nono. absolutely. he works for apple, yes. i could not wait for the next one to come, cuz i need it for my work. but he insisted i should wait 2 weeks til the new one comes out. he said it's confirmed. April 28.

Well I caved in and bought a 2.8 GHz w/ 2GB RAM, 500GB HD from an apple retail store

To me it was just that my old computer a G4! Powerbook, with 512MB Ram, 80GB HD and 64bit graphics card just wasn't cutting it at ALL

And even if they update it in the next weeks or month, I'll be happy with my purchase, because it was such a solid upgrade for me, I never had the new OS or even Front Row! Never had an iSight, never had such a large harddrive or screen resolution!

So anyway, I hope well to all that can wait, for me my 4 year old powerbook just was TOO old!

You waited 4 years. You can wait a few more days.

some of you guys are so suspicious, its getting ridiculous..
why should i take the time to register to a forum, as if i wasn't already a member of others, just to let you know what someone who works in apple told me. for fun? ffs...

Just remember what i told ya here when it comes out.

actually, someone in another thread mentioned that Apple is very unlikely to update anything big before the sales reports on the 23rd ( ? ) as it would confuse anaylists - and if that's true, if apple has always had low or minimal updates about a month or so before quarterly sales reports, then your story and date would line up with this and therefore have more credibility...

The same reason why we've been told that they would be released back in Feb and then again in March. No one knows anything about what Apple will do. Full stop.

Just remember what i told ya here when it comes out.

I hope you are right, because i've been waiting for a long time too. But if it doesn't, will you buy me an iMac for making me wait longer? :)

my Spring 08 Speculation for new iMacs: (for the $1799 Model - 3rd Model)... and the model i'm interested in buying:

-25" Glossy Screen (slightly thinner profile)
-2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
-2GB memory
-500GB hard drive
-10x double-layer SuperDrive
-NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB
-New Mighty Mouse Design (maybe with Touch?)
-Apple Remote Not Included

that's nonsense, my dear m8.

the 28th is a monday, which is of course highly doubtful.

are you referring to the 25" screen and new mighty mouse design? i agree that's a bit of a stretch (as i've used Bold type to show)... but for the rest i'm sure will be correct... don't you?

Do you use the mouse that came with the iMac? It squeaks and creeks upon every click. Quite annoying. I don't remember the wireless one doing that so not sure what is up with that. I think it's reasonable to expect a better mouse.

25" screen does not seem realistic.

So, what sort of GPU upgrade can be expected?

2.1 in the 20" base model.
2.5 in the upper 20" and 24".
Up to 2.6 as a BTO in the 20", and up to a 2.8 Extreme BTO in the 24".

EDIT: sorry, just read the GPU...maybe a 512 option for the 24" like in the Macbook Pro, and it will likely be a BTO option. Outside of that, I wouldn't expect anything amazing on the Graphics end.

Ugh!!! I hope they hurry up, the time when I have to get one is rapidly approaching! And it'd not be the end of the world to get the existing model but I'd be nice to get an updated one!!!

Since it has some updates that may point to new HW with 10.5.3 ... might be soon.

Though all the possible changes would probably mean, the new CPUs and the GPUs updated to the the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400/3650 units.

Slight mods in the specs, and likely not much else ...

got my new imac 24inc 2.8

Gave up waiting on this. Ordered one yesterday and it is now sitting prettily at my desk.
This is going to be my first ever mac experience will start exploring it soon.:)

don't the iMacs usually have the same GPU as the MacBook Pros? new MBSs have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB... i think it would be REALLY LAME if the upcoming iMacs didn't have the same GPU as the MBPs

Not sure about new GPU's, Apple used the X1600 in the white iMacs from jan 2006 till august 2007. I'm pretty sure the new iMacs will stay pretty much the same graphics wise... :(

Im not 100 percent sure but I think somewhere in between those two dates you stated they had an option for a 7600gt. So we still have some hope in getting a GPU upgrade.
