That just makes Apple look incompetent and a poor decision maker on who to partner with.

Let me guess, they are Apple apps, right. Tell me they are Apple apps. Of course they are Apple apps. (hurry, find the one or two that isn't to list here)
Of course they’re Logic and Final Cut with supporting plug-in. Why does it matter?

And faster system bus, which was a bottleneck as G4s got faster. I have an (upgraded) G4 Cube with a 1.8GHz CPU on a 133MHz system bus. Which is a shame.
I have a G4 Cube at 1.7 GHz with 100 MHz system bus, IIRC. It works at 133 MHz?

Anyhow, I just remember that surfing on it was much worse than on other machines with faster memory speeds and system busses.

The G5's were monsters ... and power hungry ones. IBM showed no interest in reigning in their power for use in laptops which was apparently a market IBM wasn't interested in developing hardware for anymore. That left Apple without a G5 for laptops which were quickly becoming their most important segment. After Apple left, IBM dropped the consumer POWER variants and focused on their more profitable server segment because they thought Intel would never touch them there. Meanwhile, Intel's CPUs were about to dramatically increase their power efficiency for use in ultra thin and light devices. Apple already had OS X running on Intel processors in labs as tests. I mean given all that, they had to move. Sound familiar? ;)

Yet, those consumer G5/PPC970 variants went on to shape a console generation. But not surprisingly it was only for one generation.

20% more volume when you add the rubber feet and all the empty space around those rubber feet, all that phantom thickness. Which isn't volume at all. That's the opposite of volume. Should we bust out the calculus to properly measure volume. All you have to do is look at any picture of it. Any picture at all.
The new MacBook Pros also have taller feet compared to the 15" and 16" intel models. So your image and your argument about feet completely betray the point you are trying to make.

Calculated by specs (without feet) provided by manufactures the Asus is 20% larger than the 16" M1 model. It is 3.1 mm thicker (without the feet) and the same dimensions in WxH.

Ugh, I give up. Yes, it's a thick, unweildy monster and I hate it. The Zephyrus M16 sucks and it's just too big for me. It's like a giant brick from the 90s, it's so bad. I miss having the Mac, man.

Good that you are finally seeing reason.

Yeah don't get me wrong, G5's were awesome. But ... never did or would've a thin and light G5 laptop come out.

Ah, you got me. It was 100MHz system bus indeed, as it was based on the Sawtooth logic board (also 100MHz bus). It could be overclocked to 133MHz by resoldering some surface mounted capacitors on the logic board, but few got it to be stable without overvolting it too (which was notoriously difficult).

Because you want to live in Apple Land. I understand that. It's a thing people do. I've done it myself, and I was into it. Apple wants you to use their products, purchase their products, live in their products, dream about their products. They make exclusives for their products, naturally. Apple my life away. Apple knows best. Apple provides for me. The ecosystem guides me. I only choose Apple. I know that frequency.
No I just have used about 8 different DAW’s and Logic is the best one for my needs. And I still also use Premeire Pro as well but Final Cut runs circles around it. It has nothing to do with “well apple makes it so I must jerk off to Apple” and everything to do with which one is actually best for my needs.

I also used a PC professionally for 3 years. I built a killer machine with an 1080 (back when that was king) and sold the machine because I couldn’t live without Logic and Final Cut. I’ve seen the grass on the other side, and Apple’s grass is greener for my workloads.

Nope not at all.
Ah I was slightly wrong. Intel themselves say process parity by 2024 and leadership by 2025. 3rd parties put it more like 2027 for the latter. Though Intel is claiming they will accelerate their development.

Why does the platform keep going bad? 68k was fine until it wasn't. PowerPC was fine until it wasn't. Intel was fine until it wasn't. Apple Silicon was fine until... wait, no.. this can't happen again...
This will probably be the last transition. I believe the issue with 68k was that it wasn't modern enough for the future of computing (just like OS 9). With PPC and Intel, the problem wasn't the architecture so much as the supplier being unable to meet Apple's needs. With Apple fully in control now, they won't have to be kept waiting by unreliable partners. Just like the transition to OS X gave Apple a solid foundation for the Mac (as well as iOS) for 20 years and counting, Apple Silicon should finally give them the foundation they need for the future, so I don't think there will be another transition.

I have the damned thing right in front of my face next to a MacBook Pro. It's awful and I hate it. Waaaay too big. God, I feel so inadequate. Thanks for helping me out with that. The numbers showed me what my face could not.
Yes. Humans aren‘t that good at visualizing dimensions spatially in real life, especially when they are biased thinking “it’s not that much smaller’’. Don’t beat your self up over it.

I love how people are putting down Intel.
Wait until Alder Lake gets released and is MUCH CHEAPER than APPLE
It will EAT APPLE ARM for LUNCH.
Especially the 16 core version which is not out yet.
You know what, I agree with this. Intel will be a cheaper furnace than Apple. Add some water cooling and you can throw out your water heater in your house.

Loud fans on max load (and only on max load, which excludes most use cases including non-ultra quality gaming)? Sure, you got me there. Battery? Dave2D's test showed about 11 hours on the M1 Max. Highest I've seen is 16 hours web/productivity. Let's be fair and round that to the middle: 13.5 hours. Nice, but hardly a revolution. A small treat at most
The M16 gets 6 hours in laptop mag's battery test. the 14" MBP with the smaller battery get 14.5 hours. Keep dreaming.
"When we ran the Laptop Mag Battery Test, which consists of continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, the MacBook Pro lasted an impressive 14 hours and 8 minutes with the ProRes refresh rate enabled.

That time surpasses the 10:28 premium average as well as the XPS 15 (6:58) and Blade 14 (6:02). The Studio came the closest to matching the MacBook Pro with a time of 10:42 at 120Hz and 11:42 at 60Hz."

. A bit better than the normal 9-11hrs of modern performance PC laptops in their iGPU modes.

Nice goalpost shifting there...!!

I'm dreaming the actual 9 hours I just got yesterday. Jarrod'sTech on YoutTube got 8. It's not the highest compared to the competition (which is around 11), I'll admit, but you're very hilariously looking for the worst number you can find. Which is all you can do. Scour websites.

My iGPU is almost as performant as the Radeon 560 in my old MacBook Pro, loving it on battery. Shift away, let's go for a ride, woo.
Man, I can’t wait to see the mental breakdown you have when the next round of Apple Silicon is released.

I'm already in complete shambles. I am a bloody emotional trainwreck, so moved to express my bitterness at the wasted years. I really should convert back to the unwavering faith and see with clarity the folly of my erroneous thinking. It would do wonders for my health if I just believed, you know?
Apple’s lying, Anandtech is lying, everyone praising the MBP is lying, but this single ******* you dug up from the depths of YouTube is telling the truth.

I’d say you just believe already. Is it that important that PC wins?
