Gotta be in it to win it
But why do we always have to compare with the competition, and especially Samsung ? Samsung has never be known for caring about every details like Apple was. I think he is right, Jony Ive has been sleeping these days, he never made so much mistake before.

Though, as I said previously in this thread, I have no issues about iOS design it's simple and really easy to use.
iOS still have the same core as the iOS we love so much since 2007, flat design or not.
It is off topic when talking about IOS to discuss the shape of the iphone, but I suppose that is the kitchen sink approach to internet forums. I think no matter what apple does, there will be contingent of users who like the updates and changes, and a contingent of people who dislike said update and changes. This applies to hardware and software.

I know that but people never had any problems about Apple's design before, most of the complains were about the software. Even Android diehards and Apple haters have always agreed that Apple made beautiful products. I'm not sure this is still the case now.

But it's not only my opinion. I like the iPhone 6 design (though I have mixed feelings about the back) but the general public agree that the iPhone 4 and 5 designs were much more refined and beautiful.

Really? You would never be able to tell how "underwhelming and uninspiring " is based on the latest sales figures.

Hang on a minute. Iphone sales are dropping. Ipad sales are dropping.

Mac sales are growing. OP says OSX design is better.

Who made you some sort of design expert or some UI expert?

I wish this question had been asked about Jony before they a) fired Forstall and b) put him in charge.

We also need to address the elephant when it walks in the room. Go to an art gallery and you will not conclude that the artists or the curators are experts on design, just people who claim only people like themselves know best.

Of course there were always people with complaints all kinds of things Apple. There's really nothing new there.

Hold on a second. How do you know iphone sales are dropping? Can you tell me the latest sales figure from the last quarterly earnings report?

Yep. Jony and Marc have made some atrocious products. See what photographers think if of their Leica as just one example.

The iMacs that prompted Steve to stop everything else were great, and they got even better after that - right up until the current design. Likewise the iPhone peaked at the 4s or 5s, and the Cinema Display started great but just went backward after that.

Change for change's sake is no good.

Unlikely to happen.

I always wished Apple had taken a more evolutionary approach to ios redesigns. I am still not fully convinced by ios7 and up.

Have you read what I said ? There was complaints about Apple design but a very few compared to now.
Well, there were quite a few always, depending on where you look. Of course the simple reality of Apple's popularity and customer base spreading much much more and much much quicker over the recent years plays a role in it all, just as the presence of more and more people online and in various forums where the vast majority weren't there just years before.

Yes, stop being ignorant please we all know the iPhone 6 have been hugely criticized for its horrible antenna lines and camera protude.
Hugely? Just like people were criticizing many kinds of things before--lookup the iPod introduction threads here on MR to see the horror that a lot of people were in when it came to in and how they called it a failure and the end of Apple.

Most iPhone owners have refused to buy the current design and Tim knows it. He may not have a clue about design but he will be prompted by such resistance.
How have the sales and profits for iPhones been doing so well and helping to break records?

I'm not sure you really understand the simple reality of today's apple customer base. I don't know where you get your information but last quarter for example, apple sold 75million iphones. That's quite a feat for a hugely critical device. Everything else is a straw-man argument.

So last quarter, according your reasoning, there were 75 million new customers?

Frankly because the iPhone has copied enough from Android to be sufficiently attractive to new buyers.

No, there will be a mix of new customers, iPhone 6 upgraders and some upgraders from before that.

My information about what ? The criticized iPhone 6 design ? Well just look on MacRumors (for example) at reactions after the iPhone 6 announcement and sorry but sales doesn't mean customer satisfaction.

Here
I voted no, but I don't really like your choices. I don't believe Apple will change the UI design philosophy, but I don't think they will "drag" it out.

I think iOS could use some subtle tweaks similar to those received by El Capitan. iOS would benefit from more dark elements in the UI, and I think that will happen, but not until they have AMOLED screens perhaps. iOS lacks depth and gently gradients which makes it kind of lifeless to me. I like the Reminders and Notes apps. Some gentle shadows and color tweaks could go a long way.

Clearly, that seems like the only or even the main reasonable explanation. (/s)

Clearly, that seems like the only reasonable explanation.

Think about it: the iPhone introduces most of the missing features that Android phones have, including screen size, and BAM! - record sales.

Meanwhile, 60% of existing owners refuse to upgrade to the current hardware design, and now sales are in decline from last year's peak.

Gee I thought this was about a smart phone and not a piece of jewelry.
I'm paying a high price of 700-800 dollars for my phone, I want it to have a beautiful and precise design. Else I would buy a cheap plastic phone for 200 dollars.
