iMac (aluminum) Hardware Updates for Spring 08 Speculation

Mine just did too.... ominous.... (although I am not in the market for new iMac)
Wow... You're both pretty lucky.. I wish mine did, because it's absolute garbage, but, *sigh*, unfortunately it hasn't. Oh well, here's hoping for the update tomorrow, as I'm waiting for an update before I buy.

so lets look at the possibilities:
1. updates tomorrow, nothing great, but at least you know you've future proofed yourself for at least 200 days.
2. no update tomorrow.. which would mean what, we wait till the next tuesday, and the tuesday after that?
3. apple waits for WWDC in june
4. apple waits till imacs birthday (august 15th)
people have also mentioned the WWDC thing.. but that seems unlikely to me, i think the big news there is going to be iphone2 and sdk crap. the only desktop product they seem to ever introduce there is the MacPro.. which makes sense when you're talking to the primary audience that buys your ridiculously over priced workstations.
apple could do an update tomorrow and on the imacs birthday, there would be 130 days in between there. maybe a processor/gpu upgrade tomorrow and a blueray drive on august 15th? but jesus, if apple doesn't update soon, would they really wait an entire year to do a revision??
im new to the imac scene, but it seems ridiculous how apple treats its flagship product.. with the move to intel, you'd think they would be upgrading the imac more and more.. not less and less.
now seems like a proper time to put out the new imac, but im loosing hope with the lack of any news about impending updates. at the very least, apple needs to update something to get rid of that stupid SDK front page...

I have to say, I'm waiting for a long time on the new imac and I can wait a little longer. I rather have the montevina chip in june than a little upgrade with penryn.

It certainly has been a long time! I bought mine after the dissapointment of no new iMacs at Macworld in February!

Why is it amazing? There's a lot of us iMac users who are very happy with the current iMac - it is still more than capable of everything I throw at it, including HD video editing, and music recording. I would hardly call it outdated. Sure, the graphics card isn't the top of the range, but then again, if I wanted a gaming machine, I would have bought a PC!

I understand and I too have an IMAC that runs fine. However, would you pay top dollar for a device that close to a year old? I would hope not
I wasn't able to wait any longer (my eMac was close to death), so I bought a 20" iMac. (It was delivered on Saturday, but I wasn't able to set it up until yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.)

I read all the negative accounts about the display, but I think the display is wondrous.
Sure, this the honeymoon period, but I really don't think I'm going to be beating myself up if new machines come out tomorrow.

I always love the complaining over the iMacs. It's still a great machine and will be even after it is updated. The two machines will not be that different and the only difference may be HDD sizes/RAM. It's possible for a different graphics card but again the processing power will not change much at all.

11 months passed between the white core2 duo iMac update and the alum imac update, so yes, apple is quite capable of waiting an entire year.
The last two Mac Pro updates have been at macworld (07) and the first week of jan this year, so your info on the mac pro being updated at the WWDC is dated.
Last year most people hypothesized that apple wanted to introduce the updated alum iMac at the WWDC alongside the iPhone hype, but was delayed by problems with the revision/transition to the metal enclosure. perhaps this year they'll be on time.
in terms of apple updating "less and less" instead of more and more, it's simply a reflection of the limits of current technology. Processor, memory, etc. is not advancing fast enough for that logic to apply anymore. I also see no problem with the way apple treats the alum iMac. It's the best all-in-one computer on the market and that is reflected by the fact that is it is still selling strong, 8 months after its introduction.

I think--now--that a new machine in August makes a great deal of sense for Apple, just in regard to promotional strategies alone.
However, I also believe that the current machine is wonderful, and I recommend that people who are waiting for the next big thing to enjoy the iMac now.

considering the MBA keeps selling out, i'd say there's plenty of people enjoying their "imoments" with it.
as for promotional strategies, june and early july are the best times to launch new computers or updates as high school seniors graduate and go out looking for a computer for college during these months.
