Technically and technologically, it is software still that drives the home button. A glitch could render even home buttons on older devices as powerless as the new capacitive ones.

So why did the Apple iOS developer's break it to start with? They sure could have prevented a lot of bad press had they done some adequate testing on the older devices before the release.

What's Apple's combined workforce across the world? It'd be dwarfed by the millions of users. They do it better than many others, but they can't possibly figure 100% of things. There will be use cases that they come across, and then they will act on it.

Does Siri/Dictation randomly stop responding to input for anyone else? Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t register any sound. Seems completely random.

That's been a "bug" for a lot of us for a long time. One guy even got rich this summer by posting a "song" on itunes with no sound and naming it "Aaaaaaaaa very good song" so it will be the first thing that comes up and you are not assaulted with "instant music" when you get in the car.

That is both very clever and funny!

I saw 9 hours 15 mins with my iphone 7 when i bought it one year ago. 10 hours may be true for an iphone 7+.

I tried it, and you are right, but it doesn't happen if you do it from first page of home screen, in my rudimentary testing.

It happens always, in every other instance, be it another page on home screen or from any other app. Good find.

Was one of my main gripes with the iPhone 7 on launch day. It was so incredibly buggy on iOS10 that it regulary froze for 30s-1min at a time, registering all button presses at once after it unfroze. Not saying this wouldn‘t happen on a 6s with a hardware home button but it was a first for me. The 6s, when it froze, would ALWAYS unfreeze by using the home button as a kill switch/reset for a frozen app.

I hope the X, with 3gigs of RAM, is future proof for a long time. Could get very frustrating to quit an app using laggy swipe up gestures.

I had this once on either 11.0 series of betas or 11.1 series. Hard reset, closing down all apps, putting in airplane mode for hours, nothing worked. I restored the image all over again in DFU mode and then it worked as expected. Try.

Did you use your iCloud back up? Or do I need to avaoid backups to make it work?

While I use iCloud Backups as a backup, I have never restored from backups. I prefer to always restore the software image and set up the phone as new and download apps individually all over again.

I know, this is lot of work for a lot of people, but in my slightly OCD mind, this is the only way to have a 100% clean iOS install with no conflicts and carried-over remnants whatsoever.

The calculator app shortcut in Control Centre has disappeared for me since 11.1 beta 1 on a 6s, but is there on a 5s. Weird!

I don't know if this is a bug or a purposeful change but I just noticed yesterday that on my air 2 I no longer have the upper left shortcut to go back to a previous app. Is there a new way to reverse to the last app you used?

You can also try a “Reset Network Settings” - that’s worked for me in the past.

Oh I had done every possible thing short of a full restore, but it didn't work. So eventually I had restored fresh.

CarPlay for me is a hot mess on 11.2, GPS wanders again (did this on an 11.1 early beta), volume does not return after notifications, Spotify does not restart after a text message...have to kill on my iPhone and then restart (this may be a Spotify issue)...may be because I am using wireless CarPlay with the Alpine ilx-107. First Beta where is has been really wonky.

Thanks a lot! I’ll get a new phone this December (I have Apple Care Plus and my screen is broken and the battery seems faulty... so I guess I can pay 80 GBP and have a new device... I hope they let me change the whole device instead of just the screen... hope the process is easy). When I restore from that one I’ll start afresh with no back-up, then. Mind you, I’m using a 7 Plus but I’m waiting till they relget ase an X Plus version.

Reset All Settings resolved this for me on this beta.

Is that with first or third-party apps? I can’t seem to replicate it. Maybe I’m just lucky.

Super annoying Airpods bug. I listen to music and when i switch to youtube or a call and back to my music, no music plays even tho it shows playing. Have to reboot my iPhone everytime for them to play music again

same issue but mine happens with my earpods and with bluetooth in the car. if i go into the messaging app or snapchat the music just stops
