Flat design and skeuomorphic design are two completely different things.

That being said, I'd like more 3D to the GUI. Skeuomorphic design, hell no.

Yes please.

And my own requests:
• Smart folder syncing in iCloud Photo Library.
• Better Maps, as in more small details. In my area there are no bicycle trails for instance.
• Better Siri.
• No time wasted on making a bazillion more emojis or other flashy gimmicks no one but 10 year olds will use.

Agreed, those iMessage conversations are a step back to aol and animated gifs, I just .. dont like it.

Big features (that I want..)
- Siri assistant (text based Siri), with major Siri enhancements
- Map data improvement
- Better multitasking with drag and drop (iPad)
- iOS 10-style UI consistencies (making other apps look more like Music/News)

Smaller features
- Customisable control centre
- Dark theme
- Notification grouping

Same stuff I've wanted for the past 3 years.

- Customizable Control Center with 3D Touch toggles.
- Dark Mode
- Bring back the ability to open control Center to today view automatically.
- Get rid of the iCloud app and make a decent file management app with drag and drop iPad support
- Active icons
- Place Icons where ever
- Dictation support on 3erd party keyboards
- Offline Maps

All the above +

- Support word swipe gestures (like Swype, Gboard) in Apple's keyboard
- Mandatory option to clear cache per app or for all apps via Settings app + app itself

iOS 10 was the redesign, next won't be until iOS 12/13.
They come in waves of 3:
iOS 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10 ->.
For this particular update, I disagree. I think the iPhone next year will be a big break from the current design scheme due to its 10th birthday. I suspect iOS may get a similar makeover as well, for the same reason (even though its only 9 years old).

Needs an ability to have multiple users on the ipad. Ipad is a device that is passed around to friends and family when they are over so it would be nice to have the ability to keep some files private.

And no, I do not need new features. Fix those damn bugs before proceeding. And no, not all of them, but those notorious ones.

Can we roll back to iOS 9 in terms of clicks? I feel like iOS 10 made some improvements, but they require more steps to get to everything. It's like a step forward and two steps back. I don't have a 3D touch iPhone, so maybe that would help some of these issues—but not all of them. I also don't see why 3D touch can't just be a long press on non-3D touch devices other than trying to force you to upgrade.

I'm tired of the home screen's inconsistency—sometimes it opens immediately, and sometimes I get asked to press the button (again). All of the lock screen changes made starting to use the phone when you pick it up much more inconvenient but some of it I like so I don't want to revert with that accessibility trick. Then they made the old notification center widgets a little better, but you can't easily get to it from any screen anymore because swiping down now defaults to notifications, and not the widgets, and it doesn't remember your preference (which is why I say everything takes more steps). But if you're on page one or the lock screen, you can swipe right to get right to the widgets—that's an improvement on the lock screen (since it's easier to swipe across than right from the top), and more steps from any other home screen or app. I rarely want to see the notifications first. I usually want to adjust my lights or something. And if you swipe down and want to delete those notifications, 3D touch users can just use that to delete everything, while us peons who didn't need/want a newer phone yet have to click and delete every day individually (something that could easily be accomplished with a long press).

I like the flat look. Most of my motion work is decently flat. But they could kill a lot of the plain white backgrounds. Subtle texture isn't bad. And neither is using a less SUPER BRIGHT plain white background. I think Calendar is the most egregious. It's white, a SLIGHTLY darker grey and bright red—only. Might as well be looking at a flashlight...there's more but I don't have the energy. :)

Coming from a 2 year iPhone hiatus spent with Android... I can't help but wonder, Why Apple hasn't implemented the android style phone dialler, where you start typing the name or number and it shows you the people right away?

Also:
-Dark mode!

The ability to edit and search macOS tags. Its odd that you can view these in iCloud, but you can't do anything with them.

Since the "What do you want to see from Apple in 2017" thread responses seemed to focus mostly on hardware (Mac Pros, Mac Minis, USB iPhones, ...), I thought the new year might be a good occasion to post another iOS 11 wishlist thread (it's been a few months since the last one :) ).

So, as the title says, what do you want to see from iOS in 2017?

My own ever-growing list, most of it copied from the previous thread:

Overall
- Customisable control center
- Ability to change default apps for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, ...
- Widgets on lock screen (so I can see my Runkeeper progress without unlocking, use my iPhone in nightstand mode like the Watch, use my old iPad as a wall-mounted thermostat with HomeKit controls, ...)
- Multiple user accounts on iPad
- Force Touch controls in control center for e.g. Wifi, Bluetooth, ...
- Multi-tasking multiple instances of same app (Safari split screen is a hack, why is this not available for all apps??)
- Password protection at lower levels (specific apps, specific documents, …)
- Missing iPad apps (Weather, Calculator, Voice Memos, Phone, …)
- Some type of file manager or easier way of letting one app access another app’s files
- Ability to control device management / syncing features directly from iOS instead of through iTunes

User Interface
- Dark mode
- Merge long press & 3D touch
- Introduce an "edit" sheet separate from the "share" sheet (it is so confusing to find certain functions hidden under "share")

Siri
- On-device Siri
- Textual input for Siri
- Fully merge Siri with Spotlight - why are there 2 separate search interfaces?

iOS Home Screen
- Rethink the overall combination of Lock Screen, Home Screen, Notification Center, Control Center. Do we still need “apps” to be the main thing on the “home” screen, or can we have a home screen that shows notifications & top apps?
- Ability to add other things than apps to the home screen, e.g. contact persons (especially for older users)
- Smarter method for rearranging icons (e.g. move multiple icons at once, or auto-sort most used to 1st screen)
- Live icons. Apple's own icons (Calendar, Clock, Weather) have been allowed some type of interactivity since iOS 1, why hasn't some API for this been made public?
- Widgets, especially for iPad. The way Android often has the clock and weather right on the home screen seems to work pretty well.

Continuity
- Handoff of ongoing media: transfer an in-progress phone call, transfer a playing movie (not AirPlay, but really transfer), …
- Native support for screen sharing, especially AirPlay from e.g. iPhone to iPad, or using an iPad as secondary display for a Mac like Duet Display
- Use iPhone / iPad as drawing pad for macOS
- A “push” form of continuity (send a user activity to the target device from the source device, rather than the current “pull” form where you start from the target device)
- Allow iPad to access files shared from macOS

Photos
- Sync faces across devices!
- Better user interface for face detection adjustments: A multi-picture "click all pictures of person X" view would work much much faster than the single-picture "is this X? Yes / No" screen that they have now
- Streamlining some interface choices, e.g. why on earth is "not this person" under the "share" sheet? Why are the markup options hidden behind the "more" button? Seriously, has anyone from usability looked at these apps recently?
- Allow albums from the "Albums" tab to also be shared under the "Shared" tab rather than requiring 2 completely seperate albums for private collection vs. sharing
- Tweak the Memories feature to be more targeted at automatic album creation, less at video creation

Contacts
- Manage contact groups on iOS
- System-wide VIP contacts (for Mail, priority Do Not Disturb, …)
- Default app to reach a contact (FaceTime, Phone, WhatsApp, …)

Mail
- Attachments please!!
- Rules for which mails trigger a notification and which not

Music
- Make it more usable for people who only use their local downloaded library, no Apple Music
- Merge the iTunes Store app into the seperate apps for Music, iBooks, Videos, Podcasts, ...
- Some type of light subscription to Apple Music, for those of us who don't listen to Music enough to pony up the full price but still would enjoy the benefit of not having to curate our own library. For example a 2.99$ subscription with only access to a limited library, 6 month delay on recent releases, and only a limited amount of hours per month.

Podcasts
- Support for subscription podcasts
- Better access to older episodes (for podcasts running 10+ seasons you can only access the last 100 episodes or so)
- Better annotation (e.g. automatic transcription, ability to display certain links at certain timestamps within the episode, …)
- Some features for better monetisation (e.g. ads, in-podcast purchase links to apps, …)

Maps
- Offline Maps
- Dynamic re-routing in case of traffic
- Street view

Calendar & Reminders
- Just start paying some active attention to these apps rather than keeping them so basic
- As an aside, I don’t understand what the philosophy is behind having a bare-bones Calendar app and Reminders app (leaving a market for Todoist and Fantastical), but aggressively upgrading Notes every single release.

Facetime
- Group chat
- Screen sharing
- Facetime voicemail
- Sync favourites across devices

Health
- Sync from iPhone to iPad. I know they wouldn't want to sync over iCloud due to privacy concerns, but I would imagine some type of local sync from iPhone to iPad should be possible, just like how the Watch syncs to iPhone
-Allow entry of non-quantitive info, like listing when I sprained my ankle, had a cold, got a flu vaccine, ...
-Multiple profiles - specifically, allow me to enter info for my kids as well. Fevers, childhood diseases, growth, how much milk the baby drank, ...

Settings
- Reshuffle the settings menu.
- Make "Accessibility" a top-level item (so many cool things in there)
- Allow access to settings both from within the app and from within the Settings screen. It's confusing now that many apps require some settings to be handled via "settings" and some via "options" inside the app.
(Specific example of this - why can't I edit the Notifications screen from within the "Notifications" page of the Settings app? Why do I need to scroll down on notifications and press edit?)

Wow! Very good and lengthy list indeed!
My wish is that iOS would run as smoothly as iOS 6 did on i5 and i4S at least on the latest devices.
I mean ios10 it is not horrible right now on the iPhone 7 nor was iOS9 on i6s but it was better in ios 6 times.
I have a more-sensible-than-average eyes for stutters Btw.

Just please fix the music app. Have a switch in settings to switch of Apple Music and "iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" so I only see the music on my phone. I deleted an album from my phone today because there were multiples of some songs and some songs missing, so I though it would be easier to just delete it and re-download. The iTunes store shows the album as purchased but will not let me re-download it. So, I should be able to stream? No, it wants me to subscribe to Apple Music to play an album I have purchased. So tired of the music app, it just keeps getting worse.

Actually, open NFC to developers so access cards and transit cards can be added to wallet. I'd like that.

Fresh redesign

More wallpapers- they take away wallpapers and add a few ugly ones. No dynamic wallpapers have been added since iOS 7

Picture in picture on iPhone

Better phone call interface- if I'm using my phone and I get a call it shouldn't take up the entire screen. I should be able to mute the call and continue using it.

Allow custom app alert tones- mostly every app uses the same tri-tone alert. I want to change it so I can tell what app it is.

This. So much. I have no idea why there isn't an option to make it like an incoming text and just have it pull down from the top of the screen. This full screen alert is beyond annoying and serves no purpose but to completely pull you out of whatever it is you were doing.

A big part of it is likely since these devices are essentially phones first/primarily (despite how people might ultimately use them) the whole taking calls and placing calls part essentially takes precedence.

That said, you can press the lock/sleep button twice when a call comes in to dismiss it and get back to what you were doing (or use the decline button on the screen if the call is coming in while you are using the phone and it's unlocked).

Nice list. It seems well thought out. I could see a lot of those things happening with iOS 11.

One thing for sure we need are more iPad Pro exclusive features. Maybe we would get those in 10.3 since that's around the time the new iPads comes out.
