The treatment of choice for OCD is exposure and response prevention. Apple is actually helping you with your anxiety disorder ;) (I’m a clinical psychologist when I’m not picking on people for not focusing on the glitches reported in the OP.)
Apple is doing an excellent job of providing exposure therapy to those of us with OCD lately! ?

So my first machine with the issue came from Ireland. This new one is coming from China. I highly doubt it will make any difference, but I just wanted to note it. Where did everyone else’s come from?

Actually that doesn’t bother me too much unless the corners are really bad.

Interesting, it bothers me a lot more than the glitch. That is the problem with sitting close to a large LCD monitor. I notice the lack of perfectly even brightness across a large white background. Then there is the subtle color shift when viewing off axis.

And no, I don't think my monitor is faulty. I have never had a screen I thought was perfect. This one is better than most.
Even the OLED display on my iPhone Pro Max doesn't look perfect to me.

We definitely share some of the same affliction then. The occasional flicker drives me batty though, cause it’s about the time when you think it’s not going to happen again, and then BOOM ?

I have only definitively seen the flicker once since I setup my machine. I couple of times I think I saw something flicker but I was focusing on something on the screen. It's too intermittent to bother me. It did worry me before my iMac arrived.

China. I really feel like this is software — but if it isn’t — where the device was assembled doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Agreed, if this is hardware, its probably not a manufacturing defect at the assembly plant.

I had 2 iMacs from China. Both had the horizontal line issue.

I’m certain you’re right. Just kind of interesting to note. That was actually the first machine I’ve had come from Ireland and I’ve had countless. COVID must have played a part in that.

This reply was helpful for me reading this thread. I have a machine on order and will be using a second screen. So this convinced me to not cancel my order.
I always cringe anytime Apple releases something with an issue and we users find some ‘workaround’ for something none of us should be having to work around... It feels like letting them off the hook and excusing incomplete and broken or buggy products. Sad...

Okay something truly odd is going on here.

Last night, 4+ hours of usage, no flashing white line. This morning I use it for a couple hours, nothing. I'm out all day and get home about 3 hours ago and have been using the iMac since, again no flashing white line. Then as I'm using my iMac and playing around, I wanted to see if the Aerial screen saver would look any different if I change to a scaled resolution.

I typically stick with the default, but decide to change it to More Space (3200x1800) and then this happens (forgive the horrible quality and lighting conditions):

View attachment 947264
I have True Tone off and have Night Shift enabled, which has been on since sundown. Upon changing the resolution, half the screen is still in Night Shift, the other half not. My display is having an identity crisis! It persists this way until I change the resolution back to Default, then back to More Space, and it's back to normal.

Unable to duplicate this random occurrence anymore no matter what resolution settings I pick, if I enable/disable True Tone and Night Shift, etc.

This may or may not be related to the flashing white line that seems to pop up for us 5700XT owners. Has anyone heard or seen this happen on any previous generation of 27" 5K iMacs?

Did not see this post prior to opening a new thread but this happened on mine - 27" 5k 5500 XT. Was just using the machine and it randomly happened during the night. Fixed by enabling and disabling True Tone

It’s starting to appear as if there’s a plethora of graphical issues with these 5700 XT machines. HELLO APPLE! (echo chamber) ??‍♂️

It is. There should be no need for a workaround for a $3k+ machine but in the grand scheme of things, it’s so minor.

I guess the speed at which it gets fixed will tell us all how minor it is.

Id be willing to bet that if I rang Apple today to report this issue, I would get told they haven't heard of the issue before, and Im the first person to report it. That doesn't give me any confidence.

I was about to get this machine with the higher end card.. Now I am waiting until this is fixed.. or at least until Apple says this is a software issue and a fix is coming.

I hate when there are 23 pages of issues here ior anywhere and nobody is looking into this.

I won't spend money on a machine if I am not sure it is not hardware related... although it seems most people here think it is not.

Fair enough. It’s your money and you should do with it what you think makes sense. The vast majority of the evidence points to a software issue

- doesn’t happen with dual displays
- doesn’t happen in Windows
- doesn’t happen at resolution other than the default resolution
- isn’t affected by load or heat

In fact, the only thing that points to hardware is that it could be hardware. That’s it.

The iMac won’t get any cheaper between now and when it’s EOLed. But I get why you’d want to wait.

Mine's a 5500 XT machine tho :/ - but still a hefty sum to pay - I guess I don't get white flashing lines so there's that

@kkh I was able to duplicate the pixelated corner doing the steps you said, I opened both Safari and Mail, and kept the Mailboxes view open with an email selected. Alt-tabbing or even clicking somewhat quickly between the two resulted in that squared off group of pixels of the Mail app at random times. Sometimes it would remain for several "cycles" but it would also sometimes go away for several more. As for the flickering of the app window itself, I can't seem to get that to happen.

Also, I tried doing the same thing in other apps like Finder windows, Messages, Maps, Photos, etc. and this corner pixelation I can only get to happen in Finder and Mail, no other apps. I was able to do this in both Default as well as the 2048 resolution I've been using for a few days now.

Are you only seeing the corner pixelation in other apps/windows?

Because the specific person you reach may not have heard of it. I do not know how many CS people Apple has. Thousands? If you experience it, report it. If it's the first time the person you reach has heard of it, that's not something you need to worry about or feel discouraged about. They will listen and make a record of it -- the more detailed you can be the better -- and they will forward that on. And you will, thus, have helped all of us.
