with chin if the display is dust proof , otherwise, we had enough of stains on the display
They need to laminate the display at microns level

I am a graphic designer by trade and I had some fun playing with what the new design could look like. I took in consideration all the rumors - having an iPad Pro like design language, Pro XDR Bezels and I put in the visual design of the XDR stand. The only question is what do they do with the Iconic chin. My guess is they won’t be getting rid of it completely.

Which won do you guys think Apple with go with? I personally like the reduced chin look.

Amazing work man! Chinless is most futuristic, big chin is an homage, so I vote the smaller chin with Logo so it wouldn't get mistaken for a new Xiaomi or Huawei all in one ;-)

But guys, where do they put all the internals? If this was all flat like the iPad Pro, it's impossible to fit everything inside if it's going to be high end 10th gen intel. It would either A) need to be thicker like the XDR. B) be thin at the edges and thicker in the middle like now. C) some of the tech inside the stand like SurfaceStudio.

Small chin just for the apple logo and maybe better front facing speakers.

I have mine on a Humanscale monitor arm so paying extra for a stand wouldn't bother me too much, in fact, reduced price if not wanting a stand would be good, I'd go for the mini chin version.

Maybe all the components will be fit inside the stand, and you can choose what type of display/screen you want on top of them. Modular design.

Stand + monitor/display of you choice (aka 21.5, 23, 27, 30 ...)

VHS is a classic design. Should we have kept that. No chin in the future. No need for a chin

VHS didn’t go away because of the way the physical device looked. The iMac is an iconic look that is instantly recognizable as a Mac. If apple removes the chin entirely than unless you really know what you are looking at, it’s just another nice looking computer monitor. Not to mention the chin serves the useful purpose of housing the speakers. No chin likely means crappier speakers. I’m hoping for a reduced chin and space gray on all models.

That's a fantastic idea!! It just might look out of proportion when it needs to be able to hold a 21 aswell as a 30". But the idea is superb! I'd call it the "magic stand" ;-)

No chin. iMac should have a design that looks good with a multi monitor setup, that means having a matching second monitor to the iMac. with a chin that’s very difficult.

The chin is empty and Apple can reduce substantial cost by completely removing it in 2020 model of iMac.

iPhones don’t have the Apple logo on the front. Nor the ipads. Neither do the Macbook air or pro. Nor does the XDR display.

the only device with an Apple logo on the front is the iMac with its ancient design.

Current Apple product design does not need an Apple logo on the screen to express the brand. Instead the screen and UI itself does that.

i therefore think it is most unlikely that there will be an Apple logo on the front or that there will be anything other than a big display, very similar to the iPad Pro - and so there’ll be no chin.

Apple will maximise the screen real estate by minimising then bezel, thereby increasing screen size, benefiting customers and further differentiating what are already the best 5k screens on the market.

From an aesthetic point of view, it definitely looks better, more balanced WITH the chin, reduced or otherwise. Without it just looks like a regular monitor. Reduce the bevels, yes, but keep the chin with the iconic Apple logo.

‘Ancient design’.... good design as anyone will from you is TIMELESS. The iMac STILL looks better than ANY comparative PC that I’ve seen even today.

Erm... since when? I can‘t think of ANY VHS player that is considered a design classic. :/

So they’ll remove the chin, but that forces them to make it even more difficult to access the internals. Maybe they’ll solder in the ram on all versions. And the storage. And remove the SD card reader.

So the more interesting question is: What will you sacrifice to get rid of the chin?

I’m pretty sure they will move in the direction of huge iPad on a stick and zero possibility for user upgrades. So in time Mac Pro will be the only machine you can upgrade yourself... and that rules out none-pro’s that cannot afford 6000 on a computer

Hmmm...(mimics Steve, thoughtfully stroking ‘chin’).... I prefer the one with an OS which doesn’t have kernel panics every time I turn it on.

If the chin means better cooling or a hotter video card because the cooling can allow for it then keep the chin by all means.

If the chin is there so they have an Apple logo on the screen then gtfo.

Love the reduced chin design. The iMac must have a chin otherwise its just another display and how will people know it's an iMac when its turned off or on screen saver mode which is what it will be most of the time.

I believe the Chin is iconic and Apple will keep the beautiful Apple logo on the front as well, the no chin design is really LAME and BORING and I can see countless number of displays with this thin bezel look in Best Buy today. I do not believe Apple has lost all of its design chops just yet so the chin must remain.

Furthermore the chin is what I use to place postit notes on.

Not to pick on you, because it seems like a common sentiment, but why do people feel a need to have someone “know” their computer is a Mac?

This supports the idea that Apple products are fashion accessories meant to show off your ability to pay more than you need to for the actual performance just to prove that you can.

I love my Apple products, but it’s not my job to advertise for Apple, nor do I need to impress anyone.
