Are you confident it can be done though? I used your app extensively for around a year but moved away from it when I got a 4k TV. It was no reflection on infuse, it was just that it was held back by the limitations of the hardware. I’ve kept a close eye on the app though as I always intended to move back should Apple sort their hardware out. Until the current beta, I didn’t think it was going to happen but Apple have actually surprised me for once!
Yes, pretty confident we can make it happen. :)

I’m trying to set up a share from my iMac where I have some video files stored.

Infuse is asking me for a username and password. I’m not sure what that might be.

Is it the name of my Mac and the login ? I have activated file sharing on the Mac.

This would be the user/pass for your Mac.

Also, there are a few things to check.
  1. SMB is enabled on your Mac (more info here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204445).
  2. At least one user is selected under 'Windows File Sharing' (as shown under 'Advanced Options' in the link above).
  3. Selected username and password are being entered in Infuse.
Note: iCloud username/password cannot be used. If you're using an iCloud ID to log in to your Mac, you will need to set up a new 'Sharing Only' user as described here: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18695

Ah. Got excited there for a second. The feature I’m after isn’t in this changelog. :(
Coming in 5.6.2. ;)

Watched the UHD of The Shallows last night, and it didn't skip a beat. Looked absolutely glorious with HDR support. Amazing times we are living in, when such a high bit-rate video file, can be streamed across a network, without dropping a frame. I say this a lot here (and they ain't paying me!) but this software is top notch.

I agree.

I think Infuse is one of the best apps ever. My HTPC and Kodi is totally superseded now.

Awesome! So glad to hear you're enjoying it. :)
Any updates on support for different versions of the same movie? Ex 3D and standard?
TMDb has said they are planning to add support for alternate cuts later this year, and once they do we should be able to support these in Infuse.

Totally agree, possibly the best quality app and best supported app I’ve ever used in iOS or tvOS. Switching from kodi to this was like when I made the switch from windows to Mac. Everything is so much easier.

@firecore

On the AppleTV is there any way to get the "all movies" view to show collections like the it does on the iOS versions?

I am so glad I found your app (via these forums). I had been using VLC to browse the drive attached to my AirPort Extreme, and, well... what a mess.

Edit: By the way, Thank you for supporting the iPhone X so quickly :)

Yes, collections are available on tvOS as well (they may not appear right away until Infuse has finished its first scan though).

On a related note, any chance of supporting bonus materials such as featurettes and trailers for movies, e.g. by placing them into an "Extras" folder or using a naming convention a la Kodi (e.g. <movie-name>-trailer.mp4)? I am really struggling with how to organize those. You already have it for TV shows (season 0) and that works fine.

This is not available yet, but it is on our wishlist for a future version.

I think I have spotted a bug in Infuse for ATV. Testing in ATV 4 (64 GB).

Now I can't find my PC, which uses 192.168.8.144 in the list of devices. It says error when trying to visit the favorites from the folders. I deleted, and after trying to reinsert it does not list anymore - only OTHERS.

However Infuse for iOS can see 192.168.8.144, access all folders and their contents. Meaning this is confirmed to be happening only in ATV.

I have also checked the internet, and it's working for the ATV. And VLC can see my Windows folders.

So what's wrong?

P.S. When I was asked to insert the credentials for the PC I only informed my login and password from Windows, and also the defined IP 192.168.8.144. My PC uses this unique address, reserved by the router, and never any other.

We've seen a few cases where Windows will disable File Sharing when installing updates. You might check to ensure it's still enabled, as described here. https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-quickly-share-files-in-windows-10/

If that doesn't help, please drop us a note from your device and we can look further into this.

Got a new synology drive to replace a Wd My cloud and am now using NFS instead of SMB. I'm amazed by how much quicker it is now. Not sure if it's the synology vs. the WD but am really happy with the results thus far. Can't wait to see what happens going forward with the new ATV4K 11.2 version and Infuse.

Great to hear!

NFS can be pretty impressive when it comes to speed. ;)

- It was working before, but only in the last few weeks I installed the Fall Creators Update for Windows 10 64 bit. Not sure if this means anything...

- It isn't working in the last 4.x version for ATV 4, too. And even after I deleted and reinstalled the 4.x and 5.x versions, nothing changed.

- I stopped sharing the folders and shared them again. All my apps for iOS recognized them, not just Infuse. So if Infuse in iOS is recognizing Windows folders and in ATV they are invisible, then this must be a bug in the ATV version.

I already have a ticket opened regarding this issue. No idea what is going on here, but it's not any of Windows 10 settings. They weren't changed, and I also checked that CNET link.

And VLC for ATV can also see my folders...

I keep seeing buzz about Infuse. Interest a bit piqued, looks like it supports more audio and video formats natively.

How do I connect it to my remote Plex server? Does it do direct like the XPlay app on my LG TV?

Spent a few minutes, and google searches, seems like the app doesn't do anything, doesn't connect to media libraries. Not to Plex, even have a Emby testbed, I see no way to connect to it either.

In few minutes you concluded the app doesn't do anything and doesn't connect to media libraries? Spend some few extra minutes with the free app they have...

After my favourite app AirVideoHD hasn’t had an update for a year I’m after a new video player.

AirVideoHD was good because it included a server client that could transcode real-time before streaming or transfer. There were options to make quality better, worse or stream as is. That ability was great because one could adjust how much data to stream/transfer if you were on 3G, bad WiFi or just wanted to transfer a **** loads of videos before a trip. You could also queue videos for conversion while on the go, and quickly transfer the converted smaller versions when on WiFi or back home.

Can one do something similar with infuse? Is there some Mac server client for it?

Infuse doesn't currently support remote Plex streaming, but this is something we have received a number of requests for and are hoping to look into for an upcoming version.

A guide which may help you get up and running with streaming from other devices can be found here.

Infuse does not require a server component. All the playback is handled on the device, and as a result is able to stream from just about any network location (Mac, PC, NAS, Time Capsule, Plex, Kodi, etc...) and many cloud services (Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive).

As you pointed out, the sole caveat with this is some videos may take up more storage space, but with iOS devices coming with more standard storage and the availability of compact storage devices like SanDisk iXpand, it seems like a reasonable trade off.

Hope this helps!

I did, and responded that it had no way to connect to libraries. Firecore rep even responded to confirm. They can't connect to media libraries from plex or emby.
