It was asked to the people who notice the delay. Those who don't needn't make snide comments about it.
Those of us that don't have your issue are simply telling you and others that the delay is not universal and therefore does not apply to everyone. Just because you continue to see the issue does not mean that I have your issue. What is snide about that? Besides ever since I have read your posts on these forums (at least dating back you iOS 10 if not before) you have never been satisfied with the performance of the iPhone. You have continued to whine and threaten to go off into the Android world and yet here you still are.

I made the assumption he was on the developer release. Perhaps I read his post incorrectly.

I don't understand this laggy home button thing.

I have been trying to replicate this since GM and it seems fine to me, and I am about as picky as you can get about animation delays.

Double press home button, the switcher immediately appears.

iPhone 7 - (iOS 11.1 Beta 4)

That's because the animation was so fluid and smooth with 10.3.3 that people (me included) can definitely notice it on iOS 11+. I've gotten used to the 0.2/0.3 second delay but it's very very noticeable if you still have a iOS device running 10.3.3

For real though, the exact second my finger pushes down on the home button a second time, the switcher springs out. I tested it repeatedly.

Not trying to troll, but I am curious, has anyone been able to reproduce this on a virgin iOS 11 install? I wonder if there is some setting that seems innocuous enough, but it causes the home button to lag. I know some people said the triple click shortcut would cause this to happen previously.

The delay is when you click once just to quit the current app, not when you double click to go to the switcher.
When you click the home button once, the animation always starts after about a second.
Only the iPhone 7 on iOS 10 did start the animation immediately, that's why owners of other iPhones do not notice it: because the delay has always been there even on iOS 10.

Ahhh, I see now. I thought it was the double click for the switcher. yea, it's a bit laggy.

I am more concerned with them fixing autorotation just failing some times and giving me a status bar along the side of the home screen.

Also Spotlight sometimes won't let me pull down to access it. I have to lock and unlock to get it working.

... I'm just posting here on behalf of iOS 11 users who notice these kinds of bugs because I'm tired of people dismissing legitimate issues just because they don't notice them themselves.

Never in my life have I heard such a first world problem. Why don’t you try getting some tribal leaders to sympathize with you about your home button.

Compare the difference between a single press and how long it takes for the animation to start compared to a double press (I agree appswitcher is instant and is not the cause of the discussion).

I have tried and tried to replicate this home button delay. It is simply not there however many ways I try it. I tried to replicate issue on an iPhone 6 (16 GB) on iOS 11.0.3, an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 11.1 Beta 5 and on a 5th Gen iPad also on iOS 11.1 Beta 5. Once the home button is pressed from within an app, the animation starts immediately and is smooth and fluid. Sorry but I do not see the issue. And don't say I don't possess the sensitivity to see as I am one those very sensitive and observant people that pick up on minute details most don't see.

For those looking for clarification on fixes and changes, read this article linked below:

https://ios.gadgethacks.com/news/io...ns-fixes-audio-some-ipad-models-more-0180698/

"For anyone noticing audio latency or distortion on their second-gen 12.9-in iPad Pro or their 10.5-in iPad Pro, this release should solve your issue. You may have also noticed some inconsistencies with external GPS accessories in previous versions of this beta, since Beta 5 resolves that issue.

In addition, client certificate-based authentication now works for servers using TLS 1.0 and 1.1. If you noticed your silent notifications — like Mail — were not coming through as frequently in iOS 11.1, you should see an improvement in this update. Apple also fixed an issue with loading webmail clients, stating that the action now behaves correctly."

There are some more obscure changes, but I can't list everything I read. Hopefully this helps some people!

Were any bugs fixed in this beta? I see assumptions that it was an emergency update, but for what?
It's possible we might never really know. It might be as simple as some sort of build-related item had to be updated or added or even removed and nothing within iOS itself might have changed. Hard to really know.

That kind of seems like quite a bit for a single late urgent update to update, especially when the build number seems to only have gone up by 1.

Try this:
Open any app you want.
Wait a few seconds.
Click the home button (click it one time only: to go to the homescreen, not twice to go to the switcher).
Does the animation start immediately or does it start after about a second?
The animation is smooth, probably 60fps, but it is just delayed by about one second after you click the "button".
If you haven't used an iPhone 7 on iOS 10, then you probably won't notice it, as you never saw how the animation can start as soon as you click the home button.
Every iDevice has had the delay except the iPhone 7 on iOS 10 but not on iOS 11, that's why only iPhone 7 users who upgraded to iOS 11 have this issue.
