I know this. It's a Workaround. But I want that my Denon AVR Shows Dolby Digital or DTS. If you change to Auto the AVR shows Multi-Channel-In. Is not what I want. For the Moment it's ok to Switch the Sound Setting, but I want my old Settings back without cracking.

But your old settings are giving you poorer audio quality?

I have a HDD directly on my router. It's a 3 TB My Passport Ultra. All Movies and TV-Shows are in Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS. So I don't have Atmos or DTS-X. The Sound with Settings Passtrough is very good for me. AVR Shows the right Sound-Format. Everything is fine. And I only want this back.

That is what Firecore says:

Sorry for the trouble. This is related to a bug in tvOS 11.3 we reported to Apple when the first beta came out. Unfortunately it seems they decided to release 11.3 with resolving this.

We are currently looking in potential solutions for working around this tvOS bug, and plan to have more news soon.

So let us see what the future brings. Maybe Apple is fix their own Problem.

According to Firecore and the MrMC developers, turning passthrough gives just as good, if not better, sound quality. Maybe one of the devs could give a couple sentences on why that's true?

It’s the 11.3 firmware. MrMC has the same problem. Passthrough limits sound quality anyway (all HD sound formats get downgraded to Dolby digital or dts) so unless your audio device can’t handle multi-stream pcm it’s best left off.
If you configure it correctly, Infuse will only pass through AC3 and DTS, and decode all other formats to PCM.

This is generally true. In most cases it does not matter if Infuse decodes the audio to multichannel PCM (which is a lossless process) or passes it through and lets the AVR/soundbar/TV do the decoding.

But there are a few scenarios where it isn't possible to use PCM. If you route the audio to an AVR through the TV, PCM isn't an option because neither HDMI-ARC nor optical S/PDIF support PCM with more than two channels. In this case it's better to use passthrough, since you save one lossy transcoding step for AC3 and DTS tracks (other formats still have to the transcoded to AC3 for transmission over HDMI-ARC or S/PDIF).

With Infuse set to Auto and the Apple TV set to Best Quality Available, you'll be able to get the same quality (or better in some cases) audio. Infuse is certified for both Dolby and DTS audio, and the process through which audio is decoded from a compressed format (AC3, DTS, TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, etc...) to an uncompressed format (PCM) is consistent whether this takes place on the Apple TV or another certified device like an AV receiver. In fact, decoding compressed audio and outputting PCM is one of the tests that takes place during the certification process.

A bit more info on how this works can be found here.

https://support.firecore.com/hc/en-us/articles/217735707

Note: Not all iOS/tvOS player apps are certified for Dolby/DTS, so the above info only applies to Infuse.

Has Infuse changed the way it handles 24Hz mode on the latest release? I am trying to narrow down the culprit, as I am also on the tvOS beta program. Basically, I have an issue with Apple's 24Hz mode, in that it causes dramatic flicker in low-light scenes on my B6 OLED, so have been sticking to 60Hz - now watching film material in Infuse, I see dramatic frame-skipping, but switching back to 24Hz mode results in perfect playback again. It seems odd that this has changed.

The flicker in low light scenes has always been present on the Apple TV. It’s present using the native player and infuse. I have an E6 and reported the issue shortly after purchasing the Apple TV. If you switch noise reduction to low in your tv settings it drastically reduces the problem without any noticeable loss of picture quality. I know it’s usually best to have all Boise reduction off but in this case the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
As to why you’re only noticing it now, my guess is that it’s just down to the material you’ve been watching. Just to confirm it’s the same issue as I have, I assume that the issue is still present even when you pause the film?

Yes it is there when pausing. It is when it is most noticeable. I presumed at first it was natural telecine flicker, but you wouldn't see that when material is paused. I am convinced too that 24Hz mode is darkening the picture as well, but of course can't really provide scientific proof of that. It could just be that stabilising the image is giving an impression of added brightness.

What is odd though is I could watch films just fine in 60Hz mode previously in Infuse - now I get frame skips. Netflix is working fine in the same mode. I'm presuming they share the same API?

Im sure the dev will be among to clarify but I’m sure Infuse uses its own video player. This is why there was a delay in Infuse implementing frame rate and dynamic range switching whereas apps which used the native player worked automatically

Switching is handled in the same way for apps that use the native player, and apps like Infuse that use their own. The only real difference is Infuse had to 'turn it on' before it was available.

It looks like the B6 doesn't have a great 24p via 60p option, but here is what Rtings suggests which may help. andrewstirling's suggestions may also help if you decide to switch back to 24p.

To play 24p source material without judder, you need to activate 'RealCinema' option under 'Setting'→'Picture options'. Although inconsistent, for 60p and 60i sources set 'Trumotion' to user and set 'De-Judder' and 'De-Blur' to 0 to remove judder. It wasn't consistent enough for us to consider a pass though.

Thanks. I had further investigations last night and it seems limited to 4K UHD 'rips' so it may even just be a buffering issue when first playing titles. As I mentioned, I switched to a WD My Cloud recently, from an older model, and it has been giving me no end of trouble so I think that is the likely culprit.

Some things in life are worth waiting for, but now there's no need to wait any longer.

Today we're very excited to roll out Infuse 5.7 with our all-new, native Plex integration! We're also introducing a new design for Apple TV which we think is pretty fantastic too. More info on both can be seen below.

Infuse + Plex =
Some say it's a match made in heaven, others say it's simply magic – whatever you want to call it, our friends using Plex can now access videos (while home or away) and keep libraries, metadata, artwork, and watched history all in sync. Also, thanks to Infuse's robust codec support, you'll be able to enjoy videos in their full, original quality (including glorious 4K HDR and lossless audio). No transcoding required – simply browse, play, and enjoy!

A new look for tv
Infuse on Apple TV has gotten a shiny new design, which features some slick new options for Favorites and Lists. Favorites have been around for awhile, and Lists are rows of content which appear right on the home screen. These can be used for just about anything, including Recently Added Movies, Unwatched TV Shows, or Action Movies. Whatever you're into, Lists are a great way to place categories you frequently use front and center which makes finding something to watch quicker and easier than ever before! Of course everything is fully customizable, so you have total control over what is displayed. More info on setting up Favorites and Lists can be found here.

And much, much more...
We've also packed in a bunch of under-the-hood changes in recent updates to keep things running smoothly, and a complete list of what's new can be found here.

@firecore Update looks good but.....

Why is there still no button to allow you to refresh your library on the fancy new home screen? It looks great but having to go to Settings > Library to refresh is crazy! How does Infuse refresh at the moment? Is it every so many mins? When you first load the app? If I exit the app and go straight back in will it refresh?

Also an option to remove “Watching” and “Recently Added” from the very top would be nice too.

Off topic a little.....Does anyone know if the free version of Plex allows you to stream remotely (outside your house) or do you need Plex Pass for that?

Infuse will refresh automatically when opening the app, as long as the last refresh happened over an hour ago. You can also trigger a refresh manually by tapping the 'last updated' text at the bottom of the main Library screen.

More info on adding and removing lists can be found here.

The Watching section is part of the Up Next List, and this can be adjusted by using the option found in Settings.

Remote streaming is available in the free version of Plex.

Hope this helps. :)

Just played around a bit with the new version. This is a huge usability improvement! Finally I can put the items I use most front and center on the home screen. :)

One question: is there a way to change the order of favorites and lists on the home screen?

Glad you like it. :)

An option to re-order items is on our todo list.

Hi all,

Was wondering about two options:
Custom favourites? - Instead of adding a Genre Favourite, can i create a custom favourite, say Music Concerts and only have those in the list on the main screen?

And then, although you can add Movie Collections to the main screen, this only shows movies that are part of a collection. Would it be possible to have the All Movies tab groups collections together automatically? (Instead of having all movies as single icons?)

Good eye candy upgrade, but still missing the actual functionality enhancement of Random Videos mode that would truly enhance how I use the app on daily basis. Has been requested multiple times since over a year but no support yet..

That already happens doesn’t it? When I look at all movies in library mode collections are automatically grouped.

If i goto library, it shows Movie collections. But only those that are part of a collection (Like Back to The Future). So you don't see all movies (as some are singles). But if i goto all movies, I get all my movies but, as an example, Back to the Future are displayed as 3 Icons - one for each movie - not grouped together.

I will double check though when back home in case i am looking in the wrong place hehe

Do you have collections enabled in the settings menu? I’ve included a screenshot of my alien movies grouped together in all movies mode.

[doublepost=1524119208][/doublepost]Ok. I checked my settings and it is on. When i goto all movies in the library, you are right. Collections are grouped.
I then realised what i was doing wrong...
I have a lot of Music Concerts and live Standup Comedy. In order to get album art, they are recognised as movies. So when i open all movies in the library, my Music Concerts etc. are also displayed. This was an issue for me. So for my front screen i selected the shares as favourites (not from the library) so I could have tabs for Concerts, Standup etc. So the movies tab i was selecting was from the shares and not the library.

The Library only has options for Movies, TV Shows & Others.
So essentially i need the library to have options for Movies, TV, Live Concerts, Standup Comedy, TV Movies & Music Videos

(Yes i know i am pushing my luck - Especially as I would also want all my Billy Connolly shows grouped together as a collection)

But thanks for the help

Using this new version I’ve removed the previous network share, removed all the metadata etc, so start a new, set it up with my Plex server but it still seemed to download all the metadata and artwork again, I thought the point of setting it up via Plex was that all of that info was read from my actual Plex server.

Also on my iPad it shows you the unwatched tv shows and films, but on the Apple TV it only shows unwatched tv shows.

Likewise the Apple TV shows you the recently added movies but not recently added tv shows.

Something is mixed up I think. Or I am mixed up lol.

If your concerts have a genre specified, you can add that as a list on the home screen. Simply navigate to Library > Movies > By Genre and see what is listed there.

Infuse will cache info on the device for faster access, though you can also browse your Plex library directly by adding a Favorite (this is done through Settings > Shares > Plex Share Name).

With regard to the home screen, Infuse includes a default set of Lists but you can add other lists as well as remove existing lists to suit your taste.

More info on managing lists and favorites can be found here.
