I'm on 9.0.2 JB too and am fine w/staying pat.

If the window to 10.1.1 is closed, that's too bad for anyone who needs to upgrade to that to JB.

Just wait till they get the underpinnings working...

The problem is, I think even Saurik has said back when 9.3.3 JB was released that due to the safety protocols that Apple has put into place, semi-untethered is what we're likely stuck with going forward. We may be reaching a point where you have to decide if it's worth dealing with.

(I've been stuck stock for long enough now that I've mostly kinda sorta learned to tolerate it, and opted for 10.2 knowing I was shutting myself out of a JB. But now that CallKit is in iOS 10.x.x and I didn't need iBlacklist, I was down to Folder Enhancer as my primary tweak and a bunch of tiny, non critical stuff--not enough for me to live with the nuisance of going semi-untethered.)
This just adds to some of the rumblings I've been hearing about iOS and iPhone in general. It's unfortunately not helping the decision I make next year when it's time for new phones.

I came to Apple iPhone from Windows Mobile. I'm not tied to Apple, although I own a good amount of the pre-2006 era Macs. Android has no attraction to me. So that leaves, should I decide to leave, going back to Windows phones. I don't have a problem with that at all. I like Windows phones.

All assuming of course that Microsoft doesn't decide between now and then to completely exit the mobile market.

Rumor is MS will release a Win10 phone in 1st half of 2017. even if true, I don't see you switching anyway.

About semi-tether maybe being the norm going forward on jail-breaks...we shall have to see.

I shut the phone off each night...the thought of running re-JB each morning doesnt fill me with the warm-and-fuzzies

It's going to depend on what Apple offers this year.

If the iPhone 8 (or 7s or whatever it will be named) is a brand new design then my wife and I wait until Apple is offering the SIM free version for sale. We'll be buying outright this year. No more lease or EIP.

If the new iPhone is nothing but another iteration of the iPhone 6 series then I'm out. I won't be replacing our 6s/6s+ probably until 2018 at that point but I will be doing research on whatever WinMo phones are out there.

I'm not getting tired of iOS as long as I can tweak it to my liking. But I am getting tired of Apple's hard on for the form factor of the 6 series. And as I have mentioned in other places on this forum features are NOT what attracts me to phones. I.e, Apple can change the internals and what the devices does all they want but if they don't change the look of the device in a reasonable amount of time I walk.

Apple's trying to act like car manufacturers right now and it's not working for me.

If the 2017 4.7" iphone is the same design as the 6/6s/7 and only the bigger display iPhone (5.5"- 5.8" phones need apply) to the redesign....I see a lot of unhappy customers, myself included.

I may have to switch to Android next year...I don't see paying $750 for the same old design again.

Maybe others might, but I am inclined to NO.

I'm in the same boat. I've had every iteration of the iPhone design and this whole "same design for three, maybe four years" thing is pee in my cheerios. The excitement of the upgrade is vanishing.

That being said, I'm not all that heartbroken about it. As iOS gets more and more riddled with little annoying bugs that Apple doesn't seem to care about fixing, Google has really pulled it together and released a solid phone with a beautiful OS. I owned the Pixel for a week and would have kept it if it weren't for the smaller screen. I'm so used to the size of my 7+ that I couldn't convince myself that I was okay with the drop in screen size. If Apple releases a 7s I'll be hunting down the now impossible to find Pixel XL and retiring iOS as my goto.

You've had a nice run, Apple. Even the greatest of kings fall eventually.

I don't think you're thinking of the right company there...
Also, it's inevitable, despite rumors, that there'll be a 7s. It'll still be the 10th iPhone, and I'm sure it'll bring some fancy bells and whistles with it; but it'll still be called 7s, given Apple's iPhone naming convention:

iPhone -> 3G -> 3GS
iPhone 4 (new design) -> 4s
iPhone 5 -> 5s
iPhone 6 (new design) -> 6s
iPhone 7

Edit: Fixed list to make it clearer.

Oh? Of which company should I be thinking when I refer to the designer of Android and the Pixel?

Take a look around. Most rumors point to the next iPhone being a complete redesign for the 10th anniversary. That's why I said IF they release a 7s.

I don't dispute your naming convention as that's what Apple has so far followed.

I am however puzzled about your list. You seem to be indicating design changes on the 'S' models. Pre-iPhone 7 this would not apply as before that Apple has always changed their design with the numbered models and then improved internals with the 'S' model.

Are you saying that Apple will be switching that? Redesign with the 'S' model and internal upgrades with the numbered model?

I suppose that could be the case. The iPhone 7 has already broken with their tick-tock cycle.

Oops; I meant it to reflect that the first on the each line was the new design.

In which case, Apple has already broken the cycle. I wouldn't put it past them to double down on it if that serves their purposes.

Of course no none ever knows exactly what Apple would do but it's been my observation that Apple really only takes into account what Apple wants when making it's decisions. Short of enough consumer pressure of course.

I loved Windows when I was using it, my last Windows phone was a 1520 and I would have no problems using Windows again if I had to. In fairness the only Android phone that would interest me is the Note and twice I tried to order one and both times the were cancelled due to being recalled and then stopped :mad:

1)I would be amazed if they didn't do something radical/new for the next phone.

2)Can you not get a sim free version in the states?

3)My wife was so horrified by the facelift VW Golf that she ordered a new GTi PP last month, some people don't like change. I love the form and colour of my iP7 but I would like less bezels, fast wireless charging, at least 1080p amoled screen and obviously to be able to Jailbreak. Not asking too much am I?:D

I had an HTC Touch Pro. I used software mods (CAB files) to upgrade it to Sense 2.1 w/Weather. That was an amalgamation of HTC Android code that made this 2007-2008 device current during the 3.5 years I had it. Because it was WinMo I could do that.

I had an app that allowed backups down to specific, individual files - and restores of individual files. My ringtones on my iPhone come from this phone.

I had a flipclock, I was able to post photos directly to Facebook and it did the exact same things I do on my iPhone right now.

Jailbreaking for me was the result of being bitterly disappointed to discover that the iPhone had no ability to have weather on the springboard. That and a flipclock was the single biggest reason I jailbroke.

So, going back to that is not an issue for me. There was more freedom to do things in that file system than what the iPhone has now.

And that was without me even getting involved in custom ROMs for the device.

I even fooled a Sprint tech who thought I had installed a custom ROM and wouldn't service my device because of that. :D

As to the SIM free version. Yes, but typically, Apple waits a few weeks afer the initial launch of a new device before it starts selling the SIM free version. I'm patient. I'll wait the four weeks or so after launch to get what I want. At that point we're already waiting anyway so what's another four weeks or so?

You aren't asking too much. :D

Considering that those of you currently on iOS 10.x have been waiting already, the question is then, what's a few more hours, days or weeks?

Totally agree with you.
That's the question everyone is asking themselves. But again, we are closer for a stable jailbreak than before. And even when they release the public jailbreak, I'm going to wait until they patch all the bugs since Apple already stopped signing 10.1.1.

I've been jail breaking for years. Every single jailbreak that has been released in the past they have come with bugs. I'm just being cautious. I've read to many stories where people had to restore back. The key is to be patient.

It is not necessarily the Jailbreak that causes the problems, sometimes it is the inexperienced user that is to blame for the troubles they are having.

Wow, jailbreaking has become such a rare thing to want to do anymore. Sad. I remember the old days (everything pre iPhone 7Plus) I jailbroke every device. Now I don't see much of a need. There are a couple things that would be nice, but nothing really amazing to justify the things you give up... stuff like when a new product comes out (like when the watch came out) or the earpods, etc... things that require certain versions... just kinda sad to see how small the community has become.

I came here to read about experiences, and expected that with the jailbreak having been out for 24 hours now I figured there'd be a flood of posts. Sad to see hardly any.

I'm so glad a real jailbreak is out!

My 7+ was clean restored to 10.1.1 on Monday

Impatient but patiently waiting for a stable refined jailbreak. Such a relief to know the exploits are out there and it's now a matter of fine tuning. Always grateful and I've waited 6 months with iPhone 5 on iOS 6 but man I really need to stop buying stock devices. Painful over time

My se and iPad might stay on 9.3.3 even if I can upgrade to 10.1.1 with Prometheus and saved blobs. Dilemma

So, I've been tasked with jailbreaking one of the devices at work (we write mobile apps for a pay TV company who don't like jailbreaking). The device I have here on 10.1.1 is an iPhone 6 plus, but whenever I run the jailbreak I get the white screen for about 5 seconds and then the phone hard resets, upon restart I am forced to enter the pin and cydia is not installed. Has anyone else experienced this?

BTW, I'm holding off on running this on my own 6+ until I know it is stable

The jailbreak is still in beta. There's lots of bugs; the jailbreak is unstable; cydia substrate hasn't been updated yet to officially support the new iOS 10 jailbreak

Most of us are waiting for a stable release before we jailbreak. Unlike some of the previous jailbreaks, the jailbreakable iOS firmware was still being signed.

This time, it's pretty much a one shot deal (since iOS 10.1.1 is no longer signed). If you mess up, that's it, you're going to have to wait for the next public jailbreak

This is the first time a JB has ever been released that I don't see enough compelling reasons to do it. Not sure if that's because I'm happy with my iPhone 7 Plus the way it is since I've had it for 3 months without a jailbreak, or because lately Apple has released updates which are required for certain products and it's no longer beneficial enough to jailbreak.

Back in the days of iOS 4.0-6.0, I'd have 60-70 tweaks installed. By iOS 8 I think I was down to about 25. On iOS 9, there were only 3 or 4 tweaks I used. The one I liked most was the Speed Intensifier, which sped up annimations and just made the iPhone and iPad feel faster. That and the one (Springtomize I believe?) that allowed putting more icons on the home screen and dock. Aside from those, I didn't find much use in anything else since much of the stuff people used to jailbreak for has been added to iOS.

The company you work for can wait till the jailbreak is stable.

Much like all non-developers and most developers should.

You've been tasked with jailbreaking a device and yet you didn't bother reading the release notes that Cydia isn't compatible with the jailbreak yet? Wow, glad you're not working for my company. LOL

(wonders how many lies this guy's resume has on it to have been hired for that job, lol)
