But how come the beta 7 build isn't the same as the release version then?

it has nothing to do with the build difference...

They just haven't released the final to people with the profile yet. This has happened multiple times prior.

It's never worked like that as of recent. If the build number is the same the final beta IS the release version. Thus there is no update as it is the same build #. How its worked all of iOS10.

This is clearly differently numbered then Beta 7 for a/some reason.

If you have a beta profile it will NOT prompt for a non-beta update.

This is not that big a deal, remove the beta profile restart the phone and install 10.3 final and then reinstall the beta profile. There is no current beta to worry about anyway.

There was a good write-up earlier in the thread regarding the numbering scheme. But the "5" and the "a" indicate not ready for release and a version of the build. Those were simply removed for the release. So no "5" indicates ready for release. the "a" is a beta revision indicator so it was removed as well for a release product. So
14E5277a becomes 14E277. Effectively the same build but perhaps with some logging turned off of a few other beta only things removed.

Man, beta 6 had really smooth animations, especially in the app switcher. Beta 7/ final is back to the same choppy animation when entering app switcher that we've had since 10.0. Wonder why they went back...
Yeah i know wish beta 6 was final they messed up
[doublepost=1490637196][/doublepost]Beta 6 was so smooth final like beta 7 is back to rubbish choppy animation great apple fixes it then messes it up

My simple question-should we expect any new fixes or features in the public 10.3 as compared to beta 7.
Not really other than maybe some beta logging and such could be disabled but more than likely exact same as b7 since same build.

Then what were they doing for the last 10 days?
What normally happens between the last beta and a release--making sure things are OK with the beta and getting ready for the public release.

Seems like it would be better to keep the same discussions in a single place.

Apple cannot release a "beta" with the same build number as public/final. This is why the last beta of an incremental (10.X) update generally can't update to the public version -- they're the same. However, that doesn't mean the public/final version is any different than the final beta.

Does this include the new file system? Apple's release note don't say anything about it and my 7 Plus updated quickly

Yes, it does. Your device will automatically switch to APFS. I'm surprised that it's been omitted from the Release Notes.
Potentially not something they really want to bring up to typical consumers who barely know what a CPU or RAM is, let alone what a file system change would be and how it could affect them--maybe even scaring some of them away from updating because they are unsure.
