It would, but there's not evidence of such partnerships. As of now, we have 2 games from Capcom and one from Kojima studios.

I didn't say there's evidence but to say "yeah, but what's new here?" about "Partnership with Japanese developers" is as if none of those games would matter even if some came to Mac. That would be a big news to many.

That would require games supporting RT on macOS. We're not sure that any such game is ready for a demo, but we do have rendering apps supporting Metal RT. Blender in particular.

Have Apple ever provided anyone with evidence from their unannounced events? No, but they have always showcased new games so demanding evidence for something that makes sense is a bit illogical.

That is what everyone was saying.
Wasn't it supposed to be two hours? This was the shortest event I've seen so it's obvious they couldn't fit anything else in it but it's very surprising when everyone thought it would be 1-2 hours.

Even less focus on games than my prediction. Was Myst the only game mentioned by name?

I don't think this event tells us much about Apple's focus on AAA gaming. They don't have to discuss games every time they introduce new hardware.
But if they don't capitalize on games for the Vision Pro, that would be quite dumb.

Very little time spent on gaming but surely this update presents an expected but very, very big upgrade for any aspiration of Mac as AAA gaming capable?

If one is expecting newer AAA games to be released for Mac, and observing the requirements for Alan Wake 2, hardware mesh shaders, ray tracing and more capable NPU (for upscaling) are all basic blocks.

They didn't say much of anything about AAA games. You were right about this round. We'll be back. ;)

I do think it'll take devs more time to porting games over using GPT. Perhaps we'll have some new AAA announcements in a Spring event related to the Ultra.

Indeed. I didn't watch it live. I watched a Youtube replay and immediately noticed that it was only 30 something minutes. I already knew they weren't going to focus on AAA games before I played it.

I am not 100% sure if it was posted here, but didn't GPTK not support DXR or Mesh shading translation?

If Apple spends a significant amount of time discussing gaming at an event, it's got to be an event dedicated to gaming, a "generic" event (WWDC) or at least the launch of a device for which gaming has a great importance (AR headset, console...) . So not Macs, and certainly not Mac Pro/Studios.

While they may talk about gaming with the Vision Pro I am not sure it will be a focus. Especially for the price, lol.

But visionOS is a platform, and an immersive one at that. If Apple wants to attract game studios, they have to start early.

Yes, but that still falls back to a marketshare issue, right?

As in do we think that CAPCOM is gonna remake, fix?, Resident Evil Village VR and RE4 VR for visionOS?

Unless Apple provides some sort of... incentive. They see visionOS as the future of computing (and apparently entertainment), we'll see how serious they are about it.

visionOS will come with new gaming paradigms. FPS games are a poor fit for a headset.

Slow growth this month when it comes to Apple Silicon, which will probably change once the M3 series starts shipping this month.

Also the M2 Pro overtakes the M1 Max in popularity.

Nice to see the M1 28% almost got Intel 32%...but who cares if there are no porters that port to native arm64/metal.

Where we're going, we don't need ports. Snapdragon X Elite means the death for x86-64 in the Windows world. In the future all computers and all software will be ARM-compatible.

Lol.

A vapourware product with literally zero marketshare, on a platform with even worse porting issues than the Mac does.

And the problem isn't the CPU, it's the GPU. It's how the M series chips are designed around Metal, not DirectX, and how that just doesn't have the market penetration to be a first class citizen, nor are the porting translation layers sufficient to make seamless experiences.
