The ergonomics concern me

I'd want a netbook type device to be very easy to type on. Unless I could prop my feet up and rest it against my knees, I'd find it cumbersome, I think....

I'm sure there will be after market stands to deal with this....

My wife's laptop died .... I'd certainly want to give this a whirl before buying another laptop, as she uses it primarily as a netbook type device.

I just shattered my iphone screen, shattering this one would be quite a financial hit, methinks.

So where would your thumbs be while holding it...?

Over the touch screen...?

How do you hold a book?

Not exactly thumbing over the white space, do you? (only a bit, to hold the pages).

A device like the iPad has more rigidity and could lay on your palm, and you hold it by the edges. And your hand will, when reading for a long time, be supported by the armrest, your lap, etc.

Take anything that measures 10" diagonally and try it out.

Of course, with the bezel, it's now much larger and harder to hold.

Nah, but you need that white space all the same, would be annoying if you had to move your thumbs while reading because they covered some of the text.., and with the touch screen, registering those the thumb as a touch, would probably be even more annoying...wouldn't it...?

I don't think I have big enough hand to hold an iPad at the edges, at least not while I'm holding it with one hand to type with the other...

Like I said in the picture gallery, I don't find my touch useful enough to bother carrying around as it is so the iPad is kind of "why?" in my book.

It certainly has it's uses, but they seem like small niche markets. It seems odd that Apple would want so much overlap in products as well. Perhaps this begs the question, what haven't we seen yet?

I would have rather seen an affordable *real* desktop machine than this. Guess I'll keep dreaming.

It would be much smaller without the bezel.

One would really have to check if people with small hands can't hold a device that measures 9,7" diagonally, give a bit for a narrow edge or frame.

I'll definitely be looking into the iPad after it comes out, but if Apple comes out with the iPod Touch with camera, then I'll have a tough decision to make...

MMMMM...no

No Flash, no problem. Front facing Camera.....not there also not an issue. Multi-tasking & USB port(s) to make it the be all and not a big iPhone huge. If windows can slim out and be portable I have every belief OSX can slim out as well. That would have to me made this a must have. Now its an expensive, high speed net surfer and picture frame or really awkward iPod/iPhone.

well, I'll of course check the iPad as soon as they are available. But judging from the pics the becel could be 30% smaller and still allow me to hold it. But as said we'll see when they are in the apple stores.

holding the ipad

just a thought a lot of people have complained about the "how to hold" an iPad. Those collector plates from the Franklin mint come with a stand that may work, may not be tall enough to support the weight though but something similar. It would have been nice to see included or built in some sort of stand. From my view and what i have read students are a target market so a table stand would have made good sense and reading easier.

As for the bezel of the iPad, I have enormous hands.. I mean huge, so it's like Apple tailored it to fit my needs directly.

AKA Of course I'm getting one.

The people who made it actually extensively held it and various prototypes. You on the other hand are just making things up.

Grab a standard size piece of paper as you would likely grab this to hold this with one hand and it is instantly obviously why the bezel is like it is.

This is not rocket science.

But now I'm for ever having to hold it or crane over it to read with my coffee, which may be risky early in the day. The ability to prop it up safely with a stand would be nice. Now i can smoke and have coffee or whatever and not be tied to the device to read it.
