Well, if you've worked at any kind of a tech company (be it apps, SaaS, physical products), it's always a deliberate balancing act of a) what you own from day one because you just can't do anything else, b) what you thoroughly investigate first and then ask your marketing department to spin some good verbiage for, and c) what you just remain silent about. As frustrating as this is to me as a customer -- having spent $5k on a machine with obvious dings -- I also do understand 100% that this is a tiny blip on a massive radar screen. As a very loyal Apple customer, I am simply asking them to look into this and fix it as soon as possible. While I want an immediate fix, to feel that what I purchased is 100% what I paid for, I also understand that there may be thousands of more important tasks lined up before this one. Just fix it. Fix it for Catalina. Fix it for Big Sur.
Agreed. Fix it for Catalina and of course BS will follow.

Does anyone have links to where these issues are being reported on other outlets?

Also, not to be condescending at all, but whoever is voting ‘no’ they have no issues with the 5700 XT needs to get their eyes examined or blink less or spend some more time with the machine. 😉

Is there some sort of memory leak with the 5700XT? Here are 3 screenshots of iStat Menu's memory graphs for my card. I just rebooted last night and I've got a day of zoom ahead of me so I'll check again later but it's really curious considering I'm not doing much to tax the GPU at all while using macOS.

That’s weird for sure! I’m assuming you’ve reported all this to Apple?
I have not. I just noticed it last night. TBH, I'm not even sure of the correct avenue to report this sort of thing.

I’d call support and ask for a senior advisor to report this to engineering.

If I receive my computer and I experience this problem it will be returned (with the reason why given). Many customers returning the equipment is what Apple will take notice of and react most quickly to.

You all should be doing the same.
I already returned one machine with the issues. Having another arrive Wednesday. If this one does it as well I am going to have to do some thinking about whether I want to trust Apple to fix it while still on Catalina. If they refuse to release a fix for Catalina and only do it for BS then I may be done with the Intel iMac completely. Sad 😞

KKH, are you saying the white line issue is worse??
It's about the same i.e. completely random. Saw no white lines at all during setup. As soon as I launched Safari to post on Macrumors that I had completed the installation, I saw the white lines. Many in succession. Then nothing. As it's been for me in Catalina. The corner rounding radius is larger in Big Sur so I thought that maybe the corner bug was gone at least. But, as soon as I opened Mail... boom. So, it appears to be all the same issues the very same way. While the drivers carry bigger version numbers, these particular bugs have not been addressed. Does not surprise me since we have been reporting it only for, what, two weeks now? And also, would not surprise me since they just got beta 6 working on these machines in general.

I would post any findings to the official Apple forums. That's how Apple ended up reaching out to me to discuss details and request more data. There is also this page that I used to send them feedback when this first occurred: https://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html -- no idea how often that is reviewed by Apple though.

I have not voted, but I have been running my 2020 XT equipped system for two weeks now with no issue. I use it about 8 hours a day, mostly in Safari as I have not transitioned any real work over to it yet. No flashing, lines, odd corners. Working well so far, and I hope it continues.

Were these manufactured all at one location? Maybe it's a manufacturing issue for certain assembly/production points?

Do you have a second display connected?

The machines have come from both Ireland and China with the same issues.

That’s awesome that you haven’t noticed, but no one is going to convince me these issues are ‘machine specific’. That would indicate a hardware issue or an extensive ‘bad batch’. As ironic as this might sound, I’m going to give Apple a little credit in that I don’t think this has happened.

If I were the betting type I’d bet the farm that all 5700 XT 2020 iMacs exhibit the same graphical issues. The glitches might indeed be so sporadic that you haven’t spotted them yet. I guess that’s good for you...? Personally I’d rather face the problems head on.

Good luck!

I ran the iMac by itself until two days ago when I did hook up a 27" through HDMI and the Apple HDMI to USB-C adapter.

I have seen the same thing (I mentioned it earlier in the thread), looks like a memory leak to me. It would be great in anyone else with a tool to monitor GPU memory could also check this out.

That's your decision but not everyone can make the same choice - I use my iMac to work and I've been waiting for it to be updated, making a 13" screen work until then.

I won't be returning my machine. I am using it to get work done and this problem is not interfering with that.

I agree that a person can get work done, but we should all be getting what we paid for. I wouldn’t buy a new BMW with a big door ding on the side of it.

I don't consider that an accurate analogy. It's more like buying a new BMW with a software defect and if you did buy a new BMW, it would have plenty of software and hardware defects. Over the last 25 years I have owned or leased 8 BMWs and not one of them has been free of defects. The V8 in my current 2011 X5 has had all sorts of issues. When the current X5 model was launched a couple of years ago, it shipped with numerous software defects and a lane keeping feature that was dangerously ineffective.

And its not like you can buy a defect free computer from another vendor. Windows is riddled with defects and could buck your computer with a single update.

Agree to disagree on the analogy. This is exactly how I feel about spending $4k on a machine that flashes me. And not in a good way. 😉

Well at least you aren't spending $60k to $100k on a machine that leaves you stranded on the side of the road. :)

That would not even be remotely ok with me either! Not sure I’d buy another BMW after that.

Has anyone received any follow up contact from Apple after their initial communication? Just trying to gauge how proactive and attentive they are being to these issues. Certainly by this point their engineers have experienced the problems listed here first hand. It’s mind numbing to think they missed them before the release to begin with.
