Well you can all rest assured that Apple will be announcing the new iMacs tomorrow as my clothes dryer just died and I had to cough up a grand for a new one. <sigh>
Mine just did too.... ominous.... (although I am not in the market for new iMac)
I disposed of a 5 yrs old PC and bought an 20" IMac 2.4 GHz and put in 4G RAM. Why wait, the new Penryn has not much more to offer and you would get only 3M cache in stead of 4M. Since it's unlikely that you'll get a GPU upgrade, the decision is very easy.
What a loada crap.....iMacs are painfully overdue a refresh![]()

It is amazing to me that Apple has not updated their IMACs yet. What a bunch of losers. Who would honestly buy an outdated IMAC?
Yea, Apple really cares about their users..... NOT!
Why is it amazing? There's a lot of us iMac users who are very happy with the current iMac - it is still more than capable of everything I throw at it, including HD video editing, and music recording. I would hardly call it outdated. Sure, the graphics card isn't the top of the range, but then again, if I wanted a gaming machine, I would have bought a PC!
Wasn't the last big Mac Pro update close to a year?![]()

so lets look at the possibilities:
1. updates tomorrow, nothing great, but at least you know you've future proofed yourself for at least 200 days.
2. no update tomorrow.. which would mean what, we wait till the next tuesday, and the tuesday after that?
3. apple waits for WWDC in june
4. apple waits till imacs birthday (august 15th)
people have also mentioned the WWDC thing.. but that seems unlikely to me, i think the big news there is going to be iphone2 and sdk crap. the only desktop product they seem to ever introduce there is the MacPro.. which makes sense when you're talking to the primary audience that buys your ridiculously over priced workstations.
apple could do an update tomorrow and on the imacs birthday, there would be 130 days in between there. maybe a processor/gpu upgrade tomorrow and a blueray drive on august 15th? but jesus, if apple doesn't update soon, would they really wait an entire year to do a revision??
im new to the imac scene, but it seems ridiculous how apple treats its flagship product.. with the move to intel, you'd think they would be upgrading the imac more and more.. not less and less.
now seems like a proper time to put out the new imac, but im loosing hope with the lack of any news about impending updates. at the very least, apple needs to update something to get rid of that stupid SDK front page...
I think--now--that a new machine in August makes a great deal of sense for Apple, just in regard to promotional strategies alone.
However, I also believe that the current machine is wonderful, and I recommend that people who are waiting for the next big thing to enjoy the iMac now.
(What if the new iMacs are, in essence, MacAirs on aluminum stands? What then?)
Really, enjoy the iMoment.)
