I would not argue with that but I think perhaps we are getting a bit over excited by this issue on this thread.
No, not over excited. when y
I have bought 2020 i7 8 core iMac with 5700. I’ve been having issues since day one. Stuttering when resizing windows.
When playing any of my games from the app store the sound is acting up with popping noises at regular intervals. The more graphics demanding the game is the more the sound is messed up. I just finished talking with the apple care rep and I may have to return the iMac since there may be no easy fix for these issues.
Unfortunately I have already bought 64 Gb’s of RAM.
This sounds like a lemon. Nobody in this thread have had issues like that.

I have the 2020 i7 with the 5700 and have been having issues from day one. None of my App Store games play without a glitch.
There are popping noises at regular intervals when playing games. The more graphics performance the game requires the more the sound acts up. I am going to test it with some 4K editing in a few days. I also noticed stuttering when resizing windows. With no easy fix in sight Should I return this iMac? I need some useful advice.

This sounds unrelated to what most people in this thread have been sharing. The flashing corners and white lines specifically do not increase or get worse when the system is taxed. What you are describing sounds more complex. You mentioned 64 GB of third party RAM. I assume you have tried removing that to see if anything changes?

This might be a dumb question and might not relate to the flashing white lines, but for those who are experiencing them, are you using third party RAM or Apple’s stock RAM?

First thing I did when I received my iMac was take out the 8GB stock RAM and pop in a 32GB kit from Crucial. I’m tempted to try putting the original 8GB in and using it for a few days to see what happens.

Apple only ram in my case. And it is one of the first things Apple asks about if and when you talk to them.

Stuttering and pops seem to suggest some kind of delays in one piece of hardware talking to another. Something unexpected going on that the hardware or software can not easily deal with. In my personal experience such symptoms have always been related to a hardware failure of some sort. Could be the video card, could be the ram, could be the hard drive, could be an external piece of gear. Some kind of unexpected timeouts on some level. You could use Console and see if there are any obvious error messages being logged. Often you will find nothing super-obvious if it’s a hardware issue though.

No I had the i7 and had both problems. I returned the Mac with the 5700XT and ordered one with the regular 5700 and have no issue.
I have the i7 with the 5700 GPU and have been having issues when playing my App Store games. There are popping noises at regular intervals. When I start controlling the game aggressively like banking my airplane hard then the sound is acting up even more. All my games play without a glitch both on my macbook pro with 6 core i7 and even on my 21 inch iMac with a 4 core i5. I have also noticed some stuttering when resizing windows like Safari.

I had the problem before and after installing Crucial RAM, don't think it's related.

@torifile Can you fix the options in the poll for 5300? I bet you mean "5300 GPU - no issue" and "5300 GPU - see the white horizontal line flicker occasionally"

Yes I did. I put back the apple 8 GB of RAM and nothing has changed for the better. The truth is I bought the 64 GB of RAM because I thought that would fix my issues. Ironically other things like watching HBOmax is problem free. There is occasional issue with stuttering when resizing a window. I have not noticed a white line yet though I have to admit my eye sight is probably not good enough for that.

My iMac (i7, 1TB, 8 GB RAM, 10gbe, 5700XT) that was ordered on 08/15 has finally arrived today via FedEx Shanghai (China) -> Sennan-Shi (Japan) -> Memphis (US) -> NJ (US). It was delivered at the wrong address but fortunately the recipient let me know and I drove to pick it up myself.

I already upgraded RAM to 64 GB using Samsung sticks but had problem opening the RAM door at the back. What worked best was LEGO Technic Liftarm, part 32063. Also, after replacing the memory and pressing the power button there was no feedback (no sound, black screen) for a while which had me worried but eventually iMac booted.

Perhaps, but it personally dampens my excitement of getting a new iMac for the very first time knowing that it may have this “minor” issue.

Like the posters above, mine's also using Apple RAM and I have the issue.

Me as well.

iMac 2020 Core i9
5700XT

Horizontal line flicker somewhere between the bottom third and bottom quarter of the screen.
Sometimes happens a few times in quick succession (maybe a couple seconds apart).
FaceTime app corner is fuzzy/flickers.

So, at least the issues seem relatively consistent. I hope Apple fixes it.

"Stuttering", as I mentioned above, seems to be an indicator of something else. If I were you, I'd return it. Before your 14 days is up. Order a new one. See if the problem persists.

Thanks to those who replied. I was just trying to cover all the bases that popped into my mind seeing if there may have been another common element. Back to the drawing board!
I think the only common element is simply the 5700 XT. If your ram is bad, you'll get different symptoms. It's the 5700 XT. It's rendering stuff wrong. This could be because of macOS in itself or the AMD drivers. I hope it's not the latter because, well, AMD is not known for quick fixes.

How can this happen? delivered at a wrong address? who signed for it?

This is almost a tragedy.

While we are waiting , what is Apple doing meanwhile ? it would be great they make a press announcement and give the potential buyer some clues if they make progress solving this problem. In 99 % of the reviews on the net no one noticed this glitch, very strange.

Do not expect an announcement at all.
If they find the time to check the glitch and decide to fix it they will just release a MacOs patch or embed it in BigSur.
