I'm not using iOS 11 beta at present, tried beta 1 on iPad just to try out the new features but I'm happy to let the beta run its course and appreciate the info here by those running it.

The old daily driver debate is totally subjective. Variants in set up, etc mean two people on the same device could get entirely different experiences. I personally can't stand dropped frames in iOS and my new 2017 iPad 9.7 runs iOS 10.3.3 like a dream, its super smooth.

From experience it's most likely that iOS 11 won't hit that level of quality until its own 11.2 or 11.3 build.

I installed pB3 yesterday and it's ok. Only thing is really annoying is the text messages. It takes a second to send after you click send. It's like there's a lag

I have it installed on my air2 and it’s still the same. So far the only thing I don’t really like is the way they did the new keyboard. Wish it was like androids with the long press for numbers instead of the downward swipe, but at least they’re trying.

After a week with it I would say no to using it as a daily driver.

On an iPhone 7 Plus

Crashes in the Apple Music App.
Pressing sleep button turns the screen dim and won't recover for a few minutes every couple of times.
Swipe to answer a call and the phone continues to ring for 2 more seconds.
Sluggish UI.

I waited for this release and it feels like a release 1 to me.

can you handle having your devices crash, wipe themselves, and not being able to get service for anything cause Apple will insist on you removing the beta which will likely remove the issue. (even for screen repairs cause the machines they use will brick the phone and you can't get a replacement since it was caused by the beta).

oh and there's also the potential to have your cell service just randomly cut out. tons of restarts, half your 3rd party apps not working and so on.

if the answer is yes, knock yourself out

I would agree with this. If I had not been so stupid as to not make a backup when I moved to the beta software I would be back on 10. I have to stop messing with these beta's on my DD's. I can't get apps open that I use all the time and Photo's is using 50% of my energy everyday obviously running something in the background on my phone which is murdering my battery life.

I ran it for a couple days on my iphone 7 and thought it wasn't too buggy. Little things but nothing major.

I went back to 10 because I just don't like the update. Each person is different but I do not like the visual changes, animations, or new control center. I usually am good with ios changes but this one just bothers me. It feels like a step back.

same here. the new 'cover sheet' is an abomination in my opinion.

There was never a problem with downgrade, just enter DFU mode and reinstall the device with 10.3.3.

Actually yes there was. So much so that Apple actually granted a limited time permission for store staff to help those that were having trouble with downgrading. Mind you it was just giving them the web address to download the 10.3.3 beta but its more than they typically do which is nothing at all.

THIS. I knew I should have made a backup before I upgraded but now I'm kind of stuck. Still wondering if there is any remote chance I can restore my iOS11 backup to 10.3.3, but I am afraid I know what that answer is already.

The other option is, I can always wipe the device and restore a week old backup, but will lose a bunch of text messages in the process. Decisions ... decisions ...

As a last resort, you technically can attempt to restore your iOS 11 iTunes backup to iOS 10.3.3. It just takes editing a string in a .plist file, but you run the risk of corrupting your data.

I tried restoring using the typical Backuptrans SMS restore (which I paid for a while ago) to restore my iOS 11 messages back to 10.3.3 but it wasn't having it. The dates showed up with the year as 2069 or later and I didn't want to take the risk of corrupting anything by restoring those text messages.

Maybe they'll show up by the time iOS 11 GM comes out w/ iCloud sync and I update my iPhone to 11, too.

I just checked and I have a backup from 8 days ago (10.3.3). It might be worth it to just go back, or will they release a new update which resolves some of the major bugs in the beta. it's a dice roll right about now ...

I still cannot get video streaming or airplay to work at all. The tivo app, directlv now app and any safari or youtube app airplay don't work. Seems there is some video streaming issue with 11/b4 that needs to be corrected, so I wouldn't put it on a daily driver yet if those are any things you need.

can you live with an unoptimized, buggy beta on your daily driver?

I personally couldn't do it because every time I typed more than a line in Messages and the box had to expand, everything lagged for a second. it was driving me mad.

I recommend holding out for PB4 if you haven’t tried it yet.

It’s not bad but animations can be choppy on my 7 Plus. Also, the iMessage Store doesn’t seem to be implemented fully yet. Missing some of my favourite stickers!

One thing I hope they change... Automatically convert the new image/video format if you’re sending anywhere other than an iOS 11 or High Sierra OS. Sent a few attachments of images no one can see by mistake.

Only thing I hate is that reachability no longer allows you to invoke the cover sheet right above the moved down apps (or it's broken here, no clue).

Yeah I noticed that too because I use reachability a lot!

I tried pb3 on my iphone 6, though i didn't notice any major bugs, the animations were choppy, launching applications lagged, i decided to downgrade.
Maybe it will be better along the way, but right now ios11 on iphone 6 doesn't worth it.

I wouldn’t say perfect, hate the app switcher bug. Also get random respiring. Can’t wait for B5. Hopefully out today or Tomorrow.
.

Perfect example of why this thread should be closed....why isn't it his right to state that it is "perfect" for him? Maybe it is!!

Gee, I guess the beta does act differently for every single user on here...

I colleague is running it on his iPad Pro 10.5

The platform itself is stable, but he has had various application compatibility problems.

YMMV. I would just wait, as I am. Have run betas in the past, we're pretty close to release now I suspect. Probably next month or so.

Once the final version is released, applications are far more likely to have had their updates for iOS 11 tested and pushed out.

That issue with "continues to ring" is getting to be a real nuisance. People know that I answer the phone, but they can't hear me until my phone stops the annoying ring.

I just realized this last night. I went to use Netflix on my phone, and it kept having errors like crazy (the rest of the devices on the same network are fine).

These threads are important for part-time developers such as myself that do not have a 'test device' and want to know if the software is usable on a daily driver. Often just reading a discussion about the issues people are facing is enough for someone like myself to know whether to take the chance or not.

Back on topic - looks like I'll give this release a skip and wait for the thread asking this question for B5.

I did some daily driving on the iOS 10 public betas with my iPad, and frankly, it was kind of cool to get an early look at new features, but unless you really need to beta test them I'd stay away from them on your main phone or other devices you rely on. I'm waiting for them to go finalize 11.0 this year before upgrading.

I used the PB on my 7 everyday for two weeks without any major issues. There were the typical bugs that I dealt with, but nothing that prevented me using my device.

With that said, I did revert back to iOS 10 since I just wanted to see the test out some of the new features.

I ran PB 3 for a few days, but it kept crashing when using Messages, and wouldn't sync properly to Messages on my Mac, so I had to ditch it.

On the ipad yes. On the iphone it's stable but there's a "bug" that produces a constant blue bar to appear at the top that shows what apps are using location services in the background that when tapped it takes you to one of the apps, randomly.
