I have tried and tried to replicate this home button delay. It is simply not there however many ways I try it. I tried to replicate issue on an iPhone 6 (16 GB) on iOS 11.0.3, an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 11.1 Beta 5 and on a 5th Gen iPad also on iOS 11.1 Beta 5. Once the home button is pressed from within an app, the animation starts immediately and is smooth and fluid. Sorry but I do not see the issue. And don't say I don't possess the sensitivity to see as I am one those very sensitive and observant people that pick up on minute details most don't see.

All of those configurations should behave the same. You need an iPhone 7 running iOS 10. And the animations are smooth I agree.

Does anyone remember on iOS 10 with a iPhone 7 that when going into the app switcher. The opened app used to jerk down before jumping to the side? This doesn’t happen anymore as they have added a small pause so the app doesn’t immediately shrink upon pressing the home button before going into the app switcher.

This is probably one of the reasons of the delay. Instead of revamping the entire animation going into the app switcher they increased the wait for a second press.

That's exactly what it is and always has been. It's been said a million times over the course of all of the iOS 11 betas.

I'm not attacking you personally. I just wish the constant bickering and complaining about it would move to the proper thread.

Try this:
Open any app you want.
Wait a few seconds.
Click the home button (click it one time only: to go to the homescreen, not twice to go to the switcher).
Does the animation start immediately or does it start after about a second?
The animation is smooth, probably 60fps, but it is just delayed by about one second after you click the "button".
If you haven't used an iPhone 7 on iOS 10, then you probably won't notice it, as you never saw how the animation can start as soon as you click the home button.
Every iDevice has had the delay except the iPhone 7 on iOS 10 but not on iOS 11, that's why only iPhone 7 users who upgraded to iOS 11 have this issue.

iPhones only? I certainly can't see it on my Air 2 (Beta 5).

I’m not complaining. I’m trying to explain why it’s happening so people will hopefully understand and maybe stop believing it’s something that’s going to get fixed in the betas when it’s clearly meant to be that way.

As I’ve said before, I have no issues with it. I’m glad Apple has fixed the animation. That bugged me

It's possible we might never really know. It might be as simple as some sort of build-related item had to be updated or added or even removed and nothing within iOS itself might have changed. Hard to really know.

That kind of seems like quite a bit for a single late urgent update to update, especially when the build number seems to only have gone up by 1.
After posting, I'm actually inclined to agree. Truth be told, I've never really used the source I got the information from; heart in the right place, at least! It seems they might have taken bits and pieces from Beta 4's release notes.

Minor detail about control center behaviour:
1. If airplane mode is enabled: Toggling WiFi and Bluetooth on Control center with turn on and off WiFi and bluetooth
2. Otherwise, toggling WiFi/bluetooth only disconnect the corresponding WiFi/bluetooth, with WiFi/Bluetooth still ON

Noticed this since beta 3, maybe even from earlier build.

I think every single iDevice: iPhones, iPads and iPods all have the home button delay since their launches except the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 10.
Most people who didn't use an iPhone 7 with iOS 10 don't notice it because the iDevices they are using never changed the home button "behavior": the one-second delay has always been there for them.

I still can't see it as a 1-second delay.

Thanks for the tutorial with specific steps. That was exactly what I tried earlier on my three devices. In my case, the animation is immediate once the button is pressed. If it were an one second delay I certainly would notice it as one second is quite long and perceptible. "One thousand" is the common example used out there and my animation is much much faster than that. My eyes tell me it is smooth and fluid. On the other hand it is not a harsh or jarring motion either.

1-second delay? No way.

If that were the case, many more would be complaining about it. Not just the folks sensitive to animation changes.

This is probably the exact reason for the delay.

I am using my iPhone 7 on 10.3.3 and yes there is that little jerk with the animation you are talking about with the app switcher when you have reduce motion off. I use reduce motion so I never see this jerk. Everything just responds instantly. I wish they had an option to turn off the delay under iOS 11. It's the number one of the reason I haven't updated yet. And plus the complaints of ram management and battery drain.

The delay truly does makes the iphone 7 feel less responsive updating it to iOS 11 any way you look at it coming from iOS 10. People who haven't used a 7 on iOS 10 will never know.

Does anyone have issues updating OpenTable, Zomato, and Yelp in iOS 11? Ever time there is an app update, the installation freezes and I have to reboot for the install to complete. It just so happens that these apps also integrate with Apple Maps.

I agree. I worked on a number of military command and control systems where we had very exacting timing requirements for user interactions and a one-second delay is very perceptible and would have been a requirements violation under most circumstances.

I have Yelp and no update problem under 11 (may have updated under Beta 4).

Can anyone suggest really useful battery saving tips? Tired of the same tips in articles all around the Internet, which doesn’t simply seem to work for me.

I was having issues with OpenTable for a while. Seems to have gone away though.

Maybe it's not the same on every iPhone? (I doubt it tbh)
Do you have a chance to play with an iPhone 7(+) running any version of iOS 10? (Probably a friend's phone?)
If so, then try comparing it side by side with your iPhone 7: open any app on both and after a few seconds click the home button at the same time to see which one starts the animation first (or if the animations start at the same time)

Okay, I exaggerated a bit, maybe it's half a second or 0.7 second I'm not sure.

I wasn't able to update PB5 on both my iPhone 7+ and iPad Pro 10.5. The download was completed and it went through the verifying process, then installed and rebooted. However, after rebooting the it still indicates software update to PB5...
I tried to reboot and update again but the problem still exists.

I don't see even that. Our C3I systems had 0.5 sec. max operator feedback requirements and on my Air 2 I'm not seeing .5 or .7 sec. delay.

Same here, unable to install the update. Phone just reboots and again shows an update available for download.
