So expectations - which started out as what do you expect in IOS 11 has become wishlist since they closed and won't allow posting of items on it. Interesting that interpretation of English

Contact pictures synced with iCloud so if you message someone with iMessage, you can see their contact pic, not the pic you assigned for them (like whatsapp)

Have 'favourites' for messages at the top.. either ones you can set or ones that are picked based on how many times you contact said individuals/groups.

I'd like my iPhone change some settings depending where I am and which network I'm connected

Usually I got Siri disabled in lock screen so I need unlock to use Siri

- Smart phone should now that when I'm at home, in my car or in my work I would like disable some security restriction like that. At home and at work I am connected to a trust Wifi network and GPS do the rest. In the car I am moving fast and connect to a trusted handsfree

Android does that. Trusted geo-location and blue tooth. It's really handy.

That will literally never happen. It was an awful design language and most likely will not be making a comeback. Especially not after 4 and a half years of having the iOS 7 and later design language.
That's your opinion. My opinion and the opinion of many others here is that flat is fugly. Especially Jony's cartoonish childrens crayon box "flat." We want skeumorphism back. There is also reason to believe that they went "flat" to limit the need for processing power and use lower powered (read: cheaper) tech to increase profit margins improve performance.

It's all much simpler than that--things were getting stale after some years and to appeal to more of the general consumer base some fresher and "cooler" looks were needed essentially. It's not about catering to some tiny subgroup no matter how much of a point they might have, it's about appealing more to the general consumers, which are different than various tiny subgroups.

Uh, no. You are straight up telling lies now. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have the fastest processor ever created for an iOS device and the highest amount of RAM (in the iPhone 7 Plus anyways, at 3GB). And are you seriously saying that after 4.5 years of the current design language being around? Fam, please. Also, who's "we"? You're literally the only one (and maybe one other person) I've seen so far who wants skeuomorphism back. Anyways it's not coming back no matter how much "you" want it.

There are numerous threads here about how ugly iOS is, so he's definitely not alone.

I don't disagree that things were getting stale. You are very much correct in that regard. I just don't think that unleashing Jony Ive's box of crayons and obsession with "flatness" was the right approach. And based on some of the other comments on this thread and at large, I'm not alone in that sentiment.

I'd be careful about throwing around the word "lies." I was merely going off of previous iterations of iPhone's vs Androids, particularly the time period when iOS 7 first introduced Jony Ive's crayon box inspired "flat" designs. With the iPhone 7's A10 processor, Apple only recently upped their game on processor power. In the past, Android blew iPhone's out of the water in raw processing power and Apple compensated by building performance into their software vis-à-vis the graphically less intensive flat design. This is just one example and is by no means the only example.

I'm not saying all of the "tricks" they used to improve performance were bad, some of them were quite good. Nor am I saying Android is better because it isn't. The large number of different devices on the Android side requires the raw processing power necessary to overcome the software bloat from not having software tailored to one specific device. I'm just saying that flatness was a poor choice to save GPU processing power, which Apple has been terrible at until recently (and still is on the Mac side).

No, I am not "seriously" saying that AFTER 4.5 years. I've BEEN saying that for the last 4.5 years, I've just only recently been more vocal about it online. I've never liked Jony's stupid flat design and while I won't go so far as to be arrogant in saying "most" don't like it, I will say that there is a large number of people both online and off (not strictly limited to this thread) who are not happy with the current design. This is based from comments on macrumors, other websites and people I know in person going back YEARS. If you bothered to look at the criticism around iOS 7, then you might recognize that. It's just that most people have gotten used to it or have really just been tolerant of it, like me. But my tolerance is reaching a breaking point.

And it's not by any means limited to the stupid UI design either. Look at all the criticism Apple has gotten recently from Pros and their virtually ignoring the Mac side! Pro's are the early adopters. They go around telling everyone what they like and everyone else follows. If you start loosing your Pro's, then it's only a matter of time before you start loosing everyone else.

Lastly, stop using the word "literally" because you clearly don't know how it works.

You aren't the only one of course given dozens upon dozens of long threads hashing and rehashing things related to the design change that have been around in these forums (and other places) since the iOS 7 days, in particular during the early iOS 7 days. That said, most have essentially moved on years later at this point.

Use nicknames in Phone Favorites when enabled. Option to scale size of photo/nickname row up for easier selection when driving. Maybe icon-only view option?

All I want is the ability to sort photos on the device and the ability to remove app names (my biggest pet peeve with iOS is how cluttered and messy the app names make the home screen look).

If they implemented those in stock iOS I would forgo my jailbreak.

I'd also love the ability to put whatever toggles I want in control centre.

Moved on? Or given up? I suspect some combination of the two. But I've never been much of a giving up sort of person! :)

Probably one or the other given that it's years later already basically. It ultimately didn't really do much to really argue about it back when the change was made, aside from essentially just people mostly (and understandably) venting, and certainly years down the line it barely even does that much, even from just the venting perspective.

Well a few things for me.

  1. Selective restore so that I can choose to only restore photos and messages for example
  2. Contact photos, I mean seriously? Why can't this be baked in as an option?
  3. Optimised battery management.
  4. Better app switcher with customisation. I would like to see an option for four squares per page with a close button.
  5. Close all button for apps, (YES, I KNOW IT DOESN'T AFFECT BATTERY). But I only like a few at a time as quicker for switching.
  6. Totally overhauled Siri with natural voice search like Google. Siri is pretty much useless for me for anything other than basic things.
  7. Better browser window switcher for Safari. Again like above with four windows per page. Its a nightmare when you have 1001 windows in your history. Also close all button.

Does flat design really save processing power?
I mean isn't it the same to load ,say a 120x120 pixels flat icon or to load a skeumorphic icon of the same size?

You have this. Long press on done and you'll get pop-up to close all tabs.
