Sick of waiting, I bought a refurb instead.

Apple almost had me purchase a maxed out iMac if they released an update in the last 3 months.

Thank you for your very very good points. :)

That's why I ordered a 20'' refurb 10 days ago...and got it 3 days ago....the logic board of my G5 died the 4th time....so I have no choice but to get a 'new' one.

I didn't get the 'bonus' upgrade but I am a very happy person now.

You have to consider other factors as well.

Prices on the refurb iMacs are pretty low. I doubt they go much lower when the new models hit. (maybe $100 lower max on the low-end 20" iMac.)

Also if you're selling an old Mac to finance a new one then you're probably going to get more for it today than 2-4 months from now.

So waiting won't necessarily get you more tech for your money.

But it all depends on the what the new models offer.

I think ideally one should wait until new models come out to purchase. But that timing isn't always right for everyone.

Well I caved in and bought a 2.8 GHz w/ 2GB RAM, 500GB HD from an apple retail store

To me it was just that my old computer a G4! Powerbook, with 512MB Ram, 80GB HD and 64bit graphics card just wasn't cutting it at ALL

And even if they update it in the next weeks or month, I'll be happy with my purchase, because it was such a solid upgrade for me, I never had the new OS or even Front Row! Never had an iSight, never had such a large harddrive or screen resolution!

So anyway, I hope well to all that can wait, for me my 4 year old powerbook just was TOO old!

so Futureshop in canada has had iMacs on sale for over 2 weeks now... are resellers really going to continue having iMacs on sale until the summer? is Apple really going to prolong their "Limited Time Special Offer", which already seems to have been going on since the dawn of time...

but week after week, still no iMac update... and might i add that this week's online apple store closing was such a tease... i mean seriously, Final Cut Studio now shipping? come on!

RELEASE THE NEW IMACS ALREADY!!!

That's how I feel! Update them on tuesday please!!!

I caved too, wasn't willing to wait till June. If the update is really great I will just sell this one and upgrade. Picked up a 24" 2.4ghz. A local store here has a 14 day return policy with no restocking fee for desktop computers. So I might return it if something new blows me away.

It's nice not to have to "worry" about when the update will come.

I am seriously about to cave any moment now too. If a super tuesday doesn't happen soon, I don't know what I'll do.

Okay, its coming tommorrow - my dog told me so, and he's on the case big time when it comes to this stuff.

We know its going to be Penryn, but which processsors do you think they'll give us?

What do reckon to:

20 inch, T8100 (2.1Ghz, 3MB l2)
20 inch, T9300 (2.5Ghz, 6MB L2)
24 inch, T9300 (2.5Ghz, 6MB L2)
24 inch, X9000 (2.8Ghz, 6MB L2)

I think 2GB of RAM in the 24 inchers would be the honourable thing to do as well.

Still not willing to pay full price for an antique, even if it will serve my current needs fine. I want the latest and greatest and I'm willing to pay (and wait) for it. We all know it's coming. Just a matter of time...................:D

Hmmm

Well, I think that even if they don't release new ones tomorrow, I will buy one. I use a mac at work, have been a consultant on mac purchases for the department, but have never personally owned a Mac. This will be my first, and I don't know if I can wait much longer. I'm not anti-pc or anything, but really look forward to "officially" changing over. Plus, it's not like the current imac is horrible.

The apple store is still online. It's 2 am, do you know where you iMac revision is? It's coming to the WWDC in june, thats where it is.

if the store was closed down now at 2:00am EST (11:00pm PST) it would be likely for maintenance... store will close down in a few hours from now in the early morning (EST), like it did last week, if there are new products to be included.

the store shutdown before 2 am EST on the "eve" of the MB and MBP, as well as the MP/xserver updates.

ok, i was about to buy the 24", 2.8 extreme the weekend passed. but i got a call from a mac insider (friend who works there in UK). he told me to wait for 2 weeks, when the new imacs will be out. date was to be 22 of the month, but it got a 1 week delay. release date is 28 of the month. mot much comparing to the time you all been waiting for it. thing is, even he did not know what the new things on it will be. it's just a mystery. :(
