If you were to add the series/season/episode info to the filename, Infuse would be able to match that against info found at TheTVDb. This would allow all the episodes to be smartly grouped, with full cover art at all levels, in the Library.

We don't require Embedded Metadata to be on, though Infuse will be able to index your files much faster with it disabled - though you will need it unless you decide to rename the files.

I might suggest renaming one season or series first, let Infuse index it and then see if you like how things lay out in the Library. That way at least you know what your getting before you spend a bunch of time renaming everything.

Another benefit to having your shows properly indexed by Infuse (via file renaming) is you'll be able to take advantage of trakt sync. This means, your watched history and progress will stay in sync between all your devices (or be restored if you upgrade/replace a device).
Thanks for the info and suggestion. I will give file renaming a try and see how it looks.

Maybe I jumped the gun on the Pro subscription a little too soon
27 minutes into my first movie and it throws an error. I couldn't get it to play the movie again until I force quit the app.

I like it! Worth the effort to rename which really is not to bad if I just copy&paste the repetitive title and S/E info in to the file name. The Metadata 101 indicated that I would need to use separators (-, ., _) in the filename. but I accidentally forgot to do that for the episode title and it appears fine in the Library. Where are separators required in the file name? Or are they not required at all? Example would this be ok: Curb Your Enthusiasm S01E01 The Pants Tent

Great!

Separators aren't required, though we should probably make a note of that in the guide.

Enjoy! :)

Check out filebot, it renames all your episode files based on a tvdb lookup of the folder name providing the folder name matches a show.

It's a bit fiddly but saves so much time.

I second the recommendation on Filebot, makes life easier for sure in naming files automatically.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will look into it.

Would it be possible to support subtitles in Closed Caption (SCC) format in Infuse? I have a number of MP4 files that use this format. Text-based subtitles in MP4s work fine, but the CC subtitles simply do not show (even though they are selectable in Infuse). When I play the files e.g. in Quicktime, they work fine.

Happy to take a look!

If you have a chance to send in a sample for us to review it could help quite a bit. https://firecore.com/upload

The files are a bit large, but I'll see if I can cut one of them while keeping the CC track. Anyway, here's a bit more info on the CC track:

ID : 4-CC1
Format : EIA-608
Codec ID : c608
Duration : 1h 5mn
Source duration : 1h 5mn
Bit rate mode : Constant
Stream size : 0.00 Byte (0%)
Source stream size : 63.1 KiB (0%)

The MP4 file was made from a recording I captured from digital TV. I'd imagine this is fairly common.

The open source tool CCExtractor is able to extract the captions and output them in SRT format. If you'd like to support the format, you may want to take a look. They encourage use of the code in other tools.

I'm trying the get watch status tracking to work with foreign movies/TV shows in my collection. Question: Which ID does Infuse use when selecting a movie/episode on trakt.tv? Is it the IMDB ID? Also, does it use the IMDB ID from an NFO file (<id> tag) if one exists?

Why the hell are you still deleting empty folders? When will this be resolved? How many months do I have to complain about this???

Thanks for the info. A sample would probably still be helpful if you're able to send us one. FWIW, there's no file size limit on the upload link I previously sent. ;)

We're using the IMDb/TMDb/TheTVDb IDs. Unfortunately Infuse is not currently able to read these from NFO files. Sorry. :(

This was recently improved, and should no longer be observable in Infuse 5.0 and later. :)

Hm, OK. Now it gets complicated: ;) What happens if I watch a movie/TV episode where the metadata was sourced from an NFO file (especially if the title cannot be found or is misidentified when searching by name on TMDB or TTVDB)? In this case Infuse does not have a correct ID to mark the title watched on trakt.tv.

Infuse will use whatever title was fetched/matched from TMDb/TheTVDb. If no title was matched, then it won't send anything to trakt.

Hm, OK. I just had a complete mess when trying to track watched episodes from the 1970s/80s british show "The Professionals" that I'm currently binging. I have ripped them from my Blu-rays and generated NFOs according to the episode order on the discs (which matches the DVD episode order on TheTVDB). But Infuse apparently uses the aired episode order when matching them on TTVDB, and not only the order is different, but also the number of episodes per season. For example, the DVD order has an episode 2x12, which does not exist in the aired order (since the ep was originally aired as part of the 3rd season). As a result, Infuse sometimes didn't mark the episode as watched, or it marked the wrong episode.

I think it would really be better if the watched status could be synced via iCloud, since matching with some external database will always be imperfect ...

Yeah, but I don't feel like uploading 8GB. ;)

BTW, interestingly enough the inbuilt iOS video player is able to display the closed captions. I loaded one of the files into Goodreader (which can play videos using the AV foundation player) and it worked. I assume some iTunes purchased movies also use the closed caption format?

Thanks for the feedback. We're a bit limited in this area right now, since trakt only looks at the air date order...so even if Infuse had an option to use the DVD order we wouldn't be able to scrobble/sync the correct episodes. However, we may look at options for improving this in the future.

Fair enough. ;)

A WD (Bookworld?) NAS that inFuse 4 (aTV) sees in a snap everytime, when I try to connect with inFuse 5 it just never stops spinning saying "connecting".
A suggestion, if it doesn't connect in 5 minutes, how about a troubleshooting screen instead of me staring at the screen knowing it won't connect?

Do you have both Infuse 4 and Infuse 5 installed side by side? This should be ok, but you will want to ensure you're running the latest version of v4 (4.3.6) as this includes a number of improvements which allow them to co-exist.

If that doesn't help, please drop us a note and we'll be happy to assist. https://firecore.com/contact

Following situation: infuse has indicated my whole video library. All the artwork is there on the ipad and the memory information shows that there are almost 2GB datas contained for the app. So far, so good.

But: if there is just no contact to my home network or no access to my video storage - nothing in infuse is shown, no files, no artworks - despite all the datas are still available on the ipad.
Why have this to be so? Would be great also to see what there is contained in my library or to look for some title also if there is no direct access onto the storage...

And: when I after that have again access on my storage, Infuse starts to indicate the HDD again - as if it was the first time... and it takes again nearly the same time till it is finished... Is that senseful?

....and what I just noticed also: some (not all) former manually done corrections of the artwork are lost... Sorry, but this is getting annoying more and more...
Thought all that information are storaged in the iCloud and are available again and again?

We're planning to add a Library option on iOS in an upcoming version. Like the implementation on Apple TV, this will allow you to browse your content without having to access the location where the videos are stored.

With regard to indexing, what type of device are you streaming from? Are you using UPnP/DLNA by chance? We've seen a few cases where some UPnP devices will reindex their content when files are added/removed, or if the device is restarted. This results in Infuse seeing what it thinks is new content, and that's why it may be rescanning some items. If possible, connecting via SMB, FTP/SFTP, or WebDAV will avoid this issue entirely.

Hi!
I`m using an Iphone 6, Ipad Mini 4 and the ATV4 and let them all sync via iCloud.
The source is an HDD on Mac, but not directly onto that HDD but there is an Serviio Server software installed and I let
Infuse access onto the Serviio Mediathek.
I did a few tests - and sometimes it works, some times very late, sometimes not.
Or I correct for ex. 3 video artworks, 2 of this changings are repeated on a second device, but not the third one...
So no really recognizable rules, but more or less accidental results...

Reg.: the Library option on the ATV4... I`ve not had the impression that there was such a feature...
I`m gone check it...

Btw: sorry for my english... must be horrible for mother tongues ;-)

You might try connecting to your Mac via SMB instead of going through Serviio. This would give Infuse direct access to the files, and would allow you to use the Library option on Apple TV, which won't be available for UPnP devices (which I believe is what Serviio is).

A bit more info on connecting this way can be found here. https://support.firecore.com/hc/en-us/articles/215090977-Streaming-From-Other-Devices
