But surely it's an iOS mail feature as all the 3rd party apps work fine with it?
It's not. The way that most of the 3rd party apps that support it work is that they store your credentials and check for new mail on their (server) side and then notify you as soon as they see new mail making it seem like push basically. But you are essentially allowing them to store and use your credentials.

Oh ok. Shame as I like the native app but need it to at least resemble push

If 11 does have a dark mode will the iphone 7 likely get that feature to? I know people are expecting it for iphone 8 because of an oled screen or whatever but most of the apps I use already have dark modes which look fine on the iphone 7.

Dark mode would be cool in iOS11. I also want customisable control center so that you can change the icons on it.
I never liked the redesign the came with iOS7. Modern iOS6 style would be nice in my opinion.

1. App grouping notifications
2. Change default open with apps

Same here plus Dark Mode and ui enhancements. I still can't understand why Google grouped notifications with Nougat compared to previous Lollipop model which is now Apple's default instead. Notifications with iOS 10 are a mess in my opinion. Also I hope they revamp the phone app and improve iCloud services overall.

These basic iphone apps needs a major overhaul... they are so old

Phone
Contacts
Find my friends

They should merge and unify it with the messages app, switching between the apps all the time is annoying
and plus if apple does that they get a soical network if designed right.

I want the tab for known and unknown calls/messages to work cause just like email its becoming hard to follow..

You can access Contacts from within the Phone app and initiate a Messages conversation from there as well. You can also access Contacts information from Messages app and Find My Friends information too.

Lots of good ideas. I have one main thing I want to see (and I apologize if I missed it skimming through the suggestions above): I want Photos to be handled in the cloud the same way Google does it. No matter how many you have, they don't use your phone's memory (or you can select the total memory they *can* use) and deleting a photo from your phone or other iOS device, does not delete the photo from the cloud or any other iOS device, unless you want it to.

I can't use Photos on iOS because I have tens of thousands of photos (many from my DSLR) and even the thumbnails use too much room on my phone.

This, THIS THIS! I logged back in to this forum just to try to find someone I can upvote who is saying this.

I made the mistake of migrating my entire photo library to Photos, and I have a 64GB phone and a top of the line brand new Macbook Air, and both struggle with Optimize Storage, because it does not aggressively delete fullsize thumbnails.

Consistently, the Photos app lets itself bloat to 10 or 20 gigabytes, even when I am not using it very often. Granted, I have tons of photos, and many of them are raw, but the whole point of cloud storage is for the serious storage to live in the cloud. There is absolutely no need for 20 gigabytes of photo thumbnails to ever be stored on my phone for more than an hour. The end.

Hope some Apple engineers are reading this because Optimize Storage is a great idea but it is extremely flawed.

Logged in to thumbs up this because I don't like the way it works now either. It doesn't seem to remove full quality pics until storage is critical, if at all and that's not what I want on my storage limited iPad.

It would be difficult however (impossible, realistically) to please everyone with any given caching policy because for everyone like you and I who errs on the side of aggressive maintenance there will be another who complains apple deleted their picture and they couldn't access it in a no/low bandwidth scenario. Maybe a "delete downloaded pictures in 1 hour/1 day/1 week" dialog would at least put it back in the user's hands. I'm betting is been discussed and dismissed as un-Appley at some point though.

A decent way to manage files.
Not necessarily a fully accessible file system, but something better than the per-app interface to send a file to another app, which sucks big time.

That alone would be a huge step in making iOS device closer to computers. Nowadays, iPad pros are marketed as computer replacements. It would be about time that their OS lives up to the marketing claim.
Once you explore the ins and outs of it, GoodReader is my go-to file manager; at least when it comes to storing documents, pictures, audio, video, and more to iCloud. It took me a little bit to figure it out but now, I'm a power user at it. I just wish there was a file manager for the phone itself.

My own ever-growing list, most of it copied from the previous thread:

Overall
- Customisable control center
- Ability to change default apps for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, ...
- Widgets on lock screen (so I can see my Runkeeper progress without unlocking, use my iPhone in nightstand mode like the Watch, use my old iPad as a wall-mounted thermostat with HomeKit controls, ...)
- Multiple user accounts on iPad
- Force Touch controls in control center for e.g. Wifi, Bluetooth, ...
- Multi-tasking multiple instances of same app (Safari split screen is a hack, why is this not available for all apps??)
- Password protection at lower levels (specific apps, specific documents, …)
- Missing iPad apps (Weather, Calculator, Voice Memos, Phone, …)
- Some type of file manager or easier way of letting one app access another app’s files
- Ability to control device management / syncing features directly from iOS or iCloud instead of through iTunes

User Interface
- Dark mode
- Merge long press & 3D touch
- Introduce an "edit" sheet separate from the "share" sheet (it is so confusing to find certain functions hidden under "share")

Siri
- On-device Siri
- Textual input for Siri
- Fully merge Siri with Spotlight - why are there 2 separate search interfaces?

Home Screen
- Ability to add other things than apps to the home screen, e.g. contact persons (especially for older users)
- Smarter method for rearranging icons (e.g. move multiple icons at once, or auto-sort most used to 1st screen)
- Live icons. Apple's own icons (Calendar, Clock, Weather) have been allowed some type of interactivity since iOS 1, why hasn't some API for this been made public?
- Widgets, especially for iPad. The way Android often has the clock and weather right on the home screen seems to work pretty well.

Continuity
- Handoff of ongoing media: transfer an in-progress phone call, transfer a playing movie (not AirPlay, but really transfer), …
- Native support for screen sharing, especially AirPlay from e.g. iPhone to iPad, or using an iPad as secondary display for a Mac like Duet Display
- Use iPhone / iPad as drawing pad for macOS
- A “push” form of continuity (send a user activity to the target device from the source device, rather than the current “pull” form where you start from the target device)
- Allow iPad to access files shared from macOS

Photos
- Sync faces across devices!
- Better user interface for face detection adjustments: A multi-picture "click all pictures of person X" view would work much much faster than the single-picture "is this X? Yes / No" screen that they have now
- Streamlining some interface choices, e.g. why on earth is "not this person" under the "share" sheet? Why are the markup options hidden behind the "more" button? Seriously, has anyone from usability looked at these apps recently?
- Allow albums from the "Albums" tab to also be shared under the "Shared" tab rather than requiring 2 completely seperate albums for private collection vs. sharing
- Tweak the Memories feature to be more targeted at automatic album creation, less at video creation

Contacts
- Manage contact groups on iOS
- System-wide VIP contacts (for Mail, priority Do Not Disturb, …)
- Default app to reach a contact (FaceTime, Phone, WhatsApp, …)

Mail
- Rules for which mails trigger a notification and which not

Music
- Make it more usable for people who only use their local downloaded library, no Apple Music
- Merge the iTunes Store app into the seperate apps for Music, iBooks, Videos, Podcasts, ...
- Some type of light subscription to Apple Music, for those of us who don't listen to Music enough to pony up the full price but still would enjoy the benefit of not having to curate our own library. For example a 2.99$ subscription with only access to a limited library, 6 month delay on recent releases, and only a limited amount of hours per month.

Podcasts
- Support for subscription podcasts
- Better access to older episodes (for podcasts running 10+ seasons you can only access the last 100 episodes or so)
- Better annotation (e.g. automatic transcription, ability to display certain links at certain timestamps within the episode, …)
- Some features for better monetisation (e.g. ads, in-podcast purchase links to apps, …)

Maps
- Offline Maps
- Dynamic re-routing in case of traffic
- Street view

Calendar & Reminders
- Just start paying some active attention to these apps rather than keeping them so basic
- As an aside, I don’t understand what the philosophy is behind having a bare-bones Calendar app and Reminders app (leaving a market for Todoist and Fantastical), but aggressively upgrading Notes every single release.

Facetime
- Group chat
- Screen sharing
- Facetime voicemail
- Sync favourites across devices

Health
- Sync from iPhone to iPad. I know they wouldn't want to sync over iCloud due to privacy concerns, but I would imagine some type of local sync from iPhone to iPad should be possible, just like how the Watch syncs to iPhone
-Allow entry of non-quantitive info, like listing when I sprained my ankle, had a cold, got a flu vaccine, ...
-Multiple profiles - specifically, allow me to enter info for my kids as well. Fevers, childhood diseases, growth, how much milk the baby drank, ...

Settings
- Re-organize the settings menu, it's been growing organically and doesn't always make sense anymore
- For example, make "Accessibility" a top-level item (so many cool things in there)
- Allow access to settings both from within the app and from within the Settings screen. It's confusing now that many apps require some settings to be handled via "settings" and some via "options" inside the app.
(Specific example of this - why can't I edit the Notifications screen from within the "Notifications" page of the Settings app? Why do I need to scroll down on notifications and press edit?)

YES YES YES TO EVERYTHING YOU SAID!!! Got me over here like, "Yup...yup...oh God yes...hell yeah..."!

No No No No... if we get just 20% of all the things you ask for, we'll still have pitifull performance throughout 2018 because they once again need to focus on bugs. What we need is a MAJOR intervention:

IOS 11 should introduce NO changes at all except for one thing: Performance, Performance, Performance!!!

IOS is so laggy and slow on everything but the latest device - and even there it's still hit'n miss.

There is one other need with IOS11, but that can be done on the cloud service that does "voice to command translation":
We need a much much better Siri and specifically a siri that can handle multiple languages when referencing contextual items, objects and titles. Siri is great but if you are from a non english speaking country things are pitifull because all references to english named objects, titles and such does not work properly.

bring back slide to unlock with iOS 11 please
That will never happen. Once they remove something and replace it with something new, it ain't coming back. Sorry, but it's not.

I really don't see how iOS is laggy/slow. It's fast AF on the iPhone 7 Plus & iPhone 7 (well, when I used it at the Apple Store anyway), and it's plenty fast on the 6s too according to some of my friends. Also, with 10.3 switching to APFS that'll improve the performance even further.

Well, like i wrote, it's fast on the latest device, but then it really drop like a rock on deep water. Yes, it's decent on a 6s and somewhat on the 6s+.
But have you tried a 6+? It's so laggy that its bordering useless. I mean... a 5s is substantially faster and calling that fast would be quite a statement.

The "1Gb memory is enough so lets cheap out on our customers" strategy apple followed with the iphones 6 is really killing that phone now due to how bloated IOS has become. So we need a much slimmer and performance optimized IOS next time - otherwise it will be all the 2Gb memory phones that will start crawling along...
[doublepost=1488752836][/doublepost]And regarding APFS in 10.3... well you might be right on a 2Gb memory phone (6s series) but i'll bet you a case of beer it's going to kill the 1Gb phones even more due to memory pressure.
I would't dare upgrading my 6+ to 10.3. If you only knew how may times I have regretted going to 10 in the first place... it's agonizingly slow.

I would love to see better battery life, iOS completely rewritten to run more efficiently and would love to see the Facebook and Twitter status shortcut that iOS 6 had. I LOVED that feature.
