Well, I doubt that we'll see new iMacs today since Apple has a new splash screen on their website about the iPhone SDK...

Steve Jobs just announced that iMac and Mac Mini revisions are due at the WWDC. They'll be unveiled the first day on June 9th, incorporating Montevina and the thinnest desktop form factor around. He also promised changes that will revolutionize desktop computing as we know it.

I call april fools

Well, I might have made all of your wishes come true:I just ordered a 20" iMac.

I cannot afford to wait, though I will be heartsick (I think) if they announce new models this evening.

Four times this evening--and I have only been using the computer for a few hours, the eMac screen has gone dark. (It resembles an EKG screen flatlining: it blips in the center and then goes dark.) Pounding on the sides of the eMac has resuscitated it each time, but I cannot afford to be w/o a computer even for a day if it suddenly blips and then refuses to "unblip."

20" iMac with edu discount of 50.00 (should be more IMO)
Free printer (after rebate)

I really think I had no choice, so I hope things work out.

Even though I have given myself until the 15th and even though if it had come out today I wasn't going to buy until then....

I'M PISSED! :mad::apple:

SAME I am also REALLY PISSED how long does it take to update the comp.
right now the macbook is not only cheaper but it is also better!! thats complete bull that is not supposed to happen between a comp and a laptop

i have been waiting for the past 6 weeks for this D*** update!!!:(
Apple is loosing it

Do keep in mind that this is all self imposed suffering. Apple has not officially said anything about these updates. It's all just rumors.

That being said, this is the one thing about Apple that I am not crazy about. Being someone who works in technology I understand why you would not want to give out too much information about upcoming products but something...anything would be nice here.

Throw me a freakin bone here.

I feel now that Apple are going to skip on on the Penryn update for the iMac... The benefits only really show for a laptop... :( and I wanted one before my Birthday in mid April... Boooo!

I doubt it .. they need to update their iMac line as it is currently under powered in comparison to the laptops. There is definitely an in-balance that they have not fully addressed in their pricing and/or features.

Also, I have to imagine they are readying some change as the apple website has had the ridiculous and useless iphone SDK ad for weeks now. Talk about a turn-off for any typical consumer .. you have to imagine Apple's marketing group is chomping at the bit to get some new campaign started.

ALSO .. they have removed the "new" tags from all items on the front page of the apple store. Which to me at least indicates they are going to let existing products sit for a bit (week or two?) before they come out with another "new" product that they can highlight.

Anyway .. my two cents .. (and mostly my hopes .. as I need to get a new iMac for the wife and kids before they hang me from the playset).

Well I hope you're right kraka40 but my understanding is that Penryn won't be much of an update in performance terms... based on other forums here at MR.

Well according to Intel there is about a 120-130% uptick in performance at the same cycle frequency (don't quote me on that :) .. as I don't have time or patience to go find the article, nor do I fully trust Intel PR)

.. but more so what I'm hoping for is an upgrade in the graphics card

.. and (one I'm not holding my breath for) .. is that Apple switches to the desktop cpu's uping the FSB from 800 Mhz to 1.3 GHz and/or above. This should provide a considerable performance boost.

I went w/ iMac even though the laptop has been upgraded and the iMac has not, and I did it because...well, I don't really like laptops--I hate laptop keyboards, and I don't really need the portability. Conversely, I really do want the extra monitor real estate that iMac will provide.

Also, I recognized a blatant contradiction in my thinking: it wasn't that long ago that I was bemoaning the fact that Apple was going to become defiled by ::shudder:: Intel, and now I was waiting for Intel's great new Penryn chip?

My fingers are crossed that I did the right thing. Time, as they say, will tell.

lol that happens on the time. mac pro's can eat iMacs, dell xps laptops eat the xps all in one, etc. etc. etc.

the difference between the macbook and imac however is not that substantial and will be addressed when the iMac switches to montevina in june.

Wow. This thread really reminds me how happy I am that I chose to get my iMac in mid-February instead of waiting! (Only because the conversation on these forums was almost EXACTLY the same as this at that point.) That would have been ONE LONG WAIT!

Good luck with your decisions guys. I know it isn't an easy one.

It'd be nice if it was true... though not for you.

Nothing's opened yet, could be a good news... if it was one. Been waiting for more than a month now, since I sold my MBP, and an iMac release next week would be fine (finally).

So what graphics card are likely to be used in the new iMac? Does coolness of the card itself play a big factor?

And I remember reading on here in a post that the X1600 was actually pretty decent at the time?! (i.e. I always think of Apple putting Low-Mid in their computers)

Here's a question. Is this not a contradiction: people ripping on the lack of quality in the displays but wanting upgrades to include Blu-Ray? What would be the point of higher definition if the monitor's definition doesn't improve proportionately?
