I purchased AppleCare+
I thought I had 1 year warranty (extended to 3 years)?

There’s a big difference between hoping it gets fixed under warranty, and getting a full refund though.

Yes. Until it's known for sure if its hardware or software related, I think I would return within the 14 day refund period IF I had already bought one. As most would probably agree, this issue is not acceptable on a machine this price. Apple needs to address it immediately, which I doubt they will do.

On a separate note, if you boot in SafeMode, when you drag a window, does the borders looked pixelated?

Thats good, but I wouldn't call that an acceptable work around.

A lot of people with 27" 5K screen, won't run a second monitor. So this issue needs to be addressed. At the very least we need to ascertain if its hardware or software.

Has anyone noticed if it happens while in Bootcamp Windows?
I didn't mean to imply that it was a workaround. It's not a workaround for me, but my planned setup all along... It does give a little more support to the theory that it's a software issue.

I've been running Windows in bootcamp (again, with a second monitor) with no issues.

This morning I was looking at an html email with tons of images in it in Mail and I could see two white lines shoot across the images in the email. Again, it could be some kind of a compositing issue with transparency or alpha but I have now seen white lines inside of multiple active application windows (Mail, Logic Pro, Adobe InDesign). Most of the time, however, they do seem to occur outside the active window.

Apple says if we can replicate with them doing a screen share, they can determine if it's hardware or software. But getting it to happen at the moment they are logged in is nearly impossible.

I have this issue. What RAM did you guys use to upgrade and what speed is it?
I have the 5700XT and I don't have 2 monitors but I have not noticed it in Windows yet?
Has anyone had the issue in Windows?

Just record your screen using QuickTime and check the recording, it should be the same as screen sharing.

Well, the blinking corner problem is there all the time for me. Just open Mail and move the window around. The white lines seem to be 100% random.

Screen sharing with Apple. Hmm. Assuming the following:

• If it's a macOS issue, if the OS itself is instructing the card to draw something incorrectly, then somebody should see those problems remotely. This is software. I could test this myself, now that I think about it. Just remote in from another computer.

• If it's a video card driver issue, you wouldn't see that remotely. The card is rendering the screen for you only, locally. This is still a software issue, though. But in AMD's court. Unless screen sharing works like video capture. Does anybody know if sharing your screen is essentially a video stream? Assuming not if the remote person can drive your computer.

• If it's a video card hardware issue, you wouldn't see that remotely.

• If it's another kind of iMac hardware issue, you wouldn't see that remotely.

Shared my screen and am viewing it from my old iMac. The flickering corners problem seems to instantly go away on my new (5700 XT) iMac! Weird! Attempting to confirm 100%.

Correction:

It seemed to go away when I first remoted in. But it just returned. And I can see the sharp Mail corner remotely, too, from my old iMac.

I use the ram that shipped with the iMac.

Apple said if they can see thru the screen share then its a software bug. If not, then it's hardware.
Are you saying that the same concept applies if I do a QuickTime recording?

Captured this image from my old iMac, via screen sharing. The sharp Mail corner is still there. Did not attempt to test for the white lines yet.

So, if anybody gets on a call with Apple support (personally do not have time today), and if Apple remotes into your computer via screen sharing, they should be able to see the sharp corners at least. This alone should be enough to convince Apple that something's going on.

The concept should be the same. If you do a screen recording with Quicktime, afaik, it captures the contents of the screen buffer before it all hits the video card.

Just got my 3,8 i7 5700XT 16GB with 512 SSD - same issue as the OP. Hope it is just a driver glitch. Had it about 3-5 times today.

Apple did a remote screen share into my computer and were able to see the sharp corner issue.
But I couldn't replicate the horizontal line

Excellent! Thank you for doing that. It's a start. Maybe they will see white lines if anybody else does it.

I will do my best then to try to capture in Quicktime. Everyone should also try. Then we'll know if it's a hardware or software issue.

Another observation. Noticed this with Mail again.

If I have Mailboxes shown, with the translucent background, the top left corner flickering is constant when slowly moving the Mail window around. If I hide Mailboxes, the constant flickering goes away. But toggling between the Mail and other windows, the sharp corner still comes back. Same if I go to Accessibility > Display and check Reduce Transparency -- the flickering when moving disappears but the sharp corner returns eventually.

And while Safari has its sidebar with that identical kind of translucency (the kind Mailboxes does), I do not get this sharp or flickering corner issue with Safari at all. And what’s the difference visually with the two apps? The window toolbar areas in Mail and Safari are different: the placement of the close, minimize, and maximize buttons is vertically different. Then, curiously, if I open Xcode (with its project navigator open, again with that translucent background), it has a toolbar identical to Safari, yet I get the sharp corner issue in Xcode.
