Oh I'm not remotely expecting 100% bug free. Those espousing switching to Android because iOS has it's fair share of bugs this year is in for a surprise if they think that's all smooth sailing. You‘ll never find a 100% bug free software. Though, Apple’s software quality has never been that worse for years.
It is only a question of how many new features Apple plans to add to iOS 12. I personally wish Apple changes the focus on a bug fixing release than adding fancy new features. On the other hand: Apple currently thinks, you cannot sell products without new features.
The bugs this year are just quite critical at times. Take a simple one. The TV app can't play iTunes downloaded movies offline in airplane mode without a connection for the initial token exchange anymore because of a bug present for one year. Lo and behold, me bashing my head on a 6 hour plane ride after getting ready to finally see Dunkirk. An 11 page Apple support discussion has no resolution.
Or the UI bugs, the iMessage out of order bugs, iOS message quick reply that shows duplicate messages constantly since iOS 10...these are critical iPhone functions that ruin the delight. Death by small cuts, not monumental bugs.
Hell, if they can continue refining the interface and smooth over bugs, that's all I need. Unfortunately, the average consumer will upgrade for big features. And they have to cater to that too.

Agreed, I appreciate the pace of bug fix turnaround for more critical ones. Wasn't always that waySame, IOS 12 needs to have some serious enhancements. With Ive saying X will see multiple changes, one would assume IOS 12 is what he's referring to in terms of the future of X. And that is why, while I'm not using X as my daily driver, I'm still excited to see what IOS 12 can do to make proper changes to enhance the user experience. Same interface is getting super boring these days, they need to make some sweeping changes and take software seriously. And I'd say with some of the fixes they are pumping out, they are finally getting back on track. Though some might look at it the other way.
