No mess here works just fine. Don’t like it move to something else. Plus post lost all credibility with the mention of Steve Jobs.
Back in September when the OP posted, 11 was a mess. 11.3 today is fine for me.

Steve Jobs would have given iOS 11's design an 'F': http://mashable.com/2017/09/19/ios-11-design-flaws/?utm_cid=mash-com-Tw-main-link#K4GBgAtAbSqC

It’s been a mess since iOS 7. iOS 8 was also a mess until 8.3 and even then it still had issues. Same story with iOS 9, same with iOS 10... it is so consistently bad that I ended up going to the dark side (Android). I still use my 6S which I have just updated to 11.3. It is better than previous versions of 11, although that isn’t really saying much.
Every single version since iOS 7 has had frame rate issues, it no longer runs at a solid consistent 60fps like it did with iOS 6. It’s a shame most people in here have forgotten what that feels like, which is probably why they still think iOS is “smooth”. When you have an iPhone 5 on iOS 6 like I still do, and compare it today’s iOS running on the latest iPhones even though the processors and RAM etc have vastly improved, it is still smoother. What does that tell me? It tells me that the software has took a nosedive in quality since Forstall was fired. Having a hardware guy like Jony take over software has proven to be a disaster. I understand Craig is also behind iOS these days, which makes it even worse since he’s a software guy. He and his team just aren’t as good at their job has Forstall and his team were.
You’re missing the point, iOS 10 was great and 11 is a step backwards in many aspects...
Sure, but iOS 12 is going to be devoted to fixing the bugs iOS 11 created. Reported by multiple sources.Since my opinion is different from yours, I conclude that it is indeed a matter of opinions.
“You will never forgive Apple”, what does even mean? Other than specter and meltdown vulnerabilities iOS 10 is great.Home button delay is still there. No issues with iPhone X but I will never forgive Apple for ruining a great phone. My iPad Pro is still on iOS 10 and it stays there forever.
It was a great phone they ruined with their shoddy updates. It went from 1.5 days battery life and a perfect home button to barely lasting a day and a delay which drives me up the wall every time I try to use it. Thanks to their incompetence I am not buying any of their budget products ever again until they give them the respect they deserve.“You will never forgive Apple”, what does even mean?
Spectre and meltdown is only a consideration if I can use the device properly. If I upgrade to iOS 11, reduced battery life and stuttering on a 120hz screen is a virtual certainty. It's a trade off between security and performance/battery life. I happily chose the latter. I don't want to replace the battery earlier than expected.Other than specter and meltdown vulnerabilities iOS 10 is great.
Ok, so you are only going to buy flagship products from here on out. My comment on the home button on my i7, is was working fine on iOS 11 and was working fine on iOS 10.It was a great phone they ruined with their shoddy updates. iOS 11 is so bad, even Apple acknowledged it by turning iOS 12 into a performance update with no new features. We need a complete OS overhaul to fix this mess.

That's not the explanation for it. I just tried double clicking the home button on iOS 10 and I don't see any jump animation prior to the app switcher. I compared both iOS 10 and 11 here. It's just an excuse because the button is designed to wait a split second for the second press to app switcher even on iOS 10. iOS 11 just takes this too far with a 1 second delay.
My iPhone 7 has no such 1 second delay. You may have defective hardware. That's not the explanation for it. My 5s on 11.3 is clearly slower than my 6s and that’s where the age shows, but with 11.3 it’s pretty zippy in its own right. Since it’s my backup phone it’s been on the betas do I have a view of the quality of these releases. My relatively aged 5S is on 11.3, sure it's a wee bit slow and I've turned off much of the eye candy as I don't like it, but it's never let me down, will play video, make calls, do email, Whatsapp and browse etc without issues. I don't have the home button issue people describe. Battery lasts 1.5 days, at least.
I'm not just another fanboy however, I do have plenty to say to Apple about their progressive abandonment of pro-users for starters.
I never install any OS/IOS updates until they are thoroughly "cooked", a habit of mine since the dawn of processor based technology. I occasionally wipe and re-install too, strangely I've had very few issues in umpteen decades of heavy pro use.
Except it's not even close to a 1 second delay, as even you yourself have mentioned in the past. And your perception of it seems to be different than that of others. That's not the explanation for it. Technically it's probably around 0.5-0.6 seconds but it feels like 1 second especially when I compare it with the iPad on iOS 10. Each and every home button iphone I have handled has this delay. My iPhone 7 has no such 1 second delay. You may have defective hardware.

You should use an iPhone X or an iPhone running iOS 10 for a day or two and then try using the iOS 11 home button. There's a huge difference. I use an iPhone X, iPad Pro simultaneously and whenever I use the iPhone 7 Plus, the difference is instantly noticeable.Except it's not even close to a 1 second delay, as even you yourself have mentioned in the past. On my i7 if there is a delay it’s not noticeable. In fact I never heard any discussion about a delay except on these forums and Youtube videos that don’t show anything except human error.Technically it's probably around 0.5-0.6 seconds but it feels like 1 second especially when I compare it with the iPad on iOS 10. Well mine has never been a mess then or now. I guess I'm just lucky
A simple Google search reveals plenty of people have this problem and those who did have dealt with it by either getting the iPhone X or simply grin and bear it. The Youtube video in question is 100% accurate as regards showing the effects as if you see his other videos where he compares 2 iOS 11 versions, this effect is never observed. On my i7 if there is a delay it’s not noticeable. In fact I never heard any discussion about a delay except on these forums and Youtube videos that don’t show anything except human error.
