's.

Despite the fact that Apple is taking over the world (just kidding), Macs still have no better than 8%-9% of the market. Most of the other 92% are using a Windows based PC. So give the OP a break, at least he's being honest about the feeling you get when you first switch to an iMac.

Some people are a little defensive that someone might not like a mac ;)

If I was a PC user who played games, over clocked and was used to after markert mice/keyboards.... Then yeah I can see why someone might not be sold on an iMac at first. The magic mouse and wireless keyboard are frankly very nice looking but ergonomically they ahhh pffft, a quality logitech kb or mouse kills em.

I for one love my 27 iMac but...... I could not live without my gaming PC, it's really fun to tinker with, and frankly when I encode videos , the PC does it in less then 1/2 the time of the iMac.

To the OP give it a few more days, and try boot camp. If it's not for you, then return it. The bridge between PC and mac has closed over the last 2 years due to win 7, 2 years ago I would have not thought twice due to vista. I still think that for people who do not care about looks, a PC is the way to go and then hackintosh it. The iMac maybe lacking for power PC users and the mac pro is a ripoff for what you get.

Considering the OP's lack of replies to the offered help on here I'll lay money down he's a troll, especially given the nature of the post which almost tailored to give doubt to any prospective PC convert.
You just don't splash that kind of cash on a purchase and give up on it so quick unless you're extremely dumb, in which case he's probably better off with a PC anyways... ;)

Bit harsh there mate. Both sides have dumb users . Frankly if someone was IT challenged I'd recommend a mac for them. Most people I converted were too dumb to use a PC... Sad but true

Hey everyone! We've moved on from the troll accusations. And, the OP needs some help. Can anyone offer any? See the OP's (gtsgts) quote above.

There's plenty of posts on this forum that would contradict that sentiment, bud.

Not everyone has a hard time using Macs -- certainly at first it's different, but fundamentally it takes more than a day to get used to something.

Also, with regards to market share, Apple provide the hardware as well as software in the case of their own computers, Microsoft do not. Thus directly comparing market share is somewhat disingenuous, I've always thought.

I've owned 2 MacBooks Pro (one 2009 and another 2010).
I've sold the first one and decided to go back do PC.
Some months later I've sold the PC and bought a 2010 MacBook Pro.
Few months later I've sold the 2010 MacBook Pro and bought a MSI GX660 (Core i5 + 4Gb + Radeon 5870 Mobility GDDR5).

Today I feel remorse for spending so much money in Macs and don't really enjoying them.
I like Mac OS X, but I like it the same way that I like Windows 7. There's basically few differences, in pratice, between them.
Some things I HATE in Mac OS X, some things I HATE in Windows 7.

Yes, I agree with the person who said that fanboys get defensive when people say "I didn't like the Mac that I just bought". You know, it's important to say "I've just bought", because if you say that you don't like simply because you've saw it in your friend's house, they'll tell you too poor to aford one.

Either way, I don't feel like I'm going to Mac anytime soon.
I just hate how MacBooks Pro have a crap hardware (I don't care for the aluminium or giant multitouch trackpad) and, even worse, I just hate how iMacs seem to be designed for retards.
Really, why the *** all that difficult to open a chassi and change the HD?
Really, why the *** can't I use a 3rd party HD/SSD, why the *** did Apple put that custom firmware in HDs and a non-standard power cable?

Well. Some things are not for me.
I don't judge people who like Macs, but I definitely don't understand why they are so defensive with people that don't like Macs.

Mate try https://discussions.apple.com/message/11566054?messageID=11566054 diskrepair and permission repair . Real bummer to run into this on your first mac.

I got the new imac 27". This just isn't what I thought it would be. :( I just find myself wanting my pc back. I bought it online, arrived today. Could I return it to a apple store, and get my money back?

Are you serious? Return a Mac for a PC, without even trying it out for a few days - you've got 14 days to tes it out - use it.

But, when I heard it first I thought, immediately, of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nm5jl7aM08

It's not bloated if you build your own system without all the bloatware that Dell, Acer, HP, etc put on them :)

I had my first Mac 3 weeks before I started to like it. Of course now I would not go back to a Windows machine if you paid me $5,000.
