The part that can be damaged is on the cable, not inside phone.

Whenever I read this, I am curious how people are treating their electronic devices.

Do you actively mangle the plug in the inlet? The cable easily slides over the plug and once you remove it, slides off of it. Do you use pliers to bend the plug? I am really curious, as I have employed a lot of USB-C devices with no pain whatsoever and not a faulty plug, despite employing it lots of times. (see my iPad).

switching to usb-c is terrible for the environment. thanks EU for this disaster.

Your comment adds insight other than slandering the only practical working democracy in the world. Just because Apple can't pay off EU politicians as they do in the US does not make the decision terrible; it makes it less biased.
It's obviously the only right path forward, as anyone with insight will tell you. Now the EU will make interchangeable batteries the next step to avoid insane markups by Apple. I can't wait to hear how you will defend a billion-dollar cooperation over the planet.

Steve said OS X setup Apple for the next 20 years starting back around 2001. Doesn't mean they're going to get rid of OS X anytime soon.

Dissatisfied absolutely means EU had influenced the roadmap in some way. It's entirely possible Apple wanted a portless phone in the next few years and was going to push MagSafe hard (possibly eliminating the cable from the box by now so the user has to choose between buying another lightning cable or go MagSafe).

Apple can still go portless and use MagSafe, provided people can plug their MagSafe cables into USB-C chargers, or no? I guess the biggest MagSafe challenge for now is a fast data transfer.

It's not the port that is different but the controller in the SoC. iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are still using last year's A16, while the 15 Pro's A17 will have it's own built-in support for Thunderbolt and/or fast USB.
That said the point is again(repeated) they should use the same setup speed for all the series:rolleyes:

I won't miss lightning as I'll continue to use it for another year at least. I get the appeal of having all USB-C but that connector just makes me nervous. Already had a few iffy removals from my new Mac Studio. It's just not as robust as lightning, specs and standards aside.

Honestly, I’d expect some legislation around this topic as it sort of goes against the whole idea of making USB-C mandatory. And I also expect Apple to implement, sooner rather than later. some sort of sw upgrade like Tesla does.

explain yourself. what about lightning is better than USB-C?
Ease of use. USB-C has an extra tongue in the female receptor so it’s harder to get a cable in correctly. Lightening is smaller, slimmer and has the female side is just a square hole, with the male side being a square tip that slips right inside. There are tons of lightening cables that will have to be recycled, but most will end up in landfills instead. Few people need Thunderbolt because Wi-Fi is so fast on these.

On the other hand why are USB-A devices & cables still a thing? Those need to be banned. 👍🏻

EU has already said that Apple won’t get away with that since they do not see it as complying with the regulations.

Again, with the EU ruling the world........this should be about the people just political BS
taking it personally? If so, that wasn't the intention. need to keep two part

didn't say lightning is *better*, but it's more environmentally friendly to keep it around instead of switching to USB-C when we all know Apple ultimately will make a portless phone.
How is a portless iPhone supposed to replace the TB3 connector? A TB3 connector is for fast data transfer, how should it be replaced in a portless iPhone?
A portless iPhone is even more of a waste, since everyone has to use a wireless charger.
I think wireless charging is useless, I've never used it.

So instead of USBC u need a magsafe cable. What’s environmental friendly about that?
And additional u get less efficient charging and slower data transfer.

Instead UsBC cable for a few bucks, magsafe cable apple sells for tripple the price.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. I’m genuinely going to miss the lightening connection. It’s such a sturdy little connector. It never failed me.

I’ve been through countless lightning cables over the past ten years, they’re not exactly robust. They break all the time and go straight to landfill.

Meanwhile, and this is anecdotal of course, not a single usb c in our house has broken yet.

So I’m happy to switch to usb c which will hopefully cut down on my environmental impact a little. It most certainly won’t make it worse.

Again with EU rules the world........this should be about the people just political BS

EU doesn’t rule the world, EU decides what can be sold within EU. Apple is free to either not sell their products in the EU or make a special version just for EU. Nothing weird with a country or union dictating what is allowed within their regulatory region, more or less every country does that.

Excited to have USB-C finally. One cable for all my Apple devices finally and one cable in general for the rest. Excited to see how improved transfer speeds are as well, that’s been a hiccup for a while with these phones especially as a media generation tool.

I’m nervous about the new processor. These phones hardly dissipate heat well and now we are going to have a pinhead amount of surface area generating heat. My 14 Pro Max’s get boiling hot just using OneDrive as it is.
